Delving a bit deeper into Mark Anthony Conditt's background -

23 years old at the time of his death, he had previously described himself in a Blog as a Conservative. He argued against same-sex marriage, legal abortion and sex offender registries. He argued for the Death Penalty. He grew up in Pfugerville, a city outside Austin, home-schooled by his mother and the oldest of four children. A neighbor of more than ten years described the family as tight-knit Christians. His parents maintained a Business Consulting business.

Described as nerdy, a prolific reader, very intense, frequently frustrated, and interested in computers. He attended Austin Community College for two years, 2010-12, without obtaining a degree.

He currently lived several miles from his parents in a rental home with two roommates. LE interviewed the roommates. They remain free.

We await disclosure of the contents of a 30 minute confession video he made with his phone;

I think he looks pretty buff in the photo/video taken in the FED-EX store. He looks really nerdy in all of the other photos that I have viewed.

Still. This was a series of terror acts. They need to find out what his motive was and who knew. I think I also read where he had roommates?

it was a series of murders and attempted murders. Until we find out motive, (and then if the motive was something that would fit the definition of terrorism) it can't really be called terrorism.

Leaving explosive packages at random locations isn't terrorism?

Leaving explosive packages at random locations isn't terrorism?

Only if you are leaving explosive packages at those locations to create terror among civilians in order to achieve a financial, political, religious or ideological aim (from the definition of the word).

if you're simply leaving them there because you are a murderer trying to murder people, you're not a terrorist, you're a murderer (or serial killer). just as a serial killer who, say, stabs people in their bedrooms, causes terror among the populace but isn't usually a terrorist.

Guess you would had to have been in Austin for the last 3 weeks. People were literally terrified.

That still doesn't make it terrorism. I'm terrified of snakes - if someone leaves a snake in my bathtub, they're a d!ck, not a terrorist. Sorry, but words have actual meanings.

Up until we have a least a mediocre idea of what this guys actual intentions were, I'll leave it as random domestic terrorism.

Section 802 of the Patriot Act, passed after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, defines domestic terrorism as an act "dangerous to human life" that violates state or federal criminal laws, if it intended to do any of the following : intimidate or coerce a civilian population; seek to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or attempt to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping.

Random serial bombings, yes. Not terrorism.

You just proved his point. Terrorism needs to have a political motive.

The police have now determined it to be terrorism but, the bomber's recordings have not been released.

Another wait and see.

You don't need a poltical motive to want to intimidate a population. You just want to make people scared.

That's true. However terrorism by legal definition requires a political/religious motivation.
