Actress Cynthia Nixon declares she is running for NY governor

Well she is a big Bernie supporter and has been very critical of mainstream dems like Cuomo so I suppose its possible this will cause a chasm. For example, if she comes close but loses the primary will her followers then vote for Cuomo after she bad mouthed him? Its like Sanders v Hillary all over again.

She graduated high school. She is a long time local education activist parent. She's not related to Richard Nixon. She's prettier than Cuomo. In a nod to local commuters she wants to "fix our broken subways." The last makes her a winning candidate, and the others don't hurt.

Seriously, she's very bright, and she does care about the people not the politics of nepotism, brinksmanship, and corruption. I'd vote for her.

So she has the same qualifications as probably 2-3 million other people, but with name recognition...
Has she ever led a large organization?
Has she ever been responsible for other people's money?
Does she have any executive experience?
Does she have an education in finance?
Does she have an education in Law?

Jay Nixon was governor in Missouri up until recently, didnt seem to affect him.

I don't know what his record was a governor of Ca but even if he did a decent job of administering the state, hiring someone to run something large and complex who has no running any anything is a bad idea.

Agree but I think the voters are still in a funk and are still trending towards populism on both sides. There is a massive mistrust out there and these celebrities are making the most of it. People on the far right and the far left railing on either the deep state or the "establishment" are still popular in some areas. We have some pain to go yet.

Well the name certainly doesn't help her. Cuomo has the major backing of the NYC power players. I don't see her making much headway, unless, she can get some momentum. Attack him on infrastructure and scandals and we'll see. She has a lot of ground to cover tho.

It will be an uphill battle no doubt, but Cuomos recent support for charter schools and Wall Street is getting him big thumbs down from many dems. So we will see how she does. If she can get backing from DailyKos and the Young Turks it might help her.

She needs to follow Trump's media model. He went on to all the conservative talk shows, and regular cable channels in 2016. Hours and hours of free coverage of him and his ideas. If she even does a portion of that (NPR/other radio stations) she can give Cuomo a run for his $$$. The ultimate would be going on CNN and getting an interview w/Chris Cuomo. That would be gold.

Considering the way NYC is depopulating because folks cant afford to live there anymore, combined with the way the city has long spent money like drunken sailors, maybe the citizens should consider getting someone serious.

Before he retired and became a TV talking head Dershowitz was an A-list criminal defense lawyer and Constitutional law scholar - one of the youngest full professors in Harvard's history IIRC. He's also an all-in kind of supporter of Israel and is liable to label anyone who says anything negative about Israel as anti Semitic.

I thought he was mostly famous for getting someone off a murder they clearly committed a long time ago.

You might be thinking of Claus Von Bulow who was accused of attempting to murder his wife (she later died anyway). He got the conviction thrown out on appeal and Von Bulow was acquitted when he was retried.
