[h=1]Kushner Cos. filed false documents with NYC[/h]
NEW YORK (AP) — When the Kushner Cos. bought three apartment buildings in a gentrifying neighborhood of Queens in 2015, most of the tenants were protected by special rules that prevent developers from pushing them out, raising rents and turning a tidy profit.

But that’s exactly what the company then run by Jared Kushner did, and with remarkable speed. Two years later, it sold all three buildings for $60 million, nearly 50 percent more than it paid.

Now a clue has emerged as to how President Donald Trump’s son-in-law’s firm was able to move so fast: The Kushner Cos. routinely filed ...

At some point explanations that are the equivalent of "The dog did it." start wearing a bit thin.

The whole family thinks they are above the law and have screwed a lot of people to get where they are. No doubt about it.

Hell the Trump fortune was started with a brothel! Literally making money off of people getting screwed!

So what, it was a LEGAL brothel.

Grandpa Trump got "shut down" (more later) because of two factors:

1. the people wanted a general cleanup of the town; and
2. his saloon/brothel was cheating its patrons more than was considered acceptable.

In fact, Grandpa Trump didn't actually get "shut down" he saw the way that the wind was blowing and sold out before the "civic cleanup movement" got up a full head of steam. It was the people who Grandpa Trump sold his businesses to that got "closed down".

That was when Grandpa Trump started the family tradition of "Take the money and skip before the suckers find out how badly they have been taken.".

PS - As I understand it Ivanka Trump has decided that it's time to take advantage of New York's "equitable distribution" laws and get her hands on as much of the assets as are available before those assets vanish to pay Mr. Kushner's fines and penalties. Grandpa Trump would be proud of her.

If this is correct Kushner might be looking at jail time and rightfully so. Big "if" however. I am not convinced that the NYT is actually not a hack rag. They get it right sometimes and not so right other times. This sounds like the type of stuff we see in TV shows and movies about slum lords. Not a real good way to run a business. He could lose everything after the smoke clears.

The thing to keep in mind is that those would be State (not Federal) offences and Mr. Trump doesn't have the power to grant pardons for State offences.

This turn of events does two things:

  1. increases Mr. Mueller's "bargaining power"; and
  2. increases the odds that Mr. Trump is going to fire Mr. Mueller.

What the end result is going to be is "interesting".

I don't care about who has the power to do what. I think he should have his balls removed if he is guilty. This doesn't have anything to do with Mueller. Really?

Funny story. I was working on the roof of a shed that I just built. I noticed a white car pull up our road and park in front of the garage. Two Russians got out of the car. One said, "Nice shed, for an American." I accused him of using mind control to make me vote for Trump. He said, "**** you." They are coming over next weekend for dinner. We are going to have smoked NY strips and cigars on the deck with lots of whiskey. That story has about as much to do with the OP as Mueller has to do with this issue but it's a story about Russians. I know how much some folks like to talk about Russians so I thought I would just mention it.

Yeah, this isn't a case of a few mistakes. This is business as usual for them.

From the article:
"In all, Housing Rights Initiative found the Kushner Cos. filed at least 80 false applications for construction permits in 34 buildings across New York City from 2013 to 2016, all of them indicating there were no rent-regulated tenants. Instead, tax documents show there were more than 300 rent-regulated units. Nearly all the permit applications were signed by a Kushner employee, including sometimes the chief operating officer."
If it goes all the way up to the COO, then I think it's hard to believe Kushner's lack of knowledge in this.

Expect to see a lot of "I told him to 'Handle it, handle it." being tossed out along with about the same amount of "I know nuthzing, NUTHZING!".

PS - As I understand it, the line is going to be "I asked him if there were any 'protected' apartments in the building, and I must have misunderstood him to say 'No.' - when he actually said 'I don't know.'. Hey, these things happen you know and we're quite prepared to retroactively file the corrected applications so that there aren't any problems.".

I have no idea, but I suspect that the answer is likely to be the same as the answer to the question "Why do I keep burning my ass when I sit on the lit stove?".

Godalmighty. The corruptness of the people in the White House is downright shocking. But actually, no, it's not at all surprising, when I think about it.

What "corruptness"?

It was a perfectly innocent mistake.

The person filling out the forms asked "Are there any rent controlled apartments in the building?".

The answer to the questions was "I don't know.".

The person filling out the forms misheard the answer and thought that it was "No.".

See, all perfectly innocent.

True, true. It's like Jeff Sessions accidentally suffering from amnesia while testifying to Congress about the Russians. Perfectly innocent and benign.

Rent control for special people ?

Sounds sort of communist, glad to see the dog ate it.

Well, you do have to admit that it is plausible enough to "raise a reasonable doubt" (and in this case, as a judge once said to me "Just BARELY" [one of my more enjoyable cases]).
