Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said he was as “surprised as anyone” when he learned his staff had ordered a $31,000 dining set, but newly released emails appear to show he and his wife personally selected the furniture.
An email from Carson’s assistant was sent in August with the subject line: “Secretary’s Dining Room Furniture Needed.” It cites “printouts of the furniture the Secretary and Mrs. Carson picked out.”
The documents were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act Request from American Oversight — a watchdog group helmed by former Obama administration officials.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

What a colossal farce this administration is.

I didn't even know they made dining room sets that cost that much. We inherited ours and it functions quite well. Of course when we host the finer friends of ours, we bring out the "good" table linens.

The scary thing is that is way too close to the truth.

The scarier thing is, The President and Congress will ignore this scandal. Trump has succeeded at gutting the enforcement of regulations even better than he's deregulated. The current regime is sending a message. That message is, sure we have regulatyions, but it's OK to ignore them, we have stopped enforcing the rules.

oh snap! Can't wait to hear the explanations and justification for this one.

Did you look at the emails? On page 158, it looks like Carson didn't even want new furniture -- he just wanted to hang up portraits of the Secretaries that were missing from the hallway.

Yes, I read them. He may not have wanted them at first but he ended up personally picking them out then denying it. Also, the portraits were $25,000 each so that's not much better than a $31,000 dining set.

Oh he wanted it.....The man is a shameless liar.....Should be fired.....

I imagine it will be something like
I have no knowledge of the decision to purchase the Newport Dining Table or the Sable Leg Single pedestal base ---both in Dark Walnut finish--, or the Regent Side and Arm chairs --in Medium Mahogony finish with custom upholstery.

Secy Ben Carson

What does this even mean. Your comment makes no sense

I believe he means to say that Trump, a thoroughly corrupt human being, only appoints other thoroughly corrupt humans to government posts.

That makes no sense when you consider how the expression is known to mean talking about children and parents. Trump and carson were not even freinds before the election. It's a huge reach.

I know what the original saying meant, but my explanation goes to what Top Cat meant. And he's right: corrupt people only hire/appoint corrupt people. A corrupt person is likely to see no value in hiring an honest person. Honest people, in the end, tend to cause trouble for corrupt. Of course, as we can see here, corrupt people do end up causing trouble for the corrupt, but criminals don't tend to see things that far down the road.

That he actually needed it explained tells you all you need to know.

This is scandalous needless corruption that is rampant and should infuriate people, heads should roll. The reality is, the GOP is so desperate to hold on to power, and the democrats so spineless, that it's a total nothingburger.

You are witnessing the end of America, with the GOP scutttling the ship and pocketing to booty before heading for the life boats (note allt he resignations from congress?).
