And I hope they win. Fox should be ashamed but you can't shame the shameless so I hope this family punches them in the pocket hard for perpetuating lying conspiracy theories to their already nutjob viewership.

Family of slain Democratic staffer Seth Rich sues Fox News

The family of slain Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Fox News, one of the network's reporters, and a wealthy Texas businessman over their roles in the publication of a baseless conspiracy theory about Rich's 2016 death.

Sounds like a frivilous lawsuit.

Also, I like how CNN says "death" instead of murder. That's tells you exactly where this is headed.

Wow your post says a lot about you but it's par for the course for your posts.

2nd paragraph of the story.

"The pain and anguish that comes from seeing your murdered son's life and legacy treated as a mere political football is beyond comprehension."

Then there's this:

The lawsuit said that Malia Zimmerman, the Fox News reporter named in the lawsuit, worked with Ed Butowsky, the wealthy businessman, to develop a "sham" story about Rich's death that Fox News published online in May 2017 and referenced on-air multiple times.

Looks like you took the bait. No surprises here.

We already have this thread under discussion, and, as I pointed out there, the case is likely to be dismissed because FOX didn't create the narrative that the parents' are suing over.

I said this in the other thread on this matter. I don't usually approve of law suits (they can be frivolous), but in this case it's valid.

What Fox did was shameful. It's one thing to make a mistake and then have to walk it back. They clearly knew that this story was false, and in spite of requests from the family and also the obvious evidence that it was a sham, they still continued with the nonsense, probably because of the drooling fans who actually believed it.

I suspect Fox will settle out of court, like they did with Gretchen Carlson. Fox knows they were wrong here. They should have suspended their reporter but I don't believe they did. They did pretty much serve up some humiliation to Hannity (well deserved, no less).

The family of slain Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Fox News, one of the network's reporters, and a wealthy Texas businessman over their roles in the publication of a baseless conspiracy theory about Rich's 2016 death.

The lawsuit, filed in US District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeks compensation for "mental anguish and emotional distress, emotional pain and suffering, and any other physical and mental injuries."
If they can bring that case so can Trump and hundreds of others.

The press has a license to destroy without facts or reason and at this juncture in the universe, nothing will be done about it. We just have to deal with it because who becomes the arbiter of truth?

I am glad as well. This will lead to discovery, opening up areas the DNC dont even want to go. Opened up a can of sweet worms where Fox can go fishing into areas heretofore closed off...Seth was an IT guy, so those suspect servers might get some prying outside fingers reaching in to see the goodies secreted within.

Bravo Smart move Rich family...just might to lead to solving his "robbery" and murder..

Serious question here: Could Julian Assange, if he chose, shed light on Seth Rich's death?

If he could, he already would have.

Did the Clintons really have to have him killed?

Did the Clintons really have to have him killed?

WOW did you ever violate the old saying.....

'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.'

This lawsuit, even though I believe it has 100% merit, will face a long, uphill battle. Courts are notoriously leery when it comes to libel and slander for fear of appearing to chip away at the First Amendment, even where those lawsuits are completely with merit. The lawyer arguing for the Rich family will need to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Fox knowingly and deliberately aired false information. We know Fox knowingly lied, but is the evidence good enough for a courtroom? That remains to be seen.

Did the Clintons really have to have him killed?

This demonstrates the value of airing false information: even after the correction or retraction, a segment of the population will hold on to a conspiracy theory for dear life.

This being a debate website, would you like to pick out a statement of fact or supposition by me ..and, you know, specifically contend it...or just surrender by continuing with that blankie statement of, you know, a nu uh, Im right and youre wrong seemingly kinder level debating style as exhibited thus far?

"The lawsuit said that Malia Zimmerman, the Fox News reporter named in the lawsuit, worked with Ed Butowsky, the wealthy businessman, to develop a "sham" story about Rich's death that Fox News published online in May 2017 and referenced on-air multiple times.ABC News first reported on the Rich family's lawsuit.

Zimmerman's story said Rod Wheeler, a private investigator and Fox News contributor hired by Butowsky to look into Rich's death, had learned that Wikileaks had been in contact with Rich prior to his death. The story suggested without real evidence that Rich had leaked a trove of DNC emails to Wikileaks and further suggested that his death, which police suspect was a botched robbery, was retribution for the supposed leak.

Within hours, however, the Fox News story fell apart when Wheeler, who is now suing Fox News over the story, told CNN he had no evidence to suggest Rich had contacted Wikileaks before his death.

But Fox News left the story up on its website for days and guests continued to mention the conspiracy theory on its air. The network ultimately retracted the story seven days after it was published.

The Rich family lawsuit said the actions taken by the defendants "were so outrageous in character and so extreme in degree as to go beyond all possible bounds of decency and are atrocious and utterly intolerable in a civilized community."

Since Fox News published its baseless story, the Rich family has been open about the pain it has inflicted upon them. Aaron Rich, the brother of Seth Rich, sent a letter to Hannity days after Fox News published its story, telling him that continuing to cover the story would "cause us additional pain, suffering and sorrow." Joel Rich later told NPR that the publication of Fox News' story was "almost as bad for us as when we first learned of Seth's death."

From my friend Peter, from another thread, who breaks it down:

"So a Republican Sugar Daddy, in conjunction with Fox reporter Malia Zimmerman, hires a PI to say that Rich had leaked a bunch of DNC emails and that Democrats had Seth Rich murdered as retribution. The story falls apart within hours as Rod Wheeler, the PI is like whoa, I never said anything like that all, and Rod Wheeler is suing Fox as well. Fox leaves the story up for a WEEK before retracting it and of course it now lives on as Conservative Zombie News that you just can't kill.

Bad look all around for anybody involved in repeating this almost immediately discredited conspiracy theory. I am sorry for the Rich family being victims of Republican agitprop and I hope they exact their revenge and make an example of this type of scurrilous, political and profit driven fabrication.

Serious question here: Could Julian Assange, if he chose, shed light on Seth Rich's death?

My impression is that Assange already did.

Assange cannot, at least not and maintain his enterprise faithfully, ever divulge sources...but by calling attention to Rich's murder and himself offering a reward for information in the case, give sleuths watching closely reason to think that this is as close as Assange can bring himself.

There is a lot of curious goings on in this unsolved "botched robbery" ( nothing stolen ) and murder of this Bernie supporter.

I, obviously, dont know exactly what Assange knows and doesnt, but I surmise, along with others, that Rich was most probably the source of the DNC "hack", actually more accurately a leak, and not the Russians. Its been proven to my satisfaction that it was impossible to download, with the then current technology, the amount of data that was stolen in the amount of time allotted for the breach of the servers.

That brings into serious doubt the Russian collusion and why there has been this push...what are the real reasons?

Best answer I can give at the moment.

The US intelligence agency's say it was the Russians...but now some guy in the "mtns of Panama " thinks it was this poor Seth Rich...I'm going with the pros on this one

'Nuff said.

Like it, or not, it's protected by the 1st Amendment.

The Seth Rich murder will have to investigated for real, now.

Seth Rich was shot two times, in the back, nothing was stolen and the D.C. police ruled it a botched robbery. Yeah, nothing fishy about that.
