Texas judge orders electric shocks for uncooperative defendant

The judge opened the door to a dismissal of the case.

What is wrong with conservatives these days? When I was young, conservatism meant something. Conservatives of yesteryear believed that torturing prisoners was only what the Communists did. It's repugnant that we are even debating the merits of torture.

Don't ask me, I'm not a conservative. Nor am I discussing the merits of torture. Did you just pick my post on a whim?

I'll ask you then. You think a child predator should be set free instead of given a new trial?

What you are doing is justifying torture. Torture is an unacceptable practice in a civilized society.

Sad but I can say I do not think it would happen in my country. If it did, Judge would be removed and whoever else was involved in would be charged and sued.

Neither in my country, we do not have elected judges, they are appointed based on merit and training/aptitude, not popularity and elections.

Same in Canada- appointed.

Yep. I never understood electing either judges or sheriffs. Both positions should be filled via an objective system that puts the most qualified person into the position. Basically, start with a list of minimum requirements that must be met in order to even get on the list of candidates and then start weeding out people based on things like depth of training/education, experience, accuracy in judgement, etc. until you have the best candidate possible.

Add in the system that France uses.

WTF? The fact that one crime or injustice occurred does not excuse another. If that trial was rendered invalid then trying him again is not double jeopardy - ordering re-trials has been done before. It is not the fault of the victim that the judge assigned to hear the state's case acted improperly.

Exactly right. He may be able to collect civil damages because the judge violated his civil rights but he still needs to be tried.

No he didn't. It's not a double jeopardy situation.

50,000 volts is essentially being Tased in a courtroom. In similar situations, a disruptive defendant is usually removed and shackled inside a holding room where s/he can view and hear the court proceeding via a video feed.

It wasn't punishment. It was Electro-Shock Therapy! EST has been proven effective to at least some extent. Never "mind" the side-effects, and those cases where it doesn't "work."

And if found guilty donate ALL of his money to the victim. And execute him. That would be Justice.

Already did.

NO you didn't. You said some vague thing about Trump being there.

That is not a connection.

Show us where the judge did this because of Trump.

I definitely could not be a judge or bailiff, if I had to sit and hear what sex acts pedophiles performed on kids all day long, I’d hold the button down.
