France to set legal age of sexual consent as 15

Of all the things to worry about. I am more concerned about methods to produce foie gras. Today's 15 y/o can hold their own.

I don’t think that’s of concern here. The problem is when they start holding someone else's. ;)

Because in America a 50 year old can have sex with a high school sophomore and that's ok?

... I don't know, bring it to Judge Moore.

France is France.

Clinton peeps have no room to talk.

Clinton did not have a problem with minors. His issue was more analogous to Trump, except the Trump was much more sleezy about it. Moore was ostensibly a pedophile.

In Medieval times it was extraordinarily common for noble marriages to be very young as well as common marriages. I'd check your history.

It was also very common for people to die before the age of 30. Different times altogether.

I think they are taking the "rational" rather than the "emotional" approach to the situation.

It is a matter of "age of consent," mixed with a willingness to recognize that sex, in and of itself is neither unnatural nor a "bad thing."

There is a natural bent to protect one's kids, but we've all been teens once upon a time and might recall that back then we often felt that the more stifling the controls the more impetus we had to break the rules and do things simply because we were told NOT to.

Unlike Americans, I find Europeans generally (aside from the Brits) more open about sex and sexuality. That means they teach their kids about it earlier than we tend to here in the USA, and without all the fearmongering. This tends to make their kids more open to talking to their parents about such things and getting advice.

Choice in anything is all about having enough information to make an informed decision about something.

Face it, kids are having sex as soon as possible after they realize what it is and that they can...about as fast as they can find someone willing to have a go at it.

They don't want to do it with some old perve. Did YOU when you were a kid? I know when I was a 15 year-old kid I thought the 18 year-old Airmen who tried to hit on girls my age were weird...why do you think some 50 year-old would be better?

Wouldn't you prefer your kids to feel free to talk to you about it, and not feel like if they do you'll smother them and make them end up doing it behind your back with the wrong people?

If you think they aren't now, in our society? Think again.

I and many other people I know realized things at 13 and really started getting the urges by 14.

I'm 19 now so in any case the debate doesn't apply to me anymore outside of having children in the future.

You're seeing teachers from all over the country getting arrested for manipulating kids into sex. You see child predators all over the internet luring kids into these acts by using their naïve and inexperienced natures against them. Priests in the church.....

You think all 15-year-olds are equipped to handled such situations?

Age of consent, vote, buy firearms, drink a beer, drive a car....always comical to me.

This is incomprehensible. So a 50-year-old can have sex with a high school freshman, and that's ok?

What the hell, France?

Wow, so France lowers the age of consent to 15 not long after Europe took in a million unvetted Muslim refugees ( mostly young men ) over the last few years

Something tells me there's a relation between the two....

Bingo.

Nobody can raise a white flag like the French.

Apparently, Europe is relying on red neck jokes and as a guide to set the ultimate Progressive example for the rest of the world to follow

Honestly, whats happening in those Countries is indefensible, and Liberals in the US would do it here in a heartbeat if they could.

Has anyone told Roy Moore? The perv would be right at home.

Sign of the times...get ready...it's coming to a country near you...

Monica Lewinsky was just one of hundreds.

Hundreds!!??? Really? I don't deny that Bill was a philanderer but your hyperbolic speculation is kind of silly.

Clinton peeps have no room to talk.

What person has accused Clinton of sexual misconduct from when they were below 16 years of age? Give a full list now.

In your eagerness to bash the French and liberals, you forgot to read the whole post. They did not lower the age of consent. They raised it from 11. I agree that 15 is too low, but I think 16 is too low as well.

Age of consent in France has been 15 since 1945.

The change in law is so that you dont need to have forced yourself on someone to be accused of rape, if said person was under 15. That is the law in most of Europe already, and France is just catching up. More faux outrage by right wing America and of course ignorance of their own laws, where children can be married and where raping your wife is not illegal (in some states).
