Aide to Fla. state lawmaker falsely claims shooting survivors are 'actors,' not students

In every movement, there are leaders. Back in the 1960s, I am sure you would of been saying, "Out of 20 million Negroes, I've seen regular interviews with just this Martin Luther King calling for equal rights."

Well, now we have two members accusing kids of being part of a media conspiracy. I’m really getting sick of the right doing things like this. It’s f***ing disgusting. If they had any integrity, they’d be pissed at people lime Alex Jones right now.

Sorry to say, desiring integrity from the radical right is too much to ask for.

nice strawman.

Out of 3200 students, I've seen regular interviews with the same 4-8 kids who are calling for gun control. Like I said, the media has picked the message and opinion they want plastered everywhere.

... What's stopping sources like Breitbart and TheBlaze from interviewing all of the kids who want to bring more guns to school or are anti-gun control?

:)

MSNBC and CNN interviewed a student who complained that the media was pushing a gun control narrative. Needless to say, he's not being interviewed anymore.

Same goes for the JROTC students who protected classmates with kevlar blankets.

There are always a few students who are the vocal leaders in a given cause in any High school and are more likely to get the “ spotlight”.

About 100 High school shooting survivors traveled on buses ( 3 buses ) to the Florida State Capital to address their concerns

From this article:
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, have begun their 400-mile trip to the state's capital to pressure lawmakers on gun control. Roughly 100 students boarded three buses on Tuesday and will be making their case Wednesday once they arrive in Tallahassee.

You won't answer my question so I'll make it simpler: What is stopping all of the right wing news outlets from sending their own reporters down there so that they can interview all of the anti-gun control folks, and get the unbiased view you want?

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

What I was doing was making an analogy. A strawman is quite different.

straw man
ˌstrô ˈman/
noun
noun: strawman

1. an intentionally misrepresented proposition that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent's real argument.

Or, and I know this is shocking to you, maybe a lot of kids don't really want to be viciously attacked by Trump cultists for daring to state an opinion not that long after they watched their friends get murdered in front of them.

Your theory is, as usual, lacking in any sort of evidence.

Looking Fox News this morning--they are more interested in covering:

1. How this kid's adoptive family failed to realize that he had a potential for violence, and
2. How to better protect schools.

While the issue of gun control is noticeably absent, I feel like their coverage is noteworthy--as an alternative to other MSM organizations who be to be focused on the surviving students and potential gun control legislation. "Fair and balanced" maybe?

Ah, so they are covering who is to blame for the actions of this particular individual and how everyone else can better deal with lawful gun owners shooting up schools.

Maybe I'm not seeing the same things you are. I saw dozens of kids, many dozens of them, traveling to Tallahassee. I know all over the country groups of kids are forming protests.

They appear to have a few that have been designated as spokespeople. That isn't at all surprising, is it?

From another thread ...

The NYT had an article about the explosion of Russian bots about the school shooting. So there's that.

I also read that the most prominent of the students, the ones you've been seeing a lot of, the ones who were said to be so "articulate", are drama students who practiced their lines for their camera appearances.
Like that Hogg kid in the link ... forget that his father being ex FBI, that doesn't seem to be relevant either way ... but his mother is said to be seriously anti-Trump and a political activist with many causes.
She has a history.
That's relevant.
Does that mean they're all necessarily insincere about the cause?
Not at all.
Both can co-exist.
But if a subset of students are being influenced and facilitated by political activist group(s), it's good to know ... isn't it?
You know, so as not to get the wrong impression that the subset is an accurate representation of the whole.

Such practices don't all have to be undertaken by Russians but both should be made known.

There must be a case for a massive libel lawsuit against people spread this crap?

There is nothing surprising in the fact that the right wing has taken up another conspiracy theory. Just from 2017 alone you have:

1.Obama ordered an illegal wiretap on Trump.
2.Pizzagate
3.Uranium One
4.Strzok
5.Seth Rich
6.Obama's shadow government in Washington
7.The Charlottesville protests were created by the Left, and protesters on the right were Civil War re-enactors.
8.Roy Moore's accusers were bribed and one of them forged a signature
9.Truck drivers were on strike during relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
10. Michael Flynn is going to withdraw his guilty plea after Judge condemns Mueller
11. And now...Parkland Truthers.

So of course this was going to happen, because Republicans now derive nearly all of their news from sites that generate or disseminate conspiracy theories. As it always goes, each conspiracy theory will fade out, having dealt the damage it was intended to, and the next one will pop up.

wow three people look similar who have similar names! Is that what you are getting at?

Obviously these are clones with identical names. Nevertheless, if it's false, the aide will have to go.

Funny you should ask, over at Little Green Footballs, they are reporting on some lawsuits against Jim Hoft (dumbest man on the internet) and others at Brietbart for revealing the incorrect names of shooters before any real info has been reported.

Conspiracy's are funny.

On the general topic though, I don't think the media should be using these children. The media has picked the message they want.

But isn't that the joke?

Everything about this is politicized and was politicized long before kids started dropping in Florida. To pretend that we should be above "exploiting" the dead is just a way of insisting that everybody should just cry silently, shrug, and move on.

Its rather shocking how the right wing cannot accept that a group of young high school kids are well spoken, intelligent and make a lot of sense. If they were the opposite we would hear no end to criticisms about the public schools and the weak product they are turning out. So these kids have to be 25 year old college graduates who are actors on the side pretending they were at that high school caring paychecks from liberal organizations. Amazing!!!! :doh:roll:

The labor movements of the early 20th century all pretty much happened because of horrible tragedies concerning workers; people burned alive in factories, working in ****ty conditions, 10 year olds with black lungs, literally gave way to other people protesting for improved safety regulations. Could you imagine if one these modern conservatives were there? Hey guys, I know you're 10, and black lungs suck, but you shouldn't take Jimmy's death last week from black lung and politicize it for more safety measures, that's just not fair to the mine owners or conservatives.

And that's exactly what they're doing now. And it's f***ing disgusting. I mean, we're talking about kids, for god's sake. You'd think that would matter to them, but it doesn't.

Exactly.

Tragedy is what drives people to look at any issue. Without addressing that tragedy, we only encourage more tragedy. And it is absurd to pretend that politics has no place, knowing full well that legislation is eventually always necessary to address the trend of that tragedy.
