Fortune: The U.S. Was Just Downgraded from a 'Full' to 'Flawed Democracy'

[h=1]The U.S. Was Just Downgraded from a 'Full' to 'Flawed Democracy'[/h]

Let's hope that Whatshisname doesn't get his way and be able to prosecute the free press for publishing news he doesn't like or use the arms of the government to persecute those that disagree with him or "don't clap enough." Then, we won't have even a flawed democracy.

that paper is a complete idiot. we never were a full democracy. we are a represntative republic.

I pledge alliance to the flag and the REPUBLIC for which it stands.
we never were a full democracy.

This is like 5th grade history.

Being "a Democracy" isn't something to aspire to. A constitutional republic is superior to a social democracy, full democracy or any other form of mob rule.

It's been a flawed democracy since before I was even born. Now it's official. I suppose the silver-lining now is that people can no longer deny it that it's now so patently obvious.

It is official if you listen and care who those people are that are rating it.

Do you know anybody that does care, though?

Are you suggesting that after Trump it has become more democratic?

Can’t speak for others, but I’m stating straight up that if the OP hadn’t realized this WASNT about Trump he would have never posted it. Trump has nothing to do with it and that people try to bring him even into this discussion just goes to show how ****ing pathetic leftists have become.

Except we don't. Decisions are made democratically by democratically chosen representatives according to a democratically agreed to set of rules. In an actual oligarchy decisions are made directly by a few unelected entities. The people have no say.

America is no longer a democractic republic according to Princeton University. Princeton scholars and researchers concluded a few years ago that the USA is no longer an effective democracy, but is now in fact a plutocratic oligarchy. This is their conclusion:

Despite the seemingly strong empirical support in previous studies for theories of majoritarian democracy, our analyses suggest that majorities of the American public actually have little influence over the policies our government adopts. Americans do enjoy many features central to democratic governance, such as regular elections [sic], freedom of speech and association, and a wide- spread (if still contested) franchise. But we believe that if policymaking is dominated by powerful business organizations [sic] and a small number of affluent Americans, then America’s claims to being a democratic society are seriously threatened.

Not me. Earth is a ****hole, and humanity is inherently flawed. Of course, it's never a good thing when governance is.

The United States was never a full democracy, anyway.

Do you think their should be a law prohibiting the president (any president) from openly criticizing and disagreeing with the press?

Hello.....the USA was flawed in 1776........been like a rollercoaster since, this is the part of the ride where you throw your hands in the air and scream "whoopee!"

Must have been Bush's fault.:lamo

We were never intended to be a democracy.

I always believed our government was a Constitutional Federal Republic; with a strong democratic tradition.

Obviously, the Economic Intelligence Unit has no clue what a democracy is. We have never claimed to be a democracy and their criteria:

To arrive at this conclusion, the paper analyzed over 200 countries and considered factors like political culture and political participation.

“Popular trust in government, elected representatives and political parties has fallen to extremely low levels in the U.S.,

isn't it.

Our leaders throw around the word democracy when it is our constitution that protects the rights of the minorities and the individual. I think they do it on purpose because they don't like the fact that the individual has rights. Big government wants to rule over the people not serve the people. The constitution is in their way.

amazes me the way the left things the country has no ability to survive one man's presidency. Trust me, if Odrama wasn't able to turn America into a European-like socialist craphole then I'm certain it will survive a term or two of Trump. chillax

Maybe whatshisname could use the FBI and DOJ to get the dirt on his enemies in order to destroy the democratic process. Maybe a dossier or two would do the trick. A guy named Steele would be glad to invent one.

The Smearing of Christopher Steele

In his effort to malign the U.S. Justice system and confuse the American people in a hail-Mary attempt to protect President Donald Trump, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes seems to also have confused himself.
...
Instead, Steele was a former intelligence partner, who willingly shared information he believed was of interest to the U.S. If the FBI wished for him to continue his efforts, he would likely serve as a de facto paid contractor, providing his normal services, just on behalf of the FBI. In this sense, the FBI was a client, not a spymaster.

Such smart people don't know that we are a republic....

Well they are getting smarter. After 230+ years they finally figured out we are not a full democracy and never supported mob rule. Genius just genius.

Could you please rephrase that in better English?

Theyre wrong. People literally walk up to a voting booth and choose their representatives every two years. Thats democracy.

Democracy - control of an organization or group by the majority of its members

If you disagree, make an argument.
