Trump Threatens Government Shut Down

Typical spin from the media being snarfed down by the useful idiots.

Trump didn't say HE would shut down the government.
I like Trump but it did sound like he was saying if he did not get the loopholes closed its something he would be willing to shut the gov down over. The timing of it was a political blunder. Both sides agreed to take immigration out of this next spending bill negotiation. He needs to get military spending secured this found and negotiate the loopholes and the wall and whatever else he wants when daca gets debated in a few weeks

WASHINGTON — President Trump said he would shut down the government if Congress doesn't fix an immigration system that doesn't allow the government to deport criminal gang members.

"If we don’t change it, let’s have a shutdown. It’s worth it for our country. I'd love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this taken care of," Trump said Tuesday as he met with law enforcement officials to discuss the threat of the MS-13 gang.

You people don't really want a DACA deal. You need it for November.

Trump offered you amnesty for these law breakers, along with their immediate families, and you won't even talk about it.

You don't care about these people in the least. Purely political tools in your shed.

Frankly, I think threatening or forcing a government shutdown over immigration policy is really foolish. In fact, IMO the only time the government should shutdown is when it runs out of money. I get it, though. If you can create controversy around a spending measure (i.e., funding a border wall, an inter-state oil pipeline, a national healthcare system backed by the government, etc., etc.) it makes for good political theater along various power plays, thus, making it difficult for the majority in Congress to get the appropriations it wants. I've seen this movie play out too many times since the 1980's; I know what the real deal is. It's about POWER!

One day that cord to the government's power trip is going to get pulled.

I don't think so. I believe the vast majority of the people don't care at all and flip channels while the minority play shallow political games, exaggerate the issues, and look for opportunities to display their sad team spirits.

Evening MSgt, while your description of the Democrats is spot on, there are a LOT of people who are fed up with our feckless immigration practices. Things like the immigration lottery, the practice of capture and release where illegals are captured and given an immigration hearing date and released. Then over 90% of them don't show up for their hearings. They are fed up with those who overstay their visas and our government seems to have trouble tracking their whereabouts to deport them. Folks are fed up with it.

Just a few hours ago it was reported Edwin Jackson, Indianapolis Colts linebacker, was killed by an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who had been deported TWICE was driving a vehicle under the influence and killed a 26 year old pro ball player and his Uber driver. Folks are tired of these stories and shaking their head in disgust over the fecklessness.

Folks on a local level are sick and tired of their school systems being burden by having to provide for the special needs for the children of illegals who need interpreters, special aides, and counsellors etc. These professionals don't come cheap. All the while school districts struggle to find the funds to repair current school buildings and meeting the needs to build new ones. We in Ohio like most in the country pay for funding our school systems through property taxes. So every American who owns a home watches their property taxes increase in part to pay for it all. But the extra money they end up paying out ends up costing their own families in denying them.

You remember during the Obama administration when we had that exodus of millions of children from South America countries pouring through our borders without parents? Those kids were placed in holding areas and then Obama had them shipped all over the country. I live in a school district that was effected by that encounter. I also watched my real estate taxes soar after that too. I live in a burb of Columbus Ohio. The median income for this area is above the national average. We have good schools and a low crime rate. I have never minded paying taxes if it benefitted my community. But what I do take issue with is being forced to pay for those who are here illegally depriving the kids in my community who were born here with the things they are deserving.

My point is this, politics are local. They always have been. It doesn't matter how a political party wants to spin something nationally, those local individuals effected by feckless policies originating in Washington will vote accordingly.

Same thing with the tax cuts. The Dem leadership called the tax reform passed by the Republicans on a partisan vote, Armageddon, crumbs to the least among us yada yada....
But locally it is playing out quite differently. Folks found less in taxes taken out of their paycheck. Locals saw job opportunities open up in a local factory to engineers.

Do try to keep up.

This thread is about Trump wanting to shut down the government. It is about the words that just came out of his ****hole that you call a mouth. "I'd love to see a shutdown"

The democrats don't own that.

But surely you will find a way to lie, spin, deflect or point your finger at somebody else because that is what Trumpkins do.

Perhaps the Hildabeast was right. A whole basket full indeed.

Trump laid his cards on the table offering a very generous offer to the Dems.

Trump claiming he hopes the Dems shut down the government is because it means Dems will take the blame because Trump's offer was so generous. The majority see through this kabuki theatre and will hold Dems accountable if it comes to this.

You don't care about gang victims.

What do gang victims have to do with a government shutdown ? Trump slammed the Dems for doing the exact same thing. If Trump catches crap for being a hypocrite, so be it. For Trump to hijack the death of that NFL player is grandstanding in the worst possible taste. But I expect nothing less from the source, an integrity free wind bag.

The title should be "Trump Threatens Government Shut Down... Again"

No actually the thread should read Trump threatens a SHOWDOWN

I'm not surprised. You relish the spin.

He said "i'd love to see a shutdown if we don't get this stuff taken care of." I know you never pay attention to his actual words because it encroached on your fantasy, but some of us pay attention to reality.

If it's not a threat, what is it? A blessing?

Someone doesn't know that a 'government shutdown' is simply a furlough.

He cares more about America than his critics.

Says a person who has no understanding what it's like not to know when his next paycheck is coming.

OK kids...a government shutdown/furlogh/halt/whatever...would be a 'bad' thing.
It has a direct impact on the nation's credit rating.

However...why on Earth would anyone argue that illegal aliens who have criminal records to boot, should be able to remain in America?
Isn't that sort of...what do they call it...'stupid'?

It is beyond me why this all seems like such a hurdle for you Yankees. Ya bring them all in one at a time, interview them, make a decision, and leave those you want, and heave-ho to those you don't. It's doable...and hey, it creates 'busy-work' jobs for a number of people.

There are more than 12 million illegal immigrants in the US. What you just suggested is impossible.

There have been 17 shutdowns since 1977, Trump was not president over any of them and guess what, we survived and got a break from politicians figuring out how to spend more.

The government shut down two and a half weeks ago. The current president was president then.

I think it was a political blunder by Trump. He should be focused on getting his military funding approved on the csr like the dems got chip funding on the last one. Save the immigration fight for the next battle.

The Democrats "got" CHIP funding? Thank you for reminding us that the Republicans don't care about children.

Everyone should realize that the President cannot sign a spending bill unless Congress passes one. That said, if there is a government shutdown it is as much Congress fault as the President.

Except when the president refuses to sign a bill even if Congress passes one. That's all on him.

Nobody loves children more than Republicans. They taste delicious with the right seasonings

When one is debating and hopefully passing a budget, it is money issues that should be discussed. Not DACA. DACA has absolutely nothing to due with funding the government. It is a different subject, topic, legislation altogether. It's asinine to tie it to the budget process. DACA deserves its own forum, its own debates, its own legislation. Fight over funding, fight over spending, all budget related.

This in my opinion is worst that tying the repeal of Obamacare to the debt ceiling vote back in 2013. At least Obamacare had some taxes, money associated with it. Although Obamacare didn't have a thing to do with raising the debt ceiling. The GOP was dead wrong then, the Democrats are dead wrong today. Let's keep this apples to apples, oranges to oranges and not try to have a fruit cocktail of mixed legislation that has nothing to do with the other.

The president is the person who wanted DACA addressed with the budget in January.

And that is totally different than "threatening" to shut down the government.

That's what I mean about "typical spin".

Uhhh . . .

"If we don’t change it, let’s have a shutdown. It’s worth it for our country. I'd love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this taken care of," Trump said Tuesday as he met with law enforcement officials at the White House to discuss the threat of the MS-13 gang.

You can even feel 'em up and win the Republican nomination to a US Senate seat. What a bunch of sick dumpster dwellers.

cadet bone spurs is the one who said he would love to have a shutdown today; 8 times;
As he lied about DEMs not wanting to fund the military, another real issue he blew up today.

The gop has shamelessly used the military as a bastardized prop since Reagan.

And now trump wants a goose-stepping parade from troops.
And you know better than all of us that the troops don't want it ...

I don't think he threatened.

He is taking a shrugged attitude towards it in anticipation that there will be yet another lame little shutdown. This will allow him to pretend that, despite Republicans having majority in Congress, Senate, and White House, it's all the Democrats' fault.

It's amazing. The GOP's fix to years of bad budgeting is to present the nation with something that is only good for a few weeks at a time.

It's like buying $2 worth of gas three times a day. They're all idiots.

we know liberals don't care about the country that is why they won't pass a bill that the president will sign and continue putting up the pos bills.

Who held the Childrens Health Insurance Program hostage??? Oh yea that was the Grand Ole Party..................not the dems. So country over children is ok?? Got it.

May be he just doesn't want to be bullied.

Maybe he's the biggest bully in the world and should have been loved when he was a child. Instead he threw the entire country in the toilet and then flushed it.

Except when the president refuses to sign a bill even if Congress passes one. That's all on him.

True. That has not happened yet now has it? Time will tell on this round (Thursday dealine).
Not defending Trump. I dislike his statement of "shut it down". Poor leadership skills on his part.

Trump can't shutdown the government. Once again, it is all up the Democrats. If they block funding because they care more about allowing illegal aliens to murder U.S. citizens than the lives of our military in Afghanistan, then they will have shutdown the government once again. If they give us the wall, their DACA kids can stay. Funding the government needs to be separate from the immigration debate.
