A Russian Sukhoi-25 fighter jet has been shot down in a rebel-held area near Idlib in north Syria, reports say.
The pilot was said to have ejected before the crash and been captured, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

Link.

Tensions are already high wit American forces in areas where Turkish forces are bombing, this adds to the general confusion. Just hope this doesn't become an international event.

Well, hell...there went a quick $500. :doh

But, I would have imagined the Su-25 to be a bit more durable than that....its supposed to be Russia's version of the American A-10 Warthog.

Typically, to avoid confliction, RFAF aircraft operate west of the Euphrates and US coalition aircraft operate east of the Euphrates.

Idlib province is far west of the Euphrates and no American forces are there. Location would indicate either aircraft failure, Turkish forces, Assad forces (blue on blue), or Syrian rebels.

Lots of Manpads floating around since Libya
What about when they are smuggled into the EU and blow an airliner out of the sky. Just a matter of time

One more dead Russian pilot.

Most excellent.
Wrong.
There are Russian, Syrian, US and Turkish planes in the area. 1 mistake and this gets serious and **** starts happening. And that is the last we want.

Yes, but the only pilot in this case who was killed was a Russian one.

That is always good, quite apart from any heightened tensions and other parties in the area.

Why would it be good? do you simply hope people die? What did russia do there to deserve dead pilots, especially since they are fighting the same enemy as us, isis?

The Russians are fighting with Assad's military and are responsible for such things as bombing hospitals and civilians. War crimes.

Every dead Russian pilot is cause for celebration.

That and the fact that Putin and Trump are blood brothers.

Who shot down the Su-25

In the Syrian province of Idlib, which fell into the zone of influence of the Turkish army, Russia bears yet another loss
... the offensive of the Syrian government army in the province of Idlib On January 9, the ambassadors of Russia and Iran were summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, where they were presented with notes of protest. Turkey insisted that the territory is controlled by "moderate opposition" ....
Although from the province of Idlib, from the area controlled by the "moderate opposition", in early January, an attack was carried out by UAV's drones ... "It was in the province of Idlib about a week ago that a Turkish military convoy of about 100 tanks, armored vehicles and combat infantry vehicles ... ""

The russians are also fighting isis and the al quaeda/ al nursa front that has been even more ruthless, so not much a cause for celebration since without russia entering the conflict terrorists would have overrun the country, for much of the conflict, allied forces had overthrowing assad as the top priority and fighting terrorists as a low priority, trump atleast switched his priorities around and put isis and other terrorists as top priority.

Fyi if you are not aware, russia is an ally of syria and has been for decades, russia is there with permission of the syrian govt, if russia wanted to they could declare the united states and turkey as hostile invaders and they would be in the right by international law, think about that for a second.

No, I'm quite aware of Russia's relationship with Syria.

I'm not sure you've understood what I've stated here.

Every. Dead. Russian. Pilot. Is. A. Cause. For Celebration.

I know the Russians. I've lived in Moscow. Assad is ****ing filth, the equivalent of a Nazi, as is any faction that supports him.

He is the equivalent of ISIS.

Hop I cleared that up for you.

Assad is the equivilent of isis, so his protection of minorities= kicking gays off buildings or beheading people for not being strict sunni, gotcha you are ignorant of the entire region or how they function, and fail to realize assad and iranian govt falling apart would lead to a bigger genocide than the holocaust.

The Iranian gov't isn't going to fall apart. You simply have no idea about this subject.
Your support of Nazi filth noted.

You're welcome

You should read your sources, the first I did not read because I am not removing adblocker to see it, the next two said the us said, so the side that up until trump made it it's highest priority to remove assad said is somehow proof. The last one mentioned assad did not send food and medicine to rebel held areas, omfg in a civil war he is a war criminal because he did not feed the people trying to kill him.

syria is a civil war, that is funded and ran by people outside syria not inside syria, as the syrian people voted for the guy knowing he would protect minorities and keep the peace, that is why most of his opposition is not even from syria, but from turkey saudi arabia and other sunni countries fighting to overthrow him. Not a single bit of this would have happened if other countries had not sent their men in to fight the syrian govt, but some people are so hell bent on ruining lives so long as it furthers their political goals.

Again, you support Nazi filth.
I've read my sources.

Assad had executed thousands of people, en masse, to support this own regime, in a systematic and mechanized mannyer.

Who gives a flying **** if he 'supports minorities' when he slaughters majorities?

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Assad is the Barack Obama of Syria - an ethnic minority who wields state power over the many to serve his ethnic few.

Whatever you have to tell yourself to keep your fantasy intact, I suppose.

There are plenty of other precedents. Stalin wasn't a Russian, but was instead from the tiny Georgian minority. Likewise, Tito was a Croat not a Serb, Ataturk wasn't a Muslim.
