1: It should be noted that these are "secondary sanctions" that are being discussed. The main ones are in place and being enforced as far as I know. Do any of you have evidence to the contrary? And what does the law have to say in regards to these secondary sanctions? Were they supposed to be implemented no matter what? Or was there discretion allowed?
2: Here comes a whataboutism : So, when Obama chose to not enforce immigration law and enacted an EO that gave us DACA and DAPA what were your stances? Executive privilege on what to enforce and what not to enforce? Or were you for enforcement of the full law and was against Obama's DACA and DAPA EO's?
For the record my stance on both is the same. Enforce the law as passed by the legislative branch and signed by the President.
We all appreciate you flagging the "whataboutism" for what it is. In this case, however, its a fail. You imply that Obama failed to enforce immigration laws. That is not true. In fact, he aggressively pursued ICE. More people were deported during the Obama years than during any other presidency.
Obama Has Deported More People Than Any Other President - ABC News
The DACA issue is a subset of this.... ICE has limited resources and thus there is a priority to how it is used. The DACA population has always been a low to non-priority for ICE. His wanting that policy formalized does not detract from the fact Obama was an aggressive ICE president.
So, in this case, "whatabout Obama" is not an argument.
