[h=1]Gloria Allred: Walmart 'segregated,' locked up African American products[/h]

(KGTV) - Attorney Gloria Allred announced Friday a lawsuit against Walmart over discrimination allegations stemming from African American hair products.
The famed attorney held a news conference with Essie Grundy, who said she was discriminated against based on her race at a Perris, Calif., Walmart on Jan. 12. Allred alleges Walmart is in violation of California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, prohibiting businesses from discriminating against customers based on race.

"[She] discovered that the cream and other hair products meant for African Americans had been locked away behind glass shelves and were segregated from products for non-African Americans,' Allred said, noting that the other products were not locked away and Grundy was told she had to be escorted to the cash register to purchase the products.

1. So is this attention whoring attorney off her rocker or what.

2. Do you agree with her?

3. If you own a store and a certain product is stolen often can you not lock it up if that product caters more to minorities?

4. Is this an example of walmart racism or a frivolous law suit?

What a balanced way to start a thread.

I read something recently that made a lot of sense.

You should try to remember, ideas are conveyed by researching information, vetting sources, and confirming said information. Not by regurgitating talking points given to you by your "news" station.

Um...I think she's reaching pretty far with that one.

I mean they do the same things with video games: I have to go over there, ask them to take the one I want out of the shelf, and then walk over to the register.

The dumb is strong with this one.

Is it racist of her to assume the products are only for African Americans?

Certain products are more inline with what a black person would use vs a white person, so that's not the question, what she's claiming is they only locked up the things black people are more likely to use and claims that's racist.

I was wondering why all the watermelons were in a cage.

The woman is getting desperate to keep herself relevant...SMH...

Dead giveaway for limited education
My walmart drug lady said she had to be on Medicaid
Lousy pay, no benefits,
No mention of the C grabbers $1000 bonus

4) If Walmart can prove that certain items are stolen more frequently and further, that those losses contribute to higher prices for consumers, I think they'll have a good defense.
Now, why do I have to get the ABC store clerk to unlock my favorite Tequila?

What if.... I know this is probably a stupid idea...

What if, the products that just so happened to be stolen more, are ones that cater to minorities?

That's ray-cist!

Just like the bullet proof glass that some establishments decided to start using in poorer neighborhoods, so ray-cist.

... just what are you suggesting SIR?!?!

I hope you're not suggesting that people implement security measures AFTER the fact!

Hmm... if one could show that Walmart's special product security measures raise prices on products not needing to be be specially secured could they sue as well?

Should white people bring lawsuits against drug stores for assuming they are drug addicts when selling them Pseudoephedrine?
That drug got purloined so much that now you have to go to the back of the store and sign it out when you buy it.
Fair? Hell, I'm white. I don't have a meth lab at home, but I understand that companies and businesses have to protect themselves.

Would it be a tad uncomfortable to be forced to go through this in order to purchase the drug? Yes, perhaps, but I'm able to subordinate my need to feel rainbows and unicorns shooting out of my butt for a greater good.
I understand life isn't allaboutmeallthetime.com.

How does a product cater to minorities?? My wife uses those hair care products and she's a blue-eyed blonde with the curliest hair you ever saw. Is there a sign on them that says "Black people only"?? If so, I'm going to have let her know that she can't buy them any more.

Blacks tend to have thicker hair than whites so products are developed and marketed towards those features. my wife is "black irish" with curly hair, her products are not the same a typical african american type hair person would use.

Is it racist of her to assume the products are only for African Americans?

Do you think WalMart locked up the products because they were primarily used by black Americans? Or might it be because they were highly pilfer-able items with a history of being stolen, by whom...well...who can say?

Hot damn!

I wonder if Ms Allred will represent white males in their lawsuit?
