Gloria Allred: Walmart 'segregated,' locked up African American products

If those specific items really are stolen at a significantly higher rate than other hair products, they have a reasonable defense. But anyone shocked at why a black person might take issue with only those items in the “African American hair products” section being locked up should pause and actually think for a bit....

In some cities, the shoplifting is so bad that most of the items are under lock and key. Walgreen's locations in San Francisco look like a prison commissary, where workers have to retrieve common items like shaving razors and deodorant. There's no racial component to any of this.

1. So is this attention whoring attorney off her rocker or what.

2. Do you agree with her?

3. If you own a store and a certain product is stolen often can you not lock it up if that product caters more to minorities?

4. Is this an example of walmart racism or a frivolous law suit?

Number one.

Would you talk like this in front of blacks? No you wouldn't. But because you're safe behind a keyboard you think it's okay.

Would I talk like what? What did I say is offensive? Also, I am a black hispanic Dominican. Why would I not be safe talking to black people, mocking white people like I presume you are, misidentifying racism?

You aren't helping us, by crying wolf (racism) where there isn't you do actual harm to real victims of racism who because of people like you, are less likely to be believed. Like false allegations of rape do harm to actual victims of rape who fear not being believed. STFU about racism, you've never actually seen it.

Racist jokes about watermelon and chicken aren't racist? Mocking how people talk isn't ray-cist?

Your overcompensation in this post is a bit strange...

In a former career, I was an auditor and CPA and during that job I ended up working with more than one retail client. I can tell you from experience that even smaller retail businesses generally keep excellent track of the statistics around their inventory items and would certainly know which types of items are stolen more frequently, even down to the individual store level (especially a company like WalMart, they have their act together). Keeping stock items under lock and key is a common practice, especially with high value, small items like cosmetics or health products that are easily resold. I doubt this lawsuit has legs if it makes it to court, but I get why it was filed: to push for adverse media attention and a settlement.

What a balanced way to start a thread.

I read something recently that made a lot of sense.

You should try to remember, ideas are conveyed by researching information, vetting sources, and confirming said information. Not by regurgitating talking points given to you by your "news" station.

So...nothing on the actual subject addressed in the OP. So I guess I could say, "What a no-content comment to make a 1st post in a thread."

So as for the actual subject of the thread, no, it's not racist to lock up the items that are stolen the most.

The section the products are in is called “African American hair products” by Walmart

Ah...so the products themselves are racist to begin with with their exclusionary labeling.

1. So is this attention whoring attorney off her rocker or what.

Yes, Allred has lost it on this one.

2. Do you agree with her?

Absolutely not.

3. If you own a store and a certain product is stolen often can you not lock it up if that product caters more to minorities?

Yes, you can lock up whatever you feel is necessary to lock up.

4. Is this an example of walmart racism or a frivolous lawsuit?

Worse, this is a frivolous lawsuit that is using a social issue as a weapon.

My wife is 100% WASP. Her hairstylist is the local "go to" for the black ladies in our community and she told my wife that working with her hair is EXACTLY like working with a black lady's hair.

Does your wife put oil or (old-school) lard in her hair?

Do you think WalMart locked up the products because they were primarily used by black Americans? Or might it be because they were highly pilfer-able items with a history of being stolen, by whom...well...who can say?

I never thought I'd see the day when Estee Lauder allowed their perfumes to be sold at a Walmart, but they do, and the expensive perfumes are also locked up.

So...nothing on the actual subject addressed in the OP. So I guess I could say, "What a no-content comment to make a 1st post in a thread."

Okay, you don't understand. That's fine with me.

So as for the actual subject of the thread, no, it's not racist to lock up the items that are stolen the most.

Dollars to donuts, you do not have the legal expertise to make that determination. Dollars to donuts, Walmart makes a big out of court settlement.

This case is absurd! 1st of all, Walmart is NOT the only retailer that sells the items in question. Go someplace else!
2nd, if you want or need an item (i.e., OTC allergy or cold medicine, replacement razor cartridges, even cheap headphones), sometimes you have to go through the inconvenience of having a case opened or the "embarrassment" of being taken to a register or required to provide identification and a signature that's forever in the DEA database as if you are an addict or a drug dealer! Get Over It!
Unfortunately that's the world we live in today, thanks to all of the thieves and drug dealers!
In closing, items being locked up by a retailer are due to theft and/or misuse, NOT due to discrimination. If that were true, everyone that needs a shave, has allergies, or wants to use "earbuds" would have a law suit against the retail industry in general!

Racist jokes about watermelon and chicken aren't racist?

Depends, was Dave Chappelle's watermelon joke racist? Or was it simply Racial, and you can't tell the difference?

And who said anything about chicken?!?

Mocking how people talk isn't ray-cist?

Not necessarily, but who did this? Again I ask you, what did I say that was offensive? You quoted me, you insulted me, baselessly.

All we were doing is mocking people like you who cry "racist!" at goddamn everything and anything.

Your overcompensation in this post is a bit strange...

I'd say its spot on for people who cry wolf like you.

Here's what I think and what I came by by following my own advise. What alread the little attention whore is doing is using a black person to play racial politics in the court system.

If I own a store and there is something I am losing to theft, I have a right to lock that **** up no matter what the color. Now if alred can convince a jury that they only locked it up because of racist views she can show that by getting loss reports on items from that walmart. However walmart will most likely show, that the items were locked up simply due to items being stolen more than others. I've said that in this thread and have been posting on topic.

Usually if you want to attack a poster like this, you should comment on the topic so you don't simply look like you are having a fit at a poster. Thanks!

Clearly discrimination. Just like the discrimination against men. My razors have been under lock and key for years. Place Shave Club advertisement here.

A compelling and convincing argument, I suppose you're another blind hammer, one that finds everyone to be a nail (racist/sexist/homophobic)

Its so rare to actually meet the butt of a joke.

I'm sure we can at least count on Verax to come to our defense as men! Equality right? Otherwise... she might feel awfully "embarrassed" by her hypocrisy.

He does, he's one of the ones who makes it up and pretends to know things when he doesn't.

However in this case he's right, the plainly racist "jokes" are inappropriate in this setting and uncalled for.

If you are not using a safety razor, you are shaving like a girl, and getting ripped off. :pimpdaddy:

Context. Racist jokes are a hoot among friends of various races and cultures. Some of the funniest **** is talking racial smack with latinos, blacks, italians, irish, chinese, et all etc as they throw them at you. it's something fun to do among friends. A person of said race making fun of his own racial stereotypes is accepted in society as well. Making racist jokes on an anonymous forum makes you look like an actual racist.

Verax does indeed love to pretend and cry wolf, but this time he is absolutely correct.

TIL I shave like a girl. Not sure about ripped off, the safety razors look pricy and I would bet my razor spending for the year is under $40. I travel quite a bit and I am willing to rip the hair out of my face with the single use razor from the front desk. I takes a man to do that.
