"The U.S. has dropped to eighth place in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Countries” ranking."

It's pretty hard to be a "shining city on a hill" when everyone is looking down on you. The best form of leadership is to lead by example. When everyone is laughing and face palming at the example you're trying to set you don't have a chance. How exactly are we supposed to convince people around the world that capitalism and democracy are good things when they've obviously lead so such a **** storm of terribleness?

Time for Trump supporters to wake up to the reality that being a condescending and verbally abusive bully might make you feel good, but it's not an effective leadership strategy. It may get you elected if you focus your abuse on just the right people, but once your in charge you've burned so many bridges you can't accomplish anything.

Reagan called it a shining city on a hill because of all the gold and jewels we were handing out to the world at U.S. taxpayer expense. Maybe all these illegal immigrants will stop coming here and move to Europe where they'll be embraced with open arms and cradle to grave welfare.

If they were jealous and wanted what we had they would look at what we did to accomplish it, and follow our lead. The only people in the world that are following Trump's lead are racist **** heads.

When the world looks down on you they are not going to copy you. You cannot lead people who have no respect for you. Capitalism is clearly not accomplishing anything close to what most of your so-called "socialist" countries are doing with ease.

That is precisely why Reagan called it that. It was one of the most amazing speeches of my lifetime.

And that's about all I have to say tonight, except for one thing. The past few days when I've been at that window upstairs, I've thought a bit of the "shining city upon a hill." The phrase comes from John Winthrop, who wrote it to describe the America he imagined. What he imagined was important because he was an early Pilgrim, an early freedom man. He journeyed here on what today we'd call a little wooden boat; and like the other Pilgrims, he was looking for a home that would be free.

I've spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don't know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall, proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, windswept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace; a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That's how I saw it, and see it still.
