McConnell offers an olive branch to re-open the government, but will it be enough?

Okay, let's go with "what Trump ran on." No wall funding, because "what Trump ran on" was that Mexico would pay for it.

he didnt say HOW though, did he....

and there have been discussions about a fee/tax on all money transfers going south

if we tax all outgoing payments, it will take 5-6 years to pay for the wall @ a 5-6% fee rate

democrats wont even discuss

Yeah, actually he did. He was going to increase tariffs on imported goods.

That is a rocking song. Thanks!!!

Had to show the lyrics- the other video was about a robbery so that was a no go.

And they make some fine music

It wasn't legal trouble. I had rampant hormones. Medivac Crewchief on a base with a lot of female trainees. What could go wrong? Let's just leave it at that.

Heheh. Hey, some of my friends here screw around with different people every other week. :2razz:

not at what they offered before....

you arent getting DACA for 1.6b which was already authorized back in '06

the wall is what Trump ran on...do you really think he is going to capitulate on that?

so the funding has to majorly improve....

It doesn't matter what Trump ran on. A wall is stupid and wasteful. I'm not going to be ok with wasting half a trillion dollars to satisfy that man's ego. Are you?

The wall will cost more than Trump says it will. A lot more.

Is it just me or have we started referring to CR's as the way the budget is supposed to get done? The chance of ever getting to balanced budgets seems pretty far fetched if we can't get one done at all.

No surprise, the last thing the federal government wants is to be forced to balance their budget. They want to be able to spend our money without restrictions. We've been told that deficits and debt don't matter. Sure, that never matters when you are spending someone else's money.

Don't look for a balanced budget amendment anytime soon, at least from Congress.

i think we can afford to BEEF UP security on our southern border, including a partial wall

i think we can do it for around 18-20 billion total

and i dont expect the american people to pay for it all....

all we have to do is enact a small fee on every money transaction heading south

5-6% of the 80 billion or so that leaves our country for places south

would take about 5 years to pay for all the security issues and the partial wall....

and mexico and her citizens would be the ones who pay the majority of the bill

I say we build the wall, then put a super high speed monorail on top of it. That way, the Democrats will vote for it too! (And have the train's toilets empty on the Mexican side)

Now it's a partial wall! Progress, I suppose.

A tax on money "going south" is making Americans pay for it. Where do you think tax money comes from, leprechauns?

most of the money going south is NOT from americans

and it isnt going to support american citizens

it is leaving our economy to prop up some other family in a far away place....and because we will never see the benefit of that money again, a small fee is needed

you guys understand taxes and fees....you usually LOVE them

so we tax money leaving the USA for points south....a small token expense for sending american dollars to columbia, mexico, brazil, and all other points south

Right now...I'd say funding the government is far more important than DACA.

They can't walk and chew gum at the same time? Seems like there is more to it when we know that the majority of Republican Senators support a DACA deal.

What ever happens, they need a comprehensive deal that ends the issue... Implement a pathway to citizenship/greencard for DACA members... and stop illegal immigration... and if they are too unreasonable... I would continue the shutdown for months...

They don't want to do that, illegal immigration is a shiny object they dangle in front of their constituency to distract them while they allow the rich rape teh country. This, along with abortion, has been going on forever. Stupid distractions with fictional, overblown problem to scapegoat. It's ridiculous. Ridding the country of all illegals will not improve American lives as they are not the cause of the problems, no matter what BS Fox news and republican politicians claim.

There are a hell of a lot other issues that are causing it. We need to stop being distracted by the stupid things

Except that the spending bill had nothing to do with DACA. If it had then you might have a point. But it doesn't. So you don't.

Legal immigrants send money to their families. They live here. You're proposing a tax on people who live here. You don't think that comes out of our economy? Every dollar in these "fees" represents one less dollar the sender has to spend here. They're usually sending money to their families in other nations. Families that need the money. Tightening the belt will come from the spending here.

Oh, and if you were so worried about these transactions, I might point out that the money wouldn't go back to Mexico if their families were here instead :)

regardless it is what should happen... advocating for the opposite is rather...intentionally counter productive lol

This is the last time Democrats will allow McConnell to break his word, with the Nation now fully focused on McConnellism and Stephen Miller ...

Why is it you have to make everything political and partisan? Congressional Representatives are spineless weasels on both sides of the isle. Submit a bill, vote on it without strings, send it to the President, then you can react AFTERWARDS. A budget bill should be an up or down vote with no riders for anything outside the budget. Congress is doing nothing to lower the political, partisan rhetoric and activity in Congress today thus not doing their job, BOTH SIDES. You on the other hand are purely partisan as every anti Trump thread has you participating. This isn't a Trump issue, this is a Congressional issue.

You act as if this is the first time in history that an unrelated bill is attached as part of another bill....and knowing your interest in politics, I can't believe that you would actually believe such a thing.

Nope, its not. Nor am I trying to pretend otherwise. I've stated previously that Republican's are just as guilty for doing the same thing. But just because one group does it that doesn't excuse the other group doing it also. Neither side should be attaching bills to unrelated bills. This is a problem that we've had for some time. In those occasional thread that pop up asking "what would you do if you were president" one answer that I use is I would refuse to sign any bill that was over 10 pages long and only addressed single issues. That would force our officials to only add what was needed. Well...hopefully. Such a move may very well rile them all up and get them to use their override powers.....which might be a good thing...;)
