Republican lawmaker settled harassment complaint with former staffer: report | TheHill

Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Meehan (R), a member of the House Ethics Committee, used taxpayer dollars to settle a sexual harassment claim made by a former staffer, according to a Saturday report.

Meehan reportedly settled the claim for an undisclosed amount paid out of his congressional office fund, The New York Times reported. The fund allows payments to be disguised as salary and reported months later, but the Times reported the sum is likely in the thousands.

Meehan, a married father of three who has been involved in investigations into at least four lawmakers for similar claims in recent months, was accused of professing romantic desires to a staffer after she became involved in a relationship with someone outside Meehan's office. Meehan, who is decades older than his accuser, allegedly grew hostile when she did not accept his romantic overtures.
Another one and a member on the Ethics Committee to boot.
Wonder how this will turn out.

If true then he should resign.

If it turns out to be true, that he used tax payer funds to settle a personal harassment case against himself, then how it turns out should be clear - with his resignation, and him paying back the tax payers - IMHO.

Yep- agreed.

Funny.

When many Republicans take a fall, it's so easy to beat on them. They beat on everyone else, extolling their superiority, your inferiority, and their right to impress their mores upon you, all in the name of God of course. And then when it's eventually shown they are no better, or even worse, it is so hard to not give them a kick for being the a-holes they often are.

Yep- he was removed from the ethics committee- he is going down and not in the way he fantasized about.

Again with the "I can't keep my pants up/hands to myself" fund. :doh

They still haven't clamped down on that special little fund of theirs?

Don't get so high and mighty. Remember John Conyers.
