Federal government shuts down after Senate talks fail

I wonder how long it's going to take for Republicans to come to sense with the fact that they blew their "reconciliation" load on "tax reform." They alone put themselves in this situation. Had they saved reconciliation for this, they could have passed a one-year CR with a simple majority vote. But then again, taking responsibility is not something that the Republicans have been able to do in quite some time.

Tax reform was needed and the results have been nothing less than astounding.

You told me I'm drinking Democrat Kool-Aid. I said that doesn't make any sense because I am blaming the Democrats (and the Republicans) for the shutdown. This isn't supposed to be hard.

I doubt these Women Marches are making our GOP friends feel comfortable !

That's my point. Mexico was never going to pay for anything. They straight up told us that before we elected this tool. A whole bunch of idiots believed him anyway (not all of his voters, I will say). Now here we are. With the president stomping his feet about his wall and the Democrats holding the cookie jar just outside his tiny reach.

My complete apology!

I misread your original post in conjunction with some others and laid into you.

I m truly sorry.

It has become an election issue in Mexico. If anyone agrees to pay even one $, they will be run out of office.

I suspect he's going to pull a fast one and leverage changes in NAFTA as "paying for the wall". However I believe he is stunned at the push back. The words spoken by Canada at end of the first meeting were the closest to hostile in our 150 years. No foreign affairs minister has even had such hard words for the US.

Now here is a danger, as Trump leaps from headline to headline, subject to subject what was serious ten days ago is forgotten today. All indicators are that Trump has softened on his stand and now says he believes a deal can be done.

What we need to see in this is that our foreign affairs minister wasn't speaking to Americans, nor Canadians so much as she was speaking to our other allies. Soon after that, the US lost a vote at the UN, with Canada voting against the US for the first time in history.

Now look at his promise to have Mexico pay for the wall and how that fits with his other promise to "tear up" NAFTA. Even more importantly, look at the deteriorating relations with Canada and Mexico, and Canada and Mexico announcing they will stand together.

They have control of Govt. and that is the problem. They are incapable of governing. Who was leader of the Senate last time Govt. was shut down?

Shutdown 18: October 1 to 17, 2013
President: Barack Obama
Senate: Democrats (54-46), Majority Leader Harry Reid
House: Republicans (232-200), Speaker John Boehner

Have you learned to admit when you are wrong yet?

Was a bailout of the top 1% worth blowing your reconciliation card?

If that was you laying into me, I'm not sure you're very scary. Hahah. His administration has already said that they will use indirect ways of getting Mexico's money, e.g., trade, tariffs, etc. Where can I see what your foreign affairs minister said at that meeting? I just realized that Mick Mulvaney said this morning that the government somehow found enough money to continue the NAFTA talks during the shutdown. Probably not a coincidence.

All of it. It is all BS.

While talking about languishing discussions to attach a DACA compromise and border security to the government-funding bill that is due Friday, McConnell suggested that the White House had failed to even make its demands known.

“I'm looking for something that President Trump supports, and he has not yet indicated what measure he is willing to sign,” McConnell said. “As soon as we figure out what he is for, then I would be convinced that we were not just spinning our wheels.”

Sure, ok. The Kool-Aid is poisoned. You know that, right?

The immediate issue before congress is the funding of the government, not DACA. Now, you may agree with the dems trying to ram the issue through on the funding bill, but you cant deny that that is what is happening and why the government has shut down. Do you recall why the government shut down in 2013?

Watch for the women's vote in the 18 election- will be a deciding factor in a number of close races. Member me saying last year the house would be in play? 41 R in Blue states, 35 at one time or another voted against the tax bill. In the end enough voted for, and the majority of them will pay the price in the 18 House election

Denver's was thrilling. It's still going on, but I came home to save the world on DP.

I miss your state and the 4-corners. I'm plotting a Zephyr Amtrak.

The latest GOP assclown spinner is shortstroke marky short.

This is still about McConnellism finally melting down ...

The Democrats are not trying to ram anything. The president told them to include DACA in the bill.

And DEM candidates like Danica Roem in Virginia won because they ran on local issues, like the dangerous road in her HD that's been a problem for decades. DEMs must develop their 'Real Deal' to compliment their voter base being activated.

We saw the so-called 'black belt' vote in Alabama; in this new era of 'Black Women' being energized to vote, even though Jones carried only one CD; that's how bad Alabama's maps are.

This brings up the 142 remaps on the line in 2018/2020. If DEMs aren't able to activate their so-called 'Brown Base', they will remain the minority party ...
