Trump tweets DACA 'probably dead' - CNN today

And neither of which has anything to do with either DACA OR the wall.

Then there is no deal for DACA supposedly

Can't have everything one way.

And since when did that ever matter? Every single deal that comes out of politicians includes something that has nothing to do with the original need.

Why would he do that when the blame is clearly Durbin, Pelosi, Schumer, and Graham.

Well, I haven't been keeping score but it seems he blames everything else that goes wrong on Obama. It's either a personality thing or a racial thing. Given DJT's record on equal opportunity housing in NYC & his recent vulgar comments, I'd bet on the latter.

That's today.

If you were watching the NAFTA talks through a less biased lens, you would see Trump at his cagey best. In recent days he is throwing our hints he's willing to accept compromise, when he had been steadfast of "no concessions". There is a pattern. I have yet to determine if this is strategic, reduce expectations at the outset, then appear to become more reasonable.

It's a tactic that might get you an additional $.25 per cubic yard of concrete, but at the international level I suspect there's some reality down the road he's going to have to add to the "never happened" file in his spacious brain
"Specious"

Just thought I'd correct your spelling! :2razz:

Well, the 'bi-paritsan' agreement included 1.6 billion for the wall, so yeah.

Since the wall we're talking about would cost in the neighborhood of 200 billion dollars, that is obviously not the wall in question. Which is moot because trump has appeared to shut down the negotiation in total over DACA anyway. Though it should be said that he changes his mind based on whatever he last watched on tv, so who knows what he'll think five minutes from now.

Curious how long the shut down will last before someone caves
That will depend upon which way the winds of public perception blow.

Like yourself, I honestly don't know. But I'm leaning towards Trump & the GOP blinking first ...

Dems for once are going to be forced to give real border security, or they don't get what they want....no more amnesty first, with the promise of security later, that never comes....good

Hey, a much cheaper alternative to the fence would be mine fields. The U.S. never gave up on land mines, claiming an exception for Korea

but it appears to be common knowledge that they are used in the perimeter defense around Guantanamo Bay in Cuba also

Why not in Texas, AZ & NM? Save millions of $$$. We have plenty in stock in Army munitions depots, price marked down for the holidays. And think of all the jobs that would be created making the many thousands of warning signs that would read 'Campo de Minas'.

That's actually a pretty good question.

I'm think going with, "Protestant & Bible-based".

Or more 'lying narcissistic hypocrite' who owns a bible & goes to church to get his picture taken for the evening news.

First, it quotes Fred Trump. Second, back in the 70's it was common for MANY real estate businesses to discriminate. It wasn't right, but it wasn't uncommon.

I hate when people bring up **** from years ago, as if the person would do it today. It has everything to do with how society was THEN, not NOW.

If the “**** from years ago” can be traced as part of a behavioral pattern, what happened THEN can be traced up to NOW and be established as a recurring event.

You can't get a leopard to change its spots no matter how long you wait.

You forgot,

"and Christian"

Yes, and Sunday-go-to-meeting types as well. Even the ones who handle serpents. Bet they all voted for DJT.

Well in that case I'm never voting for Fred Trump to be president!

You will indeed be waiting a long time for that chance.

Yes, indeed. How does that quoted testimony go? "First he put his hand on my..."

How it was then was wrong, which is why people fought to change it. If it was normal and right, then that aspect of society would have remained static.

The reason trump has basically no leverage here is because there are two tangible issues at stake that people grasp beyond the mere abstract principle of "border security": the wall and DACA. People know how they feel about these things, and the overwhelming majority of the public has concluded that the wall is idiotic and that kicking people who've lived here since childhood out of the country is cruel. You're free to believe that the wall is necessary and that we should totally kick the little bastards out, but that would put you in the shallow end of public opinion.

And people also favor tighter border security, and tighter restrictions on legal immigration.
Trump has said he will sign off on DACA.

Shutting down the government due to a refusal to compromise over non citizens will benefit the Dems?

Except of course that the majority of people in the US also want secure borders along with amnesty for DACA recipients. So if Democrats force a government shutdown because they won't work on that at the same time they work on DACA then it will entirely be their fault and will be blamed for it.

Yes, the majority of thinking people do not hold it against those involved in DACA for their parents failures to honor our laws.
And yes the majority of thinking people want the borders secured and the practice of capture and release ended and want immediate deportation. They want reform to visa programs like lotteries ended while enforcing our visa laws where 40% who are currently here illegally came into this country on some kind of visa that has expired.

This isn't just the the thinking of some on the right side of the aisle but there is some support on the left side of the aisle for the same things.

What the gang of 6 or 8 (whatever) presented to Trump was a huge package for amnesty not just for DACA but those here from El Salvador and Haiti that were allowed here FOR A TIME during crisis in their countries.

If the left is interested in not deporting those here on DACA then they need to come forward and meet the President halfway addressing border security which includes funding for the wall and serious reform to the visa programs.

Trump wants to allow those in DACA to remain as he sees it as being fair and is why he has not overturned Obama's EO which was unconstitutional hoping Congress would do the right thing and correct it. But evidently there are those at that meeting that were not there in good faith.

If he signs off on DACA and doesn't demand an eighty zillion dollar wall then there almost certainly won't be a shutdown. And if there is a shutdown and you're unclear on why that would work to Democrats' advantage then re-read the post you quoted in order to understand why.

Trump tweets DACA is 'probably Dead" - CNNPolitics

(CNN) President Donald Trump again blamed Democrats on Sunday for the stall in talks over a potential immigration deal as the threat of a government shutdown looms this Friday.

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military," Trump tweeted Sunday morning.
In a second tweet a few minutes later, he wrote: "I, as President, want people coming into our Country who are going to help us become strong and great again, people coming in through a system based on MERIT. No more Lotteries! #AMERICA FIRST."
Trump's tweets came just hours after his administration resumed receiving renewal applications for "Dreamers" under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program following a federal court order blocking the administration from ending the program.
The program has protected undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children from being deported. The administration announced the end of DACA in September, with recipients beginning to lose their status in early March.
=====================================================================
What surprises me about this is that he didn't blame it on Obama.

Excellent news ! DACA was illegal and the Democrats never had any intention of agreeing to a bipartisan plan to address immigration.

If DACA's dead, its on them
