'Good taste' is a matter of taste. Legislators should steer well clear if any such notion. Although if they wanted to make the wearing of droopy trousers (US: pants) a criminal offence .....

Have you seen some of the crazy laws on the books around the country? I stand by my statement.

I think what you are seeing is some divergence or scattering of views, as Democrats have tended toward populist views, seeking wide approval, rather than basing decisions on principles. This results in a lot of positions that don't make sense on a normal political spectrum, and can be a long way from a traditional liberal/socialist perspective.

Perhaps.

I tend to think that the controlling factions of the party have moved it to the right, at least in some respects.

Sure, they've been pushing some liberal social positions, but on many other fronts that is not the case.
