US President Donald Trump says he has cancelled his trip to London because of a "bad deal" over the relocation of the American embassy. Mr Trump had been expected to travel to the British capital next month to open the embassy, which will move from Grosvenor Square to Nine Elms. He took to Twitter to explain why he called off the visit, which had sparked fears of mass protests and would have been his first to the UK as President.

"I am not a big fan of the Obama administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for 'peanuts', only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars," Mr Trump said.

Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!

Fake News Mr President, it was actually George Bush, not Obama, who made the decision to move the embassy from Grosvenor Square to Nine Elms in Battersea in 2008, over security fears.

Hey, he's a super genius.

Obviously you're not smart enough to grasp what he said.

The last part of his tweet is especially cringeworthy.

Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!

He sounds like a three year old throwing a tantrum.

The embassy deal that George W. Bush made?

The man is even more ignorant than I have been giving him credit for.

He cancelled his trip because he knows our closest ally thinks he's a piece of crap.

That's how we all know it's actually Trump making the tweet, and not some aid doing it "accidentally".

Changing the conversation from s***hole to cancelling his trip with another stupid tweet just proves he's nuts.

He really should fire some of his aides, because it's not like he picked up the phone and cancelled himself. Someone should have informed him beforehand that it was Bush, not Obama who initiated this and not to cancel. Now if his aides told him this and he STILL decided to cancel and use that reason, he's even more a dumb**** that I thought.

Exactly. His ego can't handle dealing with it in person.

Trump simply does not want the public humiliation of going to visit our number ally country and being the center of protests and outrage directed at him. I am sure he vividly remembers those scenes of Obama being received in Europe like the Second Coming of Christ and just about everything he does is motivated by Obama. He simply could not take that humiliation.

And for him to blame Obama for the move that was started by Bush - is just another narcissistic mentally delusional lie told by this severely disturbed and damaged disgrace of a man.

He doesn’t listen, except to the good Judge Napolitano or his senior Fox advisor, Steve Doocy!

Where does he claim that it was Obama that made the decision to move the embassy? What's that got to do with "selling it for peanuts"?

Reading comprehension, folks.

Fake news indeed.

Bush made the decision to move the embassy.

It was built during the Obama administration. Ground for the building was broken in 2013.

To be fair, though, the process of this change goes back well before either president.

The architects, in my opinion, should be shot. (figuratively speaking)

Nice try. Here's the quote:

Apparently Napolitano is now one of his Chief Advisors. Trump's Twitter screw up yesterday was because he did what Napolitano instructed him to do on Fox and Friends yesterday morning. Paul Ryan had to run interference and then Trump had to issue a second Tweet.

God help us all.

@SadiqKhan
Many Londoners have made it clear that Donald Trump is not welcome here while he is pursuing such a divisive agenda. It seems he’s finally got that message.

Half a billion dollars is peanuts for a leasehold building?

Not only that but there were very good security concerns to move the embassy. But what is worse, is that the meeting was on schedule to happen. Is Trump telling us that nobody knew before today that the real estate was sold?

Let's face it, Trump's a national embarrassment and he isn't welcome in London.

Theresa May is said to be very disappointed. She was so looking forward to a spell, however brief, of being the second most hated politician in the country.
