President Trump on Thursday accused an FBI agent who criticized him while serving on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team of committing “treason” against the U.S.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump argued that FBI agent Peter Strzok had plotted to undermine his presidency before he even came into office.

Strzok was once a key figure in the 2016 FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified material. He was removed from the special counsel investigation into Russia's election meddling after it was discovered he exchanged anti-Trump text messages during the investigation with fellow FBI agent Lisa Page, with whom he was reportedly having an affair.

In one of those text exchanges, Strzok says that there’s “no way” Trump gets elected but that if he does there needs to be an “insurance policy” in place because “we can’t take that risk."

“A man is tweeting to his lover that if [Clinton] loses, we’ll essentially do the insurance policy,” Trump said in The Wall Street Journal interview. “'We’ll go to phase two and we’ll get this guy out of office.'”

“This is the FBI we’re talking about — that is treason,” Trump continued. “That is a treasonous act. What he tweeted to his lover is a treasonous act.”

Pretty messed up that the President would accuse someone of treason.

Pretty messed up that many in the press in the public have all but said the same about our president and his son. What this FBI nut may well be deemed an attempted coup, which some could call treason.

A little different for the President of the United States to do it...

If that was the case then they'd be having a trial. Clearly you think based on two texts that this person should be thrown in prison.

No, but I do think that he should be interviewed by law enforcement. If he is part of some type of conspiracy then he might have bigger problems.

Just for the record, it's not worth debating whether the FBI agent in question actually committed treason just because this babbling asshole said so. Everybody here knows the accusation is the creation of a diseased mind, and we can all be good to ourselves by not pretending it merits serious discussion.

Just to be clear, Strzok was stating that the FBI shouldn't drop its investigation of Trump's involvement with the Russians just because it was unlikely Trump would win the election.

Of course Trump would think that's treason, and of course it isn't actually treason (unless you believe that it's treasonous to conduct an FBI investigation into illegal activities of the president).

Good so I hope that you apply the same standard to all the people that have said trump has committed treason.

Depends on what else is known about the man, because if he is one of the ones that has been leaking information to the public that is treason. Especially considering his position and the extra standings that his position affords.

Though unfortunately, the texting does seem bad for the man.
He may not actually get tried for treason, but he will be lucky to come out of this with his job and a clean record.

The FBI and CIA both can be pretty hard on their people when certain actions have been taken.

As is too often is the case these days President Trump has no idea what he is talking about.

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

No treason was committed by Strzok as the USA is not formally at war with any nation and Strzok did not use violence or support any other party in using violence against the American state. President Trump has confused himself with the American state and investigation with acts of war.

Cheers.
Evilroddy.

No, thats absurd. The FBI doesn't just abandon criminal investigtions because a candidate lost or was expected to lose.

Reports are Peter Sztrok was not only fired from Mueller's team, but demoted from Counter intelligence to human rescources.
That happened for a reason, and it wasn't because Sztrok had a Political preference

Nearly every time trump speaks he proves he is unfit to be President, some have always known this, others will never admit it, and some are learning the hard way, the sooner trump is past history the better off this Nation will be.

Peter Strzok should take Trump's advice about libel laws and sue Trump for libel.

If the media and their talking potato heads can use hyperbole when talking about the President, why can't he use hyperbole when talking about criminals?

I see this as another example of media hypocrisy.

So, an FBI agent is "a criminal" because he didn't want Trump to win the presidential election? If you believe that, your ideology has taken a deep trip down the fascist rabbit hole. The fact that Trump believes that someone is guilty of treason because they didn't support him is a clear display of Trump's tyrannical tendencies.

I could just imagine what the Trump cult would have said if Obama declared that government employees who don't vote for him in 2012 are guilty of treason.

Before this is all over Sztrok will become a hero of the Left ( if he isn't already ).
Why was Strzok removed from Mueller's team and removed from his counter intelliegence position ?

Was it just because he texted mean things about Donald Trump ?

No.

An FBI agent is "a criminal" because he targeted an American citizen and misused the power of the federal government for his own political purposes. That happens to be illegal.

However, don't be naive enough to think that Strzok is the only one. He certainly didn't work alone.

Strzok was removed from Mueller's team to remove any hint of bias. Strzok committed no crime. FBI agents are citizens who are entitled to have their own politics.

Strzok committed no crime. He expressed his opinion on his private communications, which (for now) is protected under our constitution.

Not just thrown in prison but face the death penalty! It's extreme.
