After Florida Gets Offshore Drilling Exemption, Other States Ask For The Same

The exemptions given to BP for Deepwater Horizon in 2009 have literally nothing at all, zero, zilch, nada to do with Zinke allowing Florida, and only Florida, to opt out of changes about offshore drilling announced by Zinke.

It's a classic diversion now on roughly 100% of threads involving Trump - BUT CLINTON!!! or BUT OBAMA!!!

Just trying to educate and open some very narrow minds.

Knowledge is always a good thing.

LOL. Picking unrelated "BUT OBAMA!!!" topics to divert from discussing anything negative about Trump or his minions is not to "educate" the rest of us - it's a diversion. It gets tiring, and you've had no comment at all on the actual OP which is no surprise. Why not "educate" us on the ACTUAL topic?

Excellent call out.

My brother lives in Clearwater Beach - the BP spill decimated their fishing and tourism industries for quite some time.
Offshore Drilling is bad, as corporate greed always causes problems. Always.

Do you drive a car?

6) Destroys local economies when spill occurs and drilling companies are unprepared and cut corners on safety.

Local economies boom because of the work brought into the state.

Do you drive a car?

I do and I am able to get gas for it without the new offshore rigs. Must be other sources available than off beaches of the United States! It's a miracle!

Let's put a little perspective on that. Nationwide about 60,000 are employed in all oil and gas welling operations. In Florida alone there are over 1.1 million tourism related jobs.

Right or wrong, some states like the GOP dominated state of Florida and its GOP Governor believe offshore rigs put those tourism related jobs at risk, which they do when there are major spills, as we know from history.

Your source is bull****. It doesn't account for the industries that support oilfield operations: mechanics, parts suppliers, service companies, grocery suppliers, fuel suppliers, welders, machine shops, the list is almost endless. And, those jobs pay more than the guy renting surfboards to tourists.

Do you eat? Burn electricity? Use plastics?

Fine, provide your own data. I'm willing to learn.

But "nuh uhh!!!" isn't an actual rebuttal.

Also the environment, so there's that.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Is this a 50 questions exercise or do you have a point relevant to the OP?

Your source only counts people that actually work for drilling companies. It doesn't include people employed in direct and indirect support of those drilling operations. Common sense dictates that there are more than 60,000 jobs linked to the oil and gas industry.

And we wouldn't want more oil spills now, would we?

There haven't been enough to make it a problem.

The Chinese are already drilling in the North Cuba Basin and have been for years. When American companies want to drill off Florida's coast, it's a problem?

I don't think protecting the environment is the priority; it's stifling the private sector that's the priority.
