Wallace: White House Staffers Were Told to 'Play Ball,' Talk to Michael Wolff for Book | Fox News Insider

"Fox News Sunday" anchor Chris Wallace said Friday that White House staffers were directed to "play ball" and talk to author Michael Wolff for his tell-all book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House."

Questions have now arisen over why Wolff was allowed into the White House and granted so much access for the critical portrayal of the administration.

President Trump said Wolff was not granted access and never spoke to him about the book, accusing the author of making up stories.

Interesting turn on this story. Who is actually running the WH? Did they deliberately bring this on themselves?

Fake Nooz!!!

I'll get this out of the way first: the President contradicts himself frequently, is for something one minute, against it the next.

That being said, in the earliest months of the administration (especially notable with Priebus) was a complete lack of hierarchy, ground rules, or trust between staff. Priebus couldn't control the revolving door of the Oval Office, felt like he had to be at the President's side constantly, lest something go wrong, and would try to micromanage everything else. You also had reports that the President would have staffers battle with one another, not so much to debate or come to a resolution on an issue of substance, but rather for the sake of seeing the chaos that resulted.

What Wolff may have captured that's slightly different, however, is the extent to which one group or the other would do their own set of contradictory orders. Wolff uses Walsh to state that Bannon, Kushner, and Priebus would not only not coordinate activities, but would go out of their way to basically nullify whatever order staffers received. Instead of getting anywhere, you basically had three guys changing the radio station in the car on a constant basis.

So, yeah, it was fair to question who was actually running the White House in those months.

Put this administration out of it's misery.

It's like a blind horse with four broken legs.

General Kelly has been AWOL recently.....

hmmm. Something smells fishy here. Trump may have wanted this after all. The man loves chaos and this chaos is a way out.

They were trying to right the ship at every turn, and keep Trump from imploding it from within, as it was clear early on he was too incompetent/dangerous to really be in charge.

The truth is that Trumps image as a man of intellect is forever gone. In Wolfs book he's illustrated as a man devoid of any intelligence, with no self-control, no sense of the responsibility of his position, zero ability to manage his own affairs, and has a hopelessly feeble mind.

But we already knew that.

Trump is the Distractor-in-Chief. When all else fails, change the subject & send out a tweet storm.

Of course, Trump wanted the mosh pit, he set things up that way because that is the environment that he likes to work in and because that is how he thinks the best ideas rise to the top....Trump is a big believe in the Arena for the Combat of Ideas.

We did not need Wolffs book to know this, and there is pretty much no chance that Wolff allows Trumps vision to have a hearing.....it did not work and a lot of people said at the jump that it would not work but the chaos at the start of the WH was not accidental, it was on purpose.

We need to keep in mind too that the WH Wolff talks about is not the WH we have now, Trump changed course when the first plan did not work, as Trump always does, The Generals run the shop now.

On thing that I find interesting is that it was Bannon who was doing most of the leaking, which does not surprise me, but Trump should have known, Bannon should have been fired much sooner, that was a major Trump error.

Could be signs of the onset of dementia. Time for a 25th A palace coup?

Sure, but I think what a lot of reporting and more vividly (if it is to be believed) Wolff has shown that the captain-less ship extended to a lack of organization from the rest of the shipmates as well.

An absolute rookie mistake.

This is a perfect example how they are swimming in sand.

They had no effective communications director the person who would background the reporters who want access. It appears without officially saying so, Trump claimed that area his own and appointed an echo with legs.

The level of un-professionalism in this administration is galling. I have covered Northern Territorial governments with more media savvy. It reminds me of the time as a rookie reporter I got an interview with the new mayor, a self involved money bags who, during a taped interview in front of his supporters said such things as "the first thing we'll do is take care of our friends..." and then try to blame me.

Nor does the White House understand that everything they do and say is under the largest microscope in the world. Not even the martyrdom of JFK has kept thew truth of his funders, women and so forth from coming out.

I have a feeling when this is over the Trump Family will be much more reserved about publicity

Not a chance. I wouldn't entertain it beyond an intellectual exercise.

Best bet now for Trump is to resign. Honestly if he resigns now, he can still bow out gracefully yelling at Bannon the whole time.

Trump probably leaked more than Bannon did in his whiny phone calls to his acquaintances.

Yeah, the rest of them don't come off as particularly wise either.

They all come off as having no direction, and not really being able to execute any effective agenda -- sometimes no agenda at all. Everybody wants to do the opposite of their rival, which leads to constant conflict and dysfunction that cripples them from getting anything done at all.

"I have the greatest people.........."

So much for judge of character.

Just about every myth about this "real estate genius" is unfolding as false. He isn't bright at all, easily distracted, incompetent and a poor judge of character. I guy like Bannon would never had made into the Bush White House, Obama either.

It appears he filled the sinking ship with enough rats the crew left.

I agree with Jonathan Tobin about "loose talk of the 25th Amendment":

The spectacle of psychiatrists stepping forward to diagnose the president from a distance — as one group touted by House Democrats has done — is a bad political joke. The 25th Amendment was intended to provide for a replacement when a president couldn’t serve, not to dump a man whose behavior offends the sensibilities of the educated class, as Trump has done.

This isn’t the first time the Left has sought to use psychiatry for political purposes. But even if you think Trump is a bit loopy when compared with Barry Goldwater, who also got the crazy treatment from the mainstream liberal press, the proper response to a president you don’t like is to campaign against him, not to lobby that he be certified insane.
