Orrin Hatch, Utah Senator to Retire, Opening Path for Mitt Romney

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/02/u...ney-trump.html

Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, the longest-serving Senate Republican, announced Tuesday that he will retire at the end of the year, rebuffing personal pleas from President Trump to seek an eighth term and paving the way for Mitt Romney, a critic of Mr. Trumpís, to run for the seat.

This might cause issues for Trump's next pick for the USSC given Hatch's expertise as chair of the Judiciary committee

It does open up an opportunity for Romney.

There is a fair possibility of it. The lower court judges are almost as important.

    Is a RBG retirement expected?

I agree that picking judges is a way of anchoring your political power.

I will make a gentlemen's bet with you that Trump will get at least one more and most likely two more picks before 2020 is over

Was Hatch involved in helping with the Gorsuch pick? I thought Grassley was the Senator who spearheaded helping Trump with the pick. I know Hatch was chair awhile ago, but I don't recall Hatch being particularly involved in the process last year. I could certainly be forgetting.
There should be Instant Runoff Voting

Kennedy and? I don't think RBG or Breyer would willingly leave with Trump in office. I guess I've always heard thirdhand rumblings that Thomas may want to retire early.

Ah, the guy who ran on term limits apparently meant 40 year term limits. Not much of a limit if you ask me.
