The Trump administration has decided to withhold millions in military aid to Pakistan as the president accuses the Muslim-majority nation of harboring terrorists and telling “lies” to the United States.“The United States does not plan to spend the $255 million in [Fiscal Year] 2016 Foreign Military Financing for Pakistan at this time,” a National Security Council official told Fox News on Monday.
The official added, “The president has made clear that the United States expects Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorists and militants on its soil, and that Pakistan’s actions in support of the South Asia Strategy will ultimately determine the trajectory of our relationship, including future security assistance.”
The Trump administration will continue to “review Pakistan’s level of cooperation,” the official said.

It's about frickin time.....For at least a decade now I have been questioning Pakistan's actual loyality to us as an supposed ally...

Trump is our 1st President with common sense in decades. No more diplomatic pc crap that did nothing but allowed our enemies to get stronger while the American taxpayer paid the price.

Agree with Trump on this one. It's a damn shame we have to rely on Pakistan to be an ally in the region.

Agreed. They still haven't given us an adequate explanation as to how the most wanted man in the world could live near an army base unnoticed.

Nothing here is really new. This $255 million earmarked for Pakistan has been on hold since August 2017.

Kinda reminds me of Trumps empty threat to withhold funding from any nation that voted 'yes' on the UN Jerusalem Resolution (128 nations).

If Trump were really serious, his administration would remove Pakistan as a major non-NATO ally (MNNA). Doing so would deprive Pakistan of US military equipment.

I agree with Trump here, but there is also an immediate downside to be considered.

A sizable portion of the gasoline/petroleum products used by US/IAF forces in Afghanistan travel via tanker-truck convoy through Pakistan and into Afghanistan.

Replacing such a vital pipeline wouldn't be easy.

Those who don't remember history are condemned to repeat it. Alexander the Great, the Brits, the Russians all tried to conquer Afghanistan & failed. We've been there 14 or 15 years. When will we wise up? The classic definition of a crazy person is someone who keeps trying the same thing but always gets the same negative result.

Right. And he did the same thing with the Saudis. Oh wait. He didn't. The nation responsible for the spread of wahhabism and the 911 hijackers gets a boatload of US weapons to use as they see fit. And US money for their oil to fund it all. Not one president has had the stones to cut them off at the knees, including Trump.

Enough is enough.
We cannot afford or allow to give millions to countries who will not back us by giving terrorists a safe haven.

Well, stay tuned...I think this is the first President in a long time that isn't concerned with 'playing nice' with duplicitous nations that take our money with one hand, and shelter our enemies with the other.

I've been waiting since 21 December for Trump to punish all who dared cross his Jerusalem red-line. Still waiting.

I am not sure if this is the best way to go about it, but it is true that Pakistan harbours terrorists.

Like UBL (that's CIA NEWSPEAK for Osama Bin Laden). I know people who work there.

I just hope there is some sort of policy in play with all the geographical hornet’s nests that are being kicked......

This has always been nonsense.

The obvious difference is that we aren't there to "conquer" Afghanistan. There is no fifty-first star in the work. There is no new flag.

The plan, just like everywhere else in the twentieth century, is to eventually leave. Our problem is that we have stayed long past our expiration date.

It is about fricken' time. However, Trump is a blow hard so this most likely means nothing.

Pakistan has never been a proper ally. During the 1990s, when the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan was fighting the Taliban, Massoud's economic, military, and humanitarian support came from Russia, Iran and India. India involved itself because Pakistan was running operations (mostly clandestine) in Afghanistan to support the Taliban. Despite Massoud's pleas for U.S. aid, Clinton erred on the side of Pakistan, mostly because Massoud was receiving aid from Iran and the Russians.

By the time the CIA figured out how stupid we were being, it was too late. In 2000, the CIA convinced Massoud to unite the south with the north, and Iran was to establish a supply route. Days before 9/11, Massoud was assassinated. Up to that point he had survived multiple attempts by Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Pakistan's ISI. It is understood that Osama Bin Laden ordered the suicide attack that finally got him.

Bush turns around, spurns Iran's offer to assist under the pretense that Iran "probably supported the Taliban," and pulled Pakistan closer as an ally against the Taliban.

How absolutely retarded are we? Pakistan's "loyalty" has always been bull ****.

What, you don't believe the Pakistani government and military were unaware that that was Osama Bin Laden holed up in that compound? For shame.

And in addition to staying past, we've done little to help.

This is a subject that you and I will find common ground on. Pakistan is a known offender when it comes to harboring Islamic terrorists as well as supplying them the means to operate.

Pakistan is no friend to west.

What is it with you haters, that you think that everything should be instantaneous?

There is. It's called, by some, the Trump Doctrine.

trump-doctrine-2.jpg

Trump has been using this with a number of countries since the day he was inaugurated.

In regard to Pakistan, he set the stage last August.

“The next pillar of our new strategy is to change the approach in how to deal with Pakistan. We can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organizations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond.

“Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan. It has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals and terrorists. In the past, Pakistan has been a valued partner. Our militaries have worked together against common enemies.

“The Pakistani people have suffered greatly from terrorism and extremism. We recognize those contributions and those sacrifices, but Pakistan has also sheltered the same organizations that try every single day to kill our people. We have been paying Pakistan billions and billions of dollars, at the same time they are housing the same terrorists that we are fighting. But that will have to change. And that will change immediately.

“No partnership can survive a country’s harboring of militants and terrorists who target U.S. service members and officials. It is time for Pakistan to demonstrate its commitment to civilization, order, and to peace.

He is now following through on his words with actions.
