Documents obtained by the Times show that Papadopoulos was instrumental in setting up a meeting between then-candidate Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and coordinated directly with later-ousted White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon in setting up the meeting and arranging talking points.

Other documents show that Papadopoulos, then a member of the Trump campaign's fledgling foreign policy team, also met on behalf of the campaign with officials from the Israeli and Australian embassies. At least one conversation with a top Australian diplomat may have led to the FBI investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, the Times reported.

About three weeks earlier, Mr. Papadopoulos had been told that Moscow had thousands of emails that would embarrass Mrs. Clinton, apparently stolen in an effort to try to damage her campaign.

He will be another, oh excuse me, he has been a gold mine for Mueller. With this little tidbit, his charge laid in late July, and surprise plea deal in Dec., I imagine that made many sweat much more than we knew at that time.

That's funny as hell. I am on Twitter but, I hardly ever go on anymore. I was active during election season, but, I gave up on it. Twitter to me is like a closet, where once you open the door, people are just howling and gnashing and convulsing, and I just leave the door closed most of the time, lol!

Gollum Trump appears first on my twitter feed then donald. I like comparing the tweets and then posts donald's here. Not all the time, just the stupid ones. I use twitter to track bitcoin, and TV shows that's it! Gollum Trump is nice comic relief.

You can be sure that whatever Papadopoulos knew, Trump knew too.

There's no way he wasn't in the loop concerning political dirt on his allies. He's just like his son, he "loves it!" and will do anything he can to get it.

I think Trump's story falling apart, and them having to backtrack and backtrack and change stories, is an indicator that they did something fishy and Mueller is close to it. The time when Sessions denied all Russian contacts, then backpedaled when the public found out not only was there Russian contacts, but Sessions was in the room for a discussion involving Russian contacts. Then he magically recalled, even though, he can't recall ANYTHING, but, he recalled that he was in the room and he told Page(I think) "No, don't take that meeting and you are not officially part of the campaign."

They're a bunch of liars! So, their credibility has been KO'd. When Trump denies Russian collusion 16 times to the NY times, everyone has a hard time believing them and he 'doth protest too much'

Hillary is a bad person. She should be locked up although I am completely unclear as to the charge, but lock her up because Trump said so

I find it really interesting that, when the Australian diplomat got this information, he passed it on to the relevant authorities in Australia.

Trumps team didn’t.

And when they were asked about it, they lied or ‘couldn’t recall’.

I wonder if soon the Trumpettes will be going from ‘there was no collusion!’ To ‘but collusion isn’t wrong!’.

What's amazing is that all of these actions are those of the guilty!
 
So apparently what started the FBI investigation of Trump-Russia was not the Steele document, but Papadopoulos getting hammered in a bar and spilling the beans about the campaigns knowledge of Russia's activities.

The article, in addition to citing the real reasons for the opening of the counter-intelligence investigation, and revealing Papadopoulos to be a much more enduring character in the campaign than the mere "coffee boy," sheds additional light on the Strzok "insurance policy" text, which is suddenly a lot less insidious than Republicans painted it to be:
