NYTimes - Republican Attacks on Mueller and F.B.I. Open New Rift in G.O.P.

WASHINGTON By NICHOLAS FANDOSDEC. 30, 2017 — A growing campaign by President Trump’s most ardent supporters to discredit the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, and the law enforcement agencies assisting his investigation is opening new fissures in the Republican Party, with some lawmakers questioning the damage being done to federal law enforcement and to a political party that has long championed law and order.

A small but vocal group of conservative lawmakers, much of the conservative media and, at times, the president himself have launched a series of attacks to paint not only Mr. Mueller but institutions once considered sacrosanct to Republicans like the F.B.I. and Justice Department as dangerously biased against Mr. Trump. One of them, Representative Francis Rooney of Florida, called on Tuesday for top F.B.I. and Justice Department officials to be “purged.”

Now some Republican lawmakers are speaking out, worried that Trump loyalists, hoping for short-term gain, could wind up staining the party, dampening morale at the F.B.I. and Justice Department, and potentially recasting Democrats as the true friends of law enforcement for years to come.

The Democrats have a long way to go before they will get love the law enforcement community at large. The damage they did in vilifying cops as racists murderers will not be forgotten for a very long time. However, with Trump and his allies in Congress constantly assaulting the DOJ and FBI as incompetent and corrupt, all Democratic lawmakers need to do is sit back, verbally support federal law enforcement, and vote for the DOJ budget request and the Republicans will find themselves out of the circle in years to come.

This sudden turn of the White House to attack the integrity of the FBI clearly illustrates just how frightened they are. If they had done nothing wrong they would not now be changing horses in mid stream. They are desperate and there is definitely desperation in the ranks.
Frankly destroying a national institution to prop up a Shylock, womanizing fraud is just about the most stupid America has gotten. And there's a lot of stupid in there.

You don't feel like a pawn? Just echoing the latest White House propaganda strategy?

I agree completely. This is Trump and Co.'s M.O. and it will not change. If they sense any criticism or chance their covers are about to be pulled back, they launch the attack. And like Pavlov's dog, the base joins in. It's madness. All Trump (and Fox) have to do is say "bad" and point a finger at someone or something and herd moves on them.

You don't feel like a pawn? Just echoing the latest White House propaganda strategy?

Me personally? No, not at all.

I guess it is inconceivable for some to admit that the White House, and others, might have a legitimate point about FBI and DOJ competence, corruption and political bias as illustrated in the recent revelations of conflicts of interest and political bias.

Inconceivable that the same organizations (and pretty much the same people) that handled (mis-handling) Hillary's email investigation (baselessly finding no fault) are now motivated (potentially politically) to do their jobs the way they should have been done in the earlier case.

I guess the principal of 'all are equal before the eyes of the law' is just too much to expect from the DOJ and FBI, especially when political affiliations simply have to be taken into account. Clearly the principal of 'all are equal before the eyes of the law' simply must be sacrificed on the alter of liberalism, just so that they can feel good about themselves.

All of this political posturing doesn't matter.

What matters is what's in those 1.2 million pages of evidence that the DOJ OIG is going to give Congress in January...and, of course, what Congress does with that evidence.

Actually that last line was a mistake. Sorry about that.

I have to say I am very surprised at how the Republicans have turned into such babies. Anyone with integrity would realize how hypocritical it is to have spent 16 years non stop investigating a political opponent and then turn around and cry like an infant at ONE investigation.

Everything Trump and they do screams "guilty".

If you think that the way Trump and his allies have treated the DOJ and the FBI doesn't matter, I'm afraid you don't have a proper understanding of how D.C. works. It matters, and their will be long lasting consequences, whether they are apparent to us little people or not.

So when did the FBI become so corrupt?

And how do you know?

And why isn't the president launching an investigation into the corruption?

Sorry, but you arguments get weaker and weaker, you have NOT ONE shred of evidence just the usual bull****.

And what's the really ugly part, is that you and others in here were the first ones to demand investigation after investigation of the Clintons who seldom protested...but here a president not only appears to have broken the law but is acting guilty a hell and you whine and accuse good people of being corrupt.

If you have evidence present it.

But we know you'll just keep shoveling lies over the lies...

When did the Republicans pay for and use fake information to convince a FISA Court to authorize wiretapping a Presidential candidate? You know...illegal stuff.

Haha no problem. After the eight year onslaught of lies, personal and professional attacks, and obstructionist behavior Republicans perpetrated against the Obama administration you would think these kids wouldn't be so thin skinned. The only thing weaker than their spine is their character.

Trump hasn't treated the DOJ or the FBI badly, though he has said some things about "people" in the DOJ and the FBI. Neither has anyone who works for Trump.

I advise you not to get caught up with the mainstream media spin. Don't be a "little people". Facts are your friend.

I have no ****ing idea of what you're talking about and I suspect is a long way off topic.

Tell me, you were the guys who went after Hillary for almost her entire career and she barely protested, put up with the idiocy of "Benghazi" and yet here you are going crazy, accusing good people of being corrupt because the president has acted extremely suspiciously.

But protest, whine, wheedle, and cry over it...so I will ask the same question you asked when Hillary was under assault: If you have nothing to hide, why are you fighting an investigation into the truth?

Trump is acting guilty as hell.

Explain that difference eh. If there's nothing to hide why is acting and directing his followers to act like there is?

I eagerly look forward to the Trump exhortation memo being written before any of the interviews having taken place.

I eagerly look forward to the Trump campaign staff being given immunity deals before their interviews.

(Aren't immunity deals typically done when someone's guilty of a crime? In order to get them to testify against another, a bigger fish?)

Both of these things were done in the Hillary email (miss) investigation.
You are still clinging to the narrative that the fix wasn't in for Hillary's email scandal?
You are still clinging to demonstrated invalidation of the principal that all are equal before the eyes of the law?
:lamo

Who's in denial here?

The two points above are already sufficient to hold both the DOJ and FBI as having been corrupted during the Obama administration. There are more, if you care to familiarize yourself with the facts of the matters in question.

****!

Great line. I wished I'd thought of it.

I'm astonished.

After all the **** heaped on Hillary, yeah, you'd think they could take some name calling. But when you drink the cool aid, there's no going back..you're in for the long haul.

What amuses me the most is how the Republicans in here went nuts over Hillary's bogus claim of dodging sniper fire. Four years! Four ****ing years over one lie...and now the protect a president who cannot get through a morning without issuing a whopper.

It's no wonder nothing ever gets done and other countries are passing the US is so many sectors, all the energy in the country goes into fighting each other.

All the **** heaped on Hillary was of her own doing.

In the last example she was the one that setup, or ordered to be setup, her private email server though which she funneled classified documents violating the law. No one made her do this. Its all hers to own and be accountable for.

Sorry, but that's not proof of anything.

It's your opinion which is meaningless. Once you drink the cool aid you're no longer a reliable source of anything.

Thanks anyway, but suddenly calling something "corrupt" when you've had a few years to make a case of it does nothing to restore your non existent integrity

Once again, opinion and yours is meaningless.

We're done here. I refuse to debate with liars

I have no ****ing idea of what you're talking about and I suspect is a long way off topic.

You need to get up to speed with what the House and Senate are saying and doing.

Go to about the 4:00 mark of this video:

Now, keep in mind...that's Graham speaking. He's no friend of Trump and doesn't do Trump's bidding.

Then, you can read this article from National Review who, likewise, are no Trump friends.

Steele Dossier: Source of Fisa Warrant Against Trump Campaign? | National Review

Now...for sure...nobody has all the answers yet, but Congress is working hard to find them. Here's a letter that Rep. Nunes sent to the FBI. It's not pretty.

Yes, federal law enforcement is well known for its bows to the "alter (sic) of liberalism".

When did the Republicans pay for and use fake information to convince a FISA Court to authorize wiretapping a Presidential candidate? You know...illegal stuff.

Which , of course, there is zero evidence of that actually happening, ever. You do love that fake new it seems.

You and I will simply disagree on this point.

Which , of course, there is zero evidence of that actually happening, ever. You do love that fake new it seems.

Yes...that's what I was thinking. Zero evidence of Republicans doing that kind of stuff.

The Democrats? Now that's a different story.

Two of Hillary’s staff were given immunity for their testimony in the email investigation. Although Trey Gowdy thinks otherwise, such an immunity deal is common practice. The two were small fish. Hillary was the big fish and they might have come across another or two. They did not. Hillary did not give any instruction to either of the two to erase the emails and the two confirmed so:
