Trump signs tax bill into law

President Trump's chief economic advisor Gary Cohn said with that $1000 you can renovate your kitchen or buy a new car.

I just renovated the kitchen. All in it cost about 30k and I did all the work myself. 2k ain't gonna cut it. I guess a person can get a new car with a 1k down payment.

Yeah, we are going to reno our kitchen in 2018 and the cheapest bid we have right now is about $45,000. I'm not sure what Cohn was thinking. I'm not sure he was thinking at all.

Obama was handed the second worst economy in world history. That is the time to Borrow.

Now that the economy is back on it's feet, true conservatives would be paying down the dept .not increasing it In order to personally enrich themselves.

WTF, really?

It's hard to take people serious when they post **** like this.

This is going to help so many families in all classes.
Businesses will also enjoy the tax cuts as well.
The liberals/Demos will benefit as well and they know it so they should stop the complaining.

This tax bill is the answer to what question?

Are the top 1% of wealthiest Americans suffering under the current tax code?
Is the tax code too complicated? - yes but this bill does not address the problem.
Is the deficit large? Yes, this bill won't help.
Have wages stagnated since the 70's - Yes but this bill won't help.
Are health care costs burdensome? Yes, but this bill won't help.
Do we have a handful of wealthy donors who have an out-sized influence on elected officials. Yes. Now they will have lots more money with which to influence politics.

Is it the govt's job to punish the top 1%?

The top-earning 1 percent of Americans will pay nearly half of the federal income taxes for 2014, the largest share in at least three years, according to a study.
According to a projection from the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the top 1 percent of Americans will pay 45.7 percent of the individual income taxes in 2014—up from 43 percent in 2013 and 40 percent in 2012 (the oldest period available).

As for jobs:
Roberts also announced that Comcast would invest $50 billion over the next five years in infrastructure toward its “broadband plant and capacity, and our television, film and theme park offerings.”

Comcast says that it expects to bring on thousands of new employees as a result of the investments. The firm says it will offer further details in its Jan. 24 earnings report.
Comcast’s announcement comes on the heels of AT&T announcing that it would offer $1,000 holiday bonus to roughly 200,000 of its employees because of tax-reform legislation passing in Congress.

President Trump mentioned AT&T's news Wednesday at the White House as he celebrated passage of the tax bill with congressional Republicans.

GOP governors fear a 2018 wipeout after Virginia loss - CNNPolitics

The repubs are now doubly fearful of what will happen to them in 2018 after VA, AL & the Mother of All Tax Scams.

"Punish" is a very strange term to use to describe the circumstances of the 1% who have been avoiding taxes for years and who have never been wealthier. Now, let the wild rumpus begin of restructuring shenanigans to further avoid taxes.

As for jobs:

Yes there will be jobs for lawyers and accountants determining all the new opportunities to lower or avoid taxes. Meanwhile, Paul Ryan is sharpening his knife to attack soc. sec. and medicare.

You asked this, "Are the top 1% of wealthiest Americans suffering under the current tax code?" Are they supposed to suffer? Is that the purpose of the tax code, to make the top 1% suffer? That is what I got from your question. If one is caused intentional suffering I would call that "punishment".

How can the 1% avoid taxes when they pay almost 50% of all taxes in the country?

Seems the wealthy are unfairly targeted as the fall guy yet they have big businesses that can help create new business which creates job growth. They can be awarded this tax break.
As for health care I think we can all agree this dude's obamascare was a complete failure. Forcing consumers in burdening skyrocket premiums is not acceptable, especially their wallets. A number of insurances bailed. With this tax break more insurance carriers can create their own policies without high deductibles and full coverages.
As for wages with this tax break you can give the raises instead of paying higher taxes like this dude has done.
It's signed sealed and delivered. There's nothing else to do but enjoy the benefits.

So why not have tax breaks specifically for the companies that do create new businesses and create new jobs instead of HOPING and PRAYING that tax cuts given across the board to corporations might do that with some of them?

With the new tax signed this week this will lead to other/new tax breaks created for the companies. We have to take this bit by bit. It's not the idea of President Trump not to pass over but this it is a start of something that Dictator obama would not do.

I do not follow your answer. It seems irresponsible and even counter productive to give ALL corporations the tax break when what we want to do is encourage job growth from some corporations who will use it for that.

It seems we are dropping tons and tons of water in a neighborhood hoping that some of it fills the swimming pools that are there. Would it not be better to NOT drop all that water and simply fill the pools that merit it?

Might want to check if you have any Amish cabinet makers around. This is just a small kitchen in our cabin but the cabinets are handmade and cost $2900 installed(09/17)

One wonders why you focus on the amount of taxes paid by the 1% rather than the percentage of the nation's wealth they possess to begin with...not to mention owning the political process (made abundantly clear by the way this tax bill evolved)

I chose the word "suffering" ironically but I think you know that.
