AT&T is giving $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 employees after tax bill

Bought off cheaply... ROTFLOL...

In a workforce of 250,000... 600 get laid off and 200,000 get bonuses, and Leftists complain.

It’s not the end of their lives. It’s a new beginning, and it seems many of these people have the skills others can use.

Layoffs are part of business. Yes, these were at an unfortunate time, but that’s life.
My suggestion... they keep truck’in. It’s not the end of their world... and I’m sure they all know it.

Do you know the severance package of the 600?

Fact is, some of the 600 could be better off.
You are amazing. I'm sure they consider it WINNING!

It more than 600, much more. Nice try in downplaying it. The real funny part is the some of the $1000 bonus recipients are also on the chopping block. Suckers bought off quite cheaply. Might as well trust the sign "Work will set you free".

AT&T workforce stricken with over 2000 layoffs U.S-wide days after $1000 tax reform bonus check

I started the thread and don’t answer every reply... and if you were desperate for a reply, why not quote precisely what he said that you believed I neglected. It would have made it easy... for I didn’t recall a Hari.

You responded to Hari's post by QUOTING it. Such dishonesty, zimmer. And you responded to the post by not addressing a thing he said.

Seeing as you believe this is a massive issue... LOL... below is the post I suspect you are referring to.

AT&T has about 250,000 employees. They gave bonuses to 200,000 and laid off 600 people.

600 people in a 250,000 person company.
AT&T hands out bonuses to 200,000 workers, pink slips to 600 others - Chicago Tribune

Well, in net it is a huge bonus for most employees. For the .0024% who were given a pink slip, it is unfortunate, but that is the nature of the free market. One has no idea what their severance packages were, but I’m guessing they’ll do OK until they find a new job. And unlike Obama’s economy... Trump’s economy is growing jobs because it is business friendly.

See, now other than the last line which I have addressed elsewhere as completely false and stupid, if you had said what you said above, I'd have had no issue with your comments. The comment is logical and lucid... and not a partisan soapbox. Completely unlike you, so I give you credit for writing it.

Obamanomics was abysmal. It was a hostile business environment rampant with crony capitalism, layers of new regulations, and that sack of bricks called the Careless Affordable Care Act (CACA)... which was a job crusher.

Brought us out of the worst economic recession since the 30's and put a cap on idiotic business practices by regulating them so that business couldn't cause ANOTHER economic crisis like they did last time. As far as ACA goes, it's far better than anything Trump could come up with. It certainly has it's problems, but it also put a leash on some major insurance company created problems. It's biggest issue was that it didn't go far enough and it still gave the insurance industry too much power as opposed to the practitioners.

You seem uppity that people were fired, and when 200,000 received bonuses. That happens in the free market. In a Commi system there is always full employment, and nobody ever gets fired ROTFLOL...

Now you're just lying. Show where I addressed the issue at all. Show where I complained about the firings. I have asked you to prove your assertions about my positions before and you have always either failed or ran away. You have already failed. Shall I expect you to start running, now?

Hari’s complaint was a stupid one, and your using it to shoot arrows was a poor choice.

His complaint was valid in the context of what was being said about the effects of the tax cuts on business. It wasn't well thought out for a number of reasons, many of which have been presented in this thread. MY issue wasn't with his position. MY issue was with your lack of response to his position. All you had to do was say what you said in your second paragraph of this post and all would be fine. But no, you instead chose to go on one of your irrelevant partisan rants. So I confronted you on it. Don't like it? Don't do it.

I’m not here to please you... and you really shouldn’t be complaining about partisan rants. You have one of the all-time inane partisan rants... which is still the basis for an active thread.

You're STILL upset at how badly I've decimated you in that thread. Sorry. You're just going to have to continue to lick your wounds.

The Apple X is a Ferrari and the 3120 is a tractor. In its day it was a good phone though.

In it's day, the 3120 stood alone. The Apple X has lots of competition... and not being much of an Apple fan myself, I'd say there are better phones out there... but that's a matter of preference.

I was just squiring SINJIN THE WONDER PUP around the HOOD and stopped a few doors down to talk to my AT&T neighbor, he says that the money gets paid on the 29th, which I find interesting...like it was important to the accountants that it get paid this year.

like it was important to the accountants that it get paid this year.
Probably was, we don’t know what fiscal consequences flow from this disbursement, but we can be certain payment one tax year or the other would make a difference and no doubt paying this year instead of next benefits ATT more.

I don’t think it is bad thing for ATT’s accountants and tax guys to maximize the company’s benefits in disbursement or to minimize any adverse impact from doing so, I would expect this.

Sure, but I dont understand why, which always makes me uncomfortable.....I tend to try to know things. I am currently on an investigation of this company, trying to figure out what they are up to, and if they should be cheered.

I have no answers yet.

Likely ATT’s profits this year allowed disbursing $200 million, which if issued as shareholder dividends would have had a more negative fiscal effect. It could be that Trump’s tax reform reduces the deductibility of ATT’s disbursement next year, maybe it taxes corporate capital holdings more and thereby incentivized this bonus. One would need to ask a corporate tax specialist who had scrutinized Trump’s tax reform, there are lots of ‘moving parts’, they’re all interactive. ATT is a major multimedia operator, they’ve lots of deals pending, covered by lots of regulations, maybe they want to curry favor, had some surplus and figured this would gain them some support from an Administration glad for some good Christmas cheer.

And they have been making huge demands on labor, have fired a lot of them, will fire a lot more......this is a way to say "We care".

This is not in evidence, firing just 600 from a quarter million workforce is not firing a lot of them. How do you know ATT will fire a lot more? Businesses are motivated by profit, if things are going well and profits are high, businesses will pay workers bonuses not fire them.

Perhaps I had, but with so many posts going... it wasn’t dishonesty.

Obama was as business hostile as Trump is business friendly. And, Obama was an economic illiterate, which is no surprise... because he never did anything in the real world.

It reminds me of McGivern and his WSJ article after he’d opened a B&B and lamented the burdens government puts on business owners... if only he knew he said.

The problem with Obama is he did not know what he did not know, and proved himself dangerous to the US, its citizens and our economy.

Reagan had stagflation... double digit inflation and interest rates, a depleted military, and brought it to glorious heights, and set the stage for an economic rocket that lasted for almost 20-years.

We see now how a hostile president, and an economic illiterate (Obama), caused economic stagnation. It’s brutally obvious, and to compound the stupidity, the Socialists of America Partei (SAPs) have collectively voted against the tax cuts... ROTFLOL.

“Lying”... ROTFLOL... I wrote...

You did seem uppity. A nd Harri’s comment was a stupid one.

That thread continues. We’re on point 6 or 7... and your emotional rant continues to be deconstructed. It’ll make a fine blog post when completed.

Odd... you’ve run away from it after posting the Blue State electoral maps, and revealing the longest voting Blue county in the US went Trump... which blows your emotional tantrum to shreds.

Trump's tax reform will have equally significant political and economic impact. Pelosi dismissed the economic impact as "crumbs", but it is evident employer's $1k bonuses to millions of workers were well-received, additionally, everyone is seeing at least a couple hundred dollars boost in wages thanks to the tax reform simply taking less from their salaries. Maybe the good vibe from those bonuses to millions of workers will have dissipated by the midterms, but the boost in wages due to less being taken in taxes will persist and those "working poor" will appreciate the extra couple hundred dollars twice a month, for them this is significant. I think it will have political impact. I also think this Trump's tax reform will have an important "trickle down" effect because millions of people will have a bit more for discretionary spending, they'll go watch a movie, take a date out for dinner, get some repairs on the car, buy new clothes... All of this helps provide employment and income to others, so the beneficial effect multiplies. It comes down to that basic political question everyone considers as they make their ballot box choices; "am I doing better?"
