AT&T is giving $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 employees after tax bill

You forgot when Obama tried to kill the tourist business in Las Vegas by telling people not to go there.

Oh come on Mason. That isn't what Obama said at all.

First comment - dumb, but not "don't go there":

"When times are tough, you tighten your belts, You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

Second comment - directed at corporations which had received federal bailout dollar, and also not "don't go there":

"You can't go take that trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on taxpayers' dime".

Obama never tried to kill the tourist business in Las Vegas. There are many legitimate reasons to criticize Obama, but don't make things up.

No matter what a corporation does it isn't good enough for some people.

I don't care about PR. Worker's wages have been stagnate for decades. Corporations are not victims.

so what if it is a PR stunt?

do you really think the employees care?

or are they laughing all the way to the bank?

damn...can you guys be any more negative?

https://www.economist.com/news/unit...g-up-pay-blue-collar-wages-are-surging-can-it

maybe this article will improve your mood....not white collar, but blue collar wage increases

What about the ones that won't see a bonus or a wage increase? I'm glad they are using some of their tax savings to give some money to workers, but I also don't think every PR stunt deserves high praise.

Isn't that nice of them, sharing our wealth with their employees..

Our wealth? What in the hell are you talking about?

Only in the world of a far leftist, is a company giving their employees a bonus, considered to be money taken from them.

When the President says don't go there, however he says it, that is what sticks with the people.

It did have an effect on the town at that time.

By their very nature PR stunts like this are cynical bull**** with an ulterior motive.

$1000 is hardly 'laughing all the way to the bank', when wages remain stagnant.
damn...can you guys be any more negative?

I'm not being negative; I'm being realistic. ATT has a huge merger under consideration by the gov't and the gov't is run by a praise-hungry, emotionally retarded and pathologically dishonest man-child. They're sucking up to him so he can say, "See? I told you!" and possibly influence the approval of the merger.

Good! Hopefully it's a trend that continues.

the tax rate on that $1K bonus is over 45% .................... and besides; those 200K employees would have received not a dime if it had not been for the corporate windfall just handed corporations by POTUS Trump.

in 2002, Guidant employees received a 33% bonus from earnings in 2001. The bonus was paid out on February 14. We manufactured implantable cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and leads.

Guess where those life saving medical devices are produced now & guess where those jobs are located now?

Guess where all of the profit goes now?

We just keep gutting the tax code country, believing there are no consequences for these wank fests.

The only thing that happened today was trillions being added to the national debt.

See thread Thread: Tax Bill Calculator: Will Your Taxes Go Up or Down? on which liberals are complaining about getting a monthly pay increase.

What does that have to do with AT&T not raising their worker's wages, but instead just giving some of them one time bonuses? This bill is supposed to allow for businesses to expand and/or raise wages right?

Yeah, they didn't get the bonuses delivered by a gold bar crapping unicorn either. Those bastards, giving bonuses like that. They should buy everyone a Lambo while they are at it. If I worked there I would DEMAND a Lambo. Who do they think they are anyway?

You are really reaching here. The spin ain't working.

who claimed they were

but even when they do something nice, you guys seem to want to crap all over it

corporations and companies arent the enemy....they are job providers

without them, we are screwed

Only a winger would believe that less revenue going to government that is already drowning in debt is a good thing.

When I first opened my practice I took the entire staff, along with spouses, to Mexico for a weekend. I rented a 6 bedroom house on a beach, brought tons of food and beverages. I took everyone out on a kitchy pirate ship dinner cruise. One of my employees mentioned that she appreciated everything but hoped I knew she also expected a bonus. The bonus checks were already written and waiting on their desks for when they got back.

A month later she quit and took another employee with her. Her reason for leaving? Even though she admitted that she was underperforming in her position she felt that the raise I offered wasn't sufficient. I don't miss her.

Crap like that is why I don't give big bonuses or staff outings anymore. I don't even do Christmas parties as it's too much of a pain to get everyone's schedule coordinated. My employees are paid on a par for the local area and receive regular, modest, bonuses. Paid time off and flexible schedules seems to be fine with them. When I went less extravagant my turnover and complaints went to zero.

He didn't say "Don't go there", Mason. And we both know it.

Do you not agree that people who cry broke should spend their money wisely and not blow it on vacations (to anywhere)? Do you think corporations that get taxpayer bailouts should be able to take their employees on expensive vacations that the rest of us are paying for?

Without workers we are also screwed. I'm tired of people forgetting about that. It is good that they shared some of their savings with some of their employees. I'm glad those employees can now afford to outright buy Christmas presents this year. I really mean that, but a PR stunt is a PR stunt. This tax bill is a huge windfall for these corporations, and if real wages don't reflect that in the coming years we will be in big trouble.

Only a winger would believe that less revenue going to government that is already drowning in debt is a good thing.

That is distorting my post.

My post merely says, that only a leftist would think that the money a company legally earns and shares with it's employees, is some how money stolen from them.

If you want to talk about debt, where were you during the 8 years Obama doubled the national debt?

Are you assuming AT&T has not raised their wages or do you have something to back that up?

I agree, demanding a raise to eleven dollars an hour is the same as asking for a Lambo. You are in touch with the working man.

AT&T has had a decades (many) long history of layoffs, buyouts, rejecting FTEs in favor of 1099 employees, etc. They are a good, rock solid old company, but there is no way they would do across the board wage raises, because they know they are highly unlikely to be sustainable.

Stephenson is a good CEO, and a lifelong Republican supporter and donor. He received $28 million in salary in 2016, which was up 13% from 2015. I wonder how many of his employees will see a 13% wage increase in 2018?

Are you assuming AT&T has not raised their wages or do you have something to back that up?

I know people who work for AT&T and I used to as well. I know plenty about how they operate their business.

SAPs... Socialists of America Partei dontcha know.

You didn’t build that.
These are not the times for profits.
Spread the wealth around.
You may not spend your money correctly.

That kinda nonsense... from ex SAP presidents.
We've never had a socialist president.

FDR might have been the closest, but even he wasn't

That's quite a coincidence. I'm getting 3K this year. My company announces bonuses on the 15th of Dec.

Every year...

Year end bonuses are nice to get. Kinda subsidizes xmas and other holiday expenses.

I know people who work for AT&T and I used to as well. I know plenty about how they operate their business.

Many people in my family have worked and do work for ATT, and they are backed by the AFLCIO and receive generous raises every year.

Of course, but people didn't hear it like that.

Obama should never say anything like that when the town depends on the tourist dollar.

If somebody wants to spend their money that way, they should do it.

It was out of line for him to even bring it up.
