Virginia Democrat Appears to Win Recount by One Vote, Tipping State House Balance

Eh? So it is so natural that the party who gets most votes gets a minority of seats in the legislative? That is called a dictatorship.

Republic not democracy

Maybe in Denmark they do it different

Here we vote for in our little boroughs, and no, the top vote getter doesn’t always win

Everyone knows the rules going in.....

That is not a dictatorship by any means, A dictatorship is complete control over govt not a voting system. In reality the united states and the rest of the civilized world use a republic or an indirect democracy. A republic was designed to prevent mob rule and keep the majority from oppressing the minority.

In reality a majority vote could demand jews get thrown in ovens blacks get dragged behind trucks mexicans get sent home for being brown all muslims charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism and every native american be given blankets with smallpox, reality is we have moved on beyond that, a representative democracy is not without flaws, but it does far better than direct democracy at protecting minorities from the whims of the majority. If you want direct democracy you want the highest population centers to decide for a whole region, which to say direct democracy is limited in the world and completely unused for head of state except for france and third world countries.
