Live Alabama Election Results: Roy Moore and Doug Jones Compete for Senate Seat

In all the jubilation, show a bit of respect. There were people in Alabama who really did not want to vote vote for someone who is pro-choice. Or who didn't vote at all because of who they believed Roy Moore really was. But it was hard for them. For those who came out for the first time, or the first time in long time, or voted against some of your deeply held principles, you have my respect. I believe you did the right thing and I truly hope you are not disappointed and that Doug Jones represents you honorably and well.

So Jeff Flakes' two word tweet is like a smack to the face of Ben Sasse and the rest of the party.

One thing we can be sure of, because of the successful smear job the democrats ran in this election, we will be seeing it again.
And the other loser tonight? The women. After this, the democrats don't need you anymore. We won't be hearing anything else about his "victims", they're done with you.

Donald Trump lost tonight. Get over it, snow flake ;)

I truly wonder how trump will spin this after he went whole hog in for Moore. He can never admit any kind of setback much less an entire defeat.

Big mistake....but, Trump is an idiot....expected.

Doug Jones won on Chuanakkah. This means that Trump's about to go on an 8 day Twitter meltdown.

I hope.

Its Hilldogs fault !!

Now that the number one diversion is out of the way

I get that Bannon doesn't like the GOP establishment, and a lot of voters are not happy with them either.... but... really... can't they find somebody better than Roy Moore? Or Trump?

They are a new set of problems.

Well, the GOP appears to have a minority-possibly-plurality portion of the base increasingly immune to uncomfortable information, and malleable to manipulation by a vicious and malevolent troll bent on burning down institutions for the sake of dancing in the flames. That's a problem and a half.

Winners:

- Voters of colour
- Voters of decency
- Girls taken advantage of by older men of power

Losers:

- Trump
- Bannon
- Bigots & hypocrites hiding behind religion

It's a good night in America!

How is this a loss for Trump??? Can you think of anything else that may have affected this race?

Trump has **** for pull in arguably the reddest state in the nation. He lost two races. He lost the republican primary in this race then he backed and couldn't pull the republican across the finish line in ALABAMA!

Trump backed Moore
Moore backed Trump
Rejection of Moore and Republican extremism resulted in a huge swing for Dems in the "reddest" state in the nation. It's not just a 1% win, it's a 25% or so swing.

LOL, yeah, nothing else was behind this, huh? Okay, glad you feel that way.

You are just loaded with whiny excuses aren't cha?

Pretty sure the women won tonight. Or the girls, as the case may be.

The Senate pages can breathe easy at least.

Now really, there was only one single thing in this race that gave Jones a chance.

Hopefully this trend continues. Would love to see Trumpism/far right wing conservatism obliterated.

Hard to argue against Jewish food/deli.

Christ, what I wouldn't give for a plate of kreplachs right now, with braised onions, apple sauce and sour cream.

Mmmmm.....just hoping that this year they have something other than brisket...I don't eat beef, or pork (that won't be a problem).

Moore has never been there, and Franken still is, among others. I doubt a single one of them is breathing easier.

LOL... it's Bannon's fault? It sounds like dog eat dog over there.

And Bannon really made an ass out of himself down there.

Meh. He's the lead clown in the parade setting fire to the circus tents. Certainly he was a major reason the GOP ended up with Moore as a candidate, instead of Strange.

Now really, there was only one single thing in this race that gave Jones a chance.

Doesn't matter. The current Republican president fully endorsed Moore, and BEGGED voters in Alabama to vote for Moore.

And Moore lost. Thus, Trump and his agenda were rejected. The biggest loser tonight is President Donald Trump.

Watching the victory speech right now: Jones won on the very night of his 25th wedding anniversary.

Sweet.

See what happens with Pawlenty in Minnesota. Not quite the same scenario as Franken will be gone, but they are risking a seat from the fallout.

As you mention MN, DEMs are in real trouble there next year, where HRC only won MN by 44,000. Dayton is term-limited, GOPs gave a big lead in the State House, lead 34-33 in the State Senate; DEMs have 4 CDs in trouble with GOPs having two in trouble; MN as with so many other states where politics are local ...

Unsubstantiated claims are not proof of anything, and he wasn't accused of pedophilia to begin with. Theocrat? Wrong also.

Since the 2016 general election, have liberals learned to not run a corrupt race-baiting slob? Of course not.

You know GD well that creepy Roy Moore lusted after little girls. The evidence was overwhelming...as was your messed up cognitive dissonance.

Creepy Roy Moore lost......where was his god?

Excuse me folks while I cash this chip in...

Speaks volumes about the Left's agenda and it's ability to sell that agenda. The Liberals are so ****ed up they can't even beat a "pervert".

The Republicans as a whole don't appear to be losing much ground.

I don't think I'll be getting my receipt tonight though. He kind of disappeared out of this thread a while back when things started looking not so good for Moore.
