Live Alabama Election Results: Roy Moore and Doug Jones Compete for Senate Seat

Alabama votes on Tuesday in a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. The last polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Strong support for Roy S. Moore, the Republican, is expected in rural, mostly white parts of the state and in its northern half. The Democrat, Doug Jones, aims to create a lead in the urban counties that include Birmingham and Montgomery, and across a band of largely black counties.

One critical battleground is a trio of smaller, whiter cities: Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Mr. Moore won a hard race in 2012 by keeping things close there. Mr. Jones hopes to win the cities by a convincing margin.

Nobody is better than CNN's John King on vote coverage bt the media.

Thanks to pR as always. I trust the local AL reporters that Jones was too far left on social issues, along with the silent majority effect of 2016, plus restrictive voter ID. Moore by 2% 15 minutes before polls close ...

Chuck Todd on MSNBC was using the closeness of the exit data to suggest it might be a long night.

I disagree.

I think many Alabamans are perfectly content to not like Moore's actions and behaviours, while voting for him anyway. Just as many accross the country did with Trump.

It's the old, "He might be an asshole, but he's my asshole", thing.

So while I hope I'm wrong, I'm thinking it will be called within the hour.

More than 2 percent, IMO.

Jones might have been able to do it, if he went pro-life. The abortion issue will kill him, as much as having a 'D' after his name.

Enjoying McConnell holding an emergency conference tomorrow if moore is elected ...

As the media has been quick to point-out, it's the suburban women that can have an impact besides the black vote.

Just as suburban women killed it in Virginia recently, and can bring it home in '18 and '20.

Yes, Trump and the GOP have been relatively impervious to sexual allegations and sexually inconsiderate speech (Trump and his Tweets). But this may finally start moving the needle in national terms.

Interestingly, Jone's campaign is claiming they are seeing Black turnout meet or exceed their 25% goal, which is close to Obama pulling 28% in '08.

It would appear that you are just guessing on demographics of those cities. The only one of those three cities that is decisively white is Huntsville. Mobile is only slightly over 50% white. Something like 50.4% Tuscaloosa is less then half. Roughly 49.1%.

No just abortion but being far left on abortion

If/when Moore wins he'll be the gift that keeps on giving for liberals, showing just how radical the GOP is for as long as he's around.

A win is a win in their minds.

These kind of character failures for the GOP and it's base are helping show the rest of the country how ruthless they are when it comes to gaining power.

Exit polling reporting 30 % black voters. However, white vote, including college educated whites are voting Moore by a big margin.

I'm hearing numbers in the 30% range.

I'm not guessing at all. That is the article I quoted. Hence why it is indented while my comments are not.

Exit polls showing white women in Alabama overwhelmingly voting for Moore. No surprise there.

Nah, even if Jones was pro life he still would have lost (and he will lose). I lived in Alabama for five years, and trust me when I state the white majority population there HATES Democrats with a seething passion. That D next to Jones name is why he will lose.

Exactly. He's fully supportive.

It's one thing to say you're "for abortion", and yet another to say you "do not personally accept abortion, but respect the Constitution and Supreme court".

I'm more comfortable with the latter statement myself, since it speaks to my personal feelings on the issue.

Nobody listens to liberals anymore. People don't like communism.

The latter is not good at all.

I suppose that makes the quality of a southern college education suspect! :2razz:

Same situation in reverse in California. Who wins?

C'mon. People see through your drivel.

Many nationally that don't pay close attention, are now seeing what those of is that did pay close attention do.
