CNN exclusive: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand calls on Trump to resign

Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York told CNN on Monday that President Donald Trump should resign over allegations of sexual assault.

"President Trump has committed assault, according to these women, and those are very credible allegations of misconduct and criminal activity, and he should be fully investigated and he should resign," Gillibrand told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in an exclusive interview.

"These allegations are credible; they are numerous, " said Gillibrand, a leading voice in Congress for combating sexual assault in the military. "I've heard these women's testimony, and many of them are heartbreaking."

I say she's right!

Trump's accusers are believable. It's ridiculous to think they're all lying. He is a foul mouthed and dirty minded individual and I'd like to know if people are that naïve that they think an arrogant, self-obsessed real estate developer who hung out with Hollywood types is a damn boy scout.

How about we just eliminate all men from any position in Washington, and start over!

I dont get the sense that folks in Fly Over Country have much appetite for the current purity drive, ruining men on the say so of a few women making claims, D's should be careful.

How about we just eliminate all men from any position in Washington, and start over!

Lot's of folks are saying "SEE SEE,,,THIS is why we need fewer men in power!"......MEN SUCK!

Well, in truth, any group or demographic given free rein of power can suck.

I said it once and I'll say it again, people prone to predatory behavior should be the lst people entrusted with the powers delegated by our Constitution. If they tendency toward predation sexually, then they'll tendency toward predation in general. Including abuse of power. Absolutely not ****ing cool. At. All.

Should he resign? Perhaps?

Legally, does he have the right to stay as President? Absolutely.

Our economy is doing so well right now, I think it would be silly for Trump to resign. He's delivering on his economic promise.

Cory Booker did too. https://www.yahoo.com/news/cory-booker-calls-donald-trump-165055679.html

You have one extra word in your sentence. IT should be 'eliminate all', not all men.

Well, in truth, any group or demographic given free rein of power can suck.

Claims of the powerlessness of women during recent history have been grossly exaggerated.

Of-course Gillibrand wants Trump to resign, and so does every other Democrat. Removing a duly elected President by any means necessary has been their goal since Trump took the oath office
This was the plan all along. The Dems sacrificed Franken so they could claim the moral high ground and target Trump, because lets be honest, the whole Russian collusion false narrative is going no-where.
So Franken steps down, three accusers hold a press conference soon after, and Democrats demand that he step down over allegations. When this doesn't work, they'll move onto something else

Why should he resign on accusations that have no proof?

If these events did occur, why weren't the police notified or why wasn't a lawsuit launched? I smell opportunists...nothing more.

That's three senators and counting. 4 if you count Bernie Sanders.

I'd say she's wrong.

How many of these women have filed with the DA or police over any of these "criminal activities" by Trump before he run for office?

Yep. If everyone else is going to be punished for sexual predation then so should Trump and Moore.

Lot's of folks are saying "SEE SEE,,,THIS is why we need fewer men in power!"......MEN SUCK!

That is the underlying theme to all of this.

I can't stand Al Franken, but if that's the new bar, then you can probably eliminate 90 percent of the men in Congress. Unless he was running from far worse things he didn't want out there, then I though his resignation was a bit of an overreaction.

My gut is, these claims are going to ring hollow more and more as we go forward unless it's at a Weinstein or Lauer level. I wonder how many of these women are just being vindictive because they didn't land that rich celebrity they wanted for their own, or they are seeking profit from this in attention or cash.

This stuff is serious, but it needs to be far more vetted than it has been. #MeToo has now become too trendy. All of the sudden out of nowhere.

I don't see where in your article she called out clinton.

Bill or hillary?

when?

key questions. it's very easy to call out bubba these days. Where were you all then?

Where were you all when his wife set up a war room to discredit his serial rape victims.

He'd never resign, inside, he's perfectly proud of such behavior and as he claimed in that bus interview, he thinks it's a celebrity entitlement.

OTOH, if he thought he was seriously about to get kicked out of the WH, he might *use* this to exit on his terms, terms he's not even ashamed of.

But my guess is if the Russia thing gets close enough to risking his presidency, if it means actual criminal charges, he'd stay to try and fight and save his own neck. But you never know what other coup or incompetency opportunities will come along? If there's no jail involved, I could see him using this as an excuse.

You have one extra word in your sentence. IT should be 'eliminate all', not all men.

On that I can agree. That's how Trump got there, a lot of people who'd like to fire everybody in Washington and start anew. How else could a dolt like him get elected?

I'd vote for her based on the sheer moxy of this brilliant campaign ad.

"vote for me, I don't have a penis".

Correct. Just because Al Franken didn't want to fight doesn't mean Trump should.

Abuse of power is the modern American tale......non consensual Sadism has been ramping up for a very long time....so long as we pretend that this comes from a few bad individual actors rather than being systemic and largely agreed to we are lying to ourselves. Also so long as we pretend that this is all the fault of men....Washington is not vastly corrupt because of men, it is vastly corrupt because all of America looked the other way as it was happening, and sometimes even cheered it on.

She's calling out Clinton now??

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a longtime political ally of Bill and Hillary Clinton, said Thursday the former president should have resigned after his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky was disclosed, according to a report.
Asked if the 42nd president needed to step down nearly 20 years ago, Gillibrand told the New York Times: “Yes, I think that is the appropriate response.”

The comments by Gillibrand, who holds the Senate seat vacated by Hillary, make her the highest-profile elected Democrat to make such a statement about the former president.
he did say, however, that social mores were different in the 1990s than today, when Bill Clinton’s conduct looks particularly bad. “And I think in light of this conversation, we should have a very different conversation about President Trump, and a very different conversation about allegations against him.”
A rep for Gillibrand later parsed the senator’s statement and emphasized that Bill Clinton should have been forced to resign under today’s social mores.

So it was ok back then, but not now. I get that and why. But why do we hold people accountable today, for actions they took back when it was ok under the 'social mores' of that time.

A lot of this purity drive is driven by score settling on matters that have nothing to do with the erotic,,,,If your enemy is a man then this is the quick and dirty way to take him down, now that we believe in depriving men of their rights, driven by the feminists mandate that women are to be believed on such matters with out question.
