Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz on Monday said President Trump was within his rights as commander in chief when he fired former FBI director James Comey, and warned Democrats trying to take him down on obstruction of justice charges that they won't succeed.
"You cannot charge a president with obstruction of justice for exercising his constitutional power to fire Comey and his constitutional authority to tell the Justice Department who to investigate, who not to investigate. That's what Thomas Jefferson did, that's what Lincoln did, that's what Roosevelt did. We have precedents that clearly establish that," Dershowitz told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" Monday morning.

The Nixon argument is really helping establish that the President didn't fire someone for investigating him.
 
I watched the interview on cable this morning. Boom...... He just got uninvited to a few holiday parties.
Alan Dershowitz seems to be more interested in the law then in party politics's.

Trump doesn’t have the Constitutional authority to tell the FBI who to investigate and who not to.
 
Trump isn't worried about Obstruction of Justice. He's hiding something else.
 
The problem for many on the left is that they start with the view that Trump is illegitimate. That's incorrect, and you won't get anywhere good when you start from there.

Are you purposely missing Dershowitz's point, because that's not it. Trump can fire anyone he wants, he's the President. I don't remember Comey getting elected, do you?

No, that would actually strengthen it, since he could be compelled to testify and he'd be utterly free from worrying about legal consequences.

Dershowitz, yet again, proves how much of a media whore he is, desperately seeking attention.

If it's just a regular pardon for a specific crime, Mueller likely has a number of additional charges he can bring against Flynn. If Trump does a general pardon, he makes it more complicated for Mueller, but also more complicated for him.
 
Dershowitz, a regular Fox News columnist, leaped forward with a declaration of his own singular brilliance on Thursday, June 8 after James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee:
In his testimony former FBI Director James Comey echoed a view that I alone have been expressing for several weeks, and that has been attacked by nearly every Democratic pundit.

I shall return to that “I alone,” but only after clarifying that Dershowitz found Comey praiseworthy for
confirm[ing] “that under our Constitution, the president has the authority to direct the FBI to stop investigating any individual . . . the president can, in theory, decide who to investigate, who to stop investigating, who to prosecute and who not to prosecute. The president is the head of the unified executive branch of government, and the Justice Department and the FBI work under him and he may order them to do what he wishes.”

It may be a bit jarring to hear, but Dershowitz did say it and has repeated it since.

Regardless. It was not needed. Same as African Americans mostly vote Democratic, would it be right to say, xxx a Black American supports the President?
No it would not. Not slamming you.
Ethnicity should not have been in the OP as it did not in anyway directly impact the story.

He does have a lot more on Flynn. Basically, Flynn either never disclosed receiving money from foreign governments, or, he lied about receiving it. That's what has been reported and verified as far as I know. Mueller may have even more damaging stuff on Flynn, related to the Trump campaign. I'm not sure. But, we can be sure that Flynn is getting off easy. Whether or not he's flipped is up for not even debate really, but, just pure speculation.

Nice double-standard since liberal invented identity politics. Nice diversion from the OP article too. All I did was note that Dershowitz is a liberal, signifying support for the President from an unusual quarter.

No they didn't. Identity politics has always been with us and have often utilized populist sentiment on both the Left and the Right. See the anti-Mason movement and the Native American Party (American Party, "Know Nothing Party").
