UK and EU 'appear close to Brexit breakthrough' - BBC News

The BBC's political editor said Mr Lamberts said the UK was prepared to accept that Northern Ireland may remain in the EU's customs union and single market in all but name.

Breaking as I write, so things can change.. but damn this is political gummibears for us political nerds. The implications are wide reaching and there are a lot of "what ifs".

But it means Northern Ireland remains defacto in the EU.. will Scotland demand the same treatment? How about Wales? What about May´s government that is fully dependent on the DUP, a Northern Irish party that is against this... new elections?

Gonna go buy some popcorn, the next few hours might be very interesting.

Wow. So Brexit has likely delivered a United Ireland.

Wales, Corsica and Catalonia came to mind.

The Welsh arent interested in independence. You must mean the Scots.

That's true, the Welsh aren't. But I linked the juxtaposition of an absurdity with examples of why the EU has the the Prodi Doctrine meant to prevent cessation of provinces.

PS: I just saw on Bloomberg that Wales has said that they will want the same Arrangement as has the mayor of London, if Irland gets a special deal.
