It's the discovery of things like this that make people question the integrity of federal investigations. This guy was involved in both the Trump/Russia probe. as well as the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server.

Top FBI official assigned to Mueller’s Russia probe said to have been removed after sending anti-Trump texts
By Karoun Demirjian and Devlin Barrett December 2 at 2:02 PM

The former top FBI official assigned to special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election was taken off that job this summer after his bosses discovered he and another member of Mueller’s team had exchanged politically charged texts disparaging President Trump and supporting Hillary Clinton, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

Peter Strzok, as deputy head of counterintelligence at the FBI, was a key player in the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server to do government work as secretary of state, as well as the probe into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election.

During the Clinton investigation, Strzok was involved in a romantic relationship with FBI lawyer Lisa Page, who worked for Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, according to the people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The extramarital affair was problematic, these people said, but of greater concern among senior law enforcement officials were text messages the two exchanged during the Clinton investigation and campaign season, in which they expressed anti-Trump sentiments and other comments that appeared to favor Clinton.

It actually makes me think there is more integrity in these investigations. Mueller removed someone from the team when it was discovered he sent some sort of anti-Trump texts to someone else. That a good thing, right?

So after demonstrating a potential for bias, an agent is instantly booted from Mueller's team. And the problem here is....?

Certainly it's a good thing he was removed from the current investigation... but that was just a few months ago and he was also "a key player in the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server" back in 2016. He was part of that investigation from beginning to end, so it makes you wonder about the integrity of their findings... or lack there of.

Oh, so this is another butt-hurt "Wah, Clinton isn't in jail like I was promised" thread.

Adios.

It wouldn't be worth mentioning unless it was a "top" official. I would hope all the investigators are "top" investigators, or is the "top" reference inserted to imply that the investigation is compromised in some way?

If the story offends you, just go... You don't have to attack me by attaching false motives for creating this thread.

Me offended? I'm not the one crying because Clinton isn't in jail.

I am not so concerned about the Meuller team but I am about this part of this article:

During the Clinton email investigation, Page was a regular participant when Comey would hold “skinny group’’ meetings on the case — a small collection of advisers that gathered to address sensitive cases, according to people familiar with the case.

I give Mueller credit for running a tight ship, and his decisive action in canning the guy.

In what's become a highly partisan environment, leadership like this is far too uncommon today.

Why wouldn't he? He has plenty more Democrat donors on his team to rely on....

This situation could get real interesting if this is a strategic leak by Mueller's team. I am not saying that this is what this is. I am just saying it could be a possiblity and if so this situation could get real interesting when the IG releases their report. They said they should be able to release it in early January.

Word of the messages and the affair were news to Nunes, even though the committee had issued a subpoena that covered information about Strzok's demotion more than three months ago. The committee's broadly worded subpoena for information related to the so-called Trump dossier went to the FBI and FOJ on Aug. 24. In follow-up conversations on the scope of the subpoena, committee staff told the FBI and DOJ that it included information on the circumstances of Strzok's reassignment.
On Oct. 11, Nunes met with deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein. In that meeting, Nunes specifically discussed the committee's request for information about Strzok.

In an Oct. 31 committee staff meeting with the FBI, bureau officials refused a request for information about Strzok.

On Nov. 20, the committee again requested an interview with Strzok. (Three days earlier, on November 17, Strzok met with the Senate Intelligence Committee.)

On Nov. 29, Nunes again spoke to Rosenstein, and again discussed Strzok.

On Dec. 1, the committee again requested to speak with Strzok.

After each occasion, the FBI and DOJ did nothing. Now, in what appears to be an orchestrated leak, both the Post and Times published the reason for Strzok's demotion, along with concerns that the revelation might help President Trump.

Byron York: Nunes blows up, threatens contempt after FBI stonewalls House on Russia investigator demoted for anti-Trump bias

Statement from the Office of the Inspector General statement yesterday:

The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General released the following statement in response to inquiries today:
The January 2017 statement issued by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) announcing its review of allegations regarding various actions of the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in advance of the 2016 election stated that the OIG review would, among other things, consider whether certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations and that we also would include issues that might arise during the course of the review. The OIG has been reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals, and will report its findings regarding those allegations promptly upon completion of the review of them.

They never should have been hired in the first place.

Thank you for pointing out Muellers integrity and non partisanship in this issue.

Why is his entire investigation team filled with Hillary supporters? He couldn't find some impartial people?

Good on Mueller, reassigning this biased FBI agent.

Not so good on Comey for not doing the same during the illegal Hillary email server investigation.

The fix was already in for the Hillary email investigation, and probably needs to be re-examined, now that this bias has been not successfully hidden and now uncovered, and also due to Comey's exonerating memo draft before even her interview, and also due to lack of intent in the applicable standard that Comey injected, and many other questionable events and actions during the course of this torrid story.

Mueller hid it from Congress despite their repeated requests for info.

That’s what you might call a Kangaroo Court. With Mueller the Head Kangaroo.

Byron York: Nunes blows up, threatens contempt after FBI stonewalls House on Russia investigator demoted for anti-Trump bias

"By hiding from Congress, and from the American people, documented political bias by a key FBI head investigator for both the Russia collusion probe and the Clinton email investigation, the FBI and DOJ engaged in a willful attempt to thwart Congress' constitutional oversight responsibility," Nunes said in a statement Saturday afternoon. "This is part of a months-long pattern by the DOJ and FBI of stonewalling and obstructing this committee's oversight work, particularly oversight of their use of the Steele dossier. At this point, these agencies should be investigating themselves."

It’s time to call on a Special Investigator to investigate this group. Mueller and Comey are up to their ears in Uranium One.

Because a disproportionate number of these appointees are Hillary backers and otherwise hardcore partisans. You wouldn't hire a bunch of blood red Republicans to have sole power to investigate (and potentially charge) a person with anything. The selective enforcement would be obvious. So why would anyone be comfortable with these dyed-in-the-wool Hillary supporters having sole investigation powers? It wouldn't be that hard to find independent people, but that's not what happened.

I think there is a lot more to this story that hasn't come out yet. This guy was in the middle of everything related to Hillary Clinton, and was huge pro-Clinton.

Now that's interesting. I'm glad Mueller did take him off the team, but I do wonder why they are refusing to let anyone talk to Strzok or get any information.

Nunes is getting pissed.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) has suggested he will move to hold top Justice Department officials in contempt of Congress by the end of December, after accusing the DOJ of withholding information about the Russia probe from his committee.

His latest threats come after reports that a top FBI agent had been removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe because it was discovered that he had sent texts, that, as the New York Times described them, “expressed anti-Trump political views.” The agent, Peter Strzok, had worked on the Russia probe before it was taken over by Mueller and also played a key role in the FBI’s Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Nunes blasted the Justice Department and the FBI Saturday in a statement to the Washington Examiner that said, “By hiding from Congress, and from the American people, documented political bias by a key FBI head investigator for both the Russia collusion probe and the Clinton email investigation, the FBI and DOJ engaged in a willful attempt to thwart Congress’ constitutional oversight responsibility.”

Mueller clearly has a iron clad rule, there will be complete secrecy as they work, except when Mueller decides that he wants information released.

They just recently cleared Strzok to speak with the committee. I think the threat of contempt finally budged them. It seems like the DOJ is playing cat and mouse with the committee and just giving as little as they think they have to, depending on what action the committee takes.
