Terrorist Hafiz Saeed who planned the 2008 attack on Mumbai, India in which 164 civilians were killed including 6 American citizens

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — The United States has called on Pakistan to arrest and charge an Islamist cleric accused of masterminding the 2008 attacks on India's financial capital. Pakistani authorities acting on a court order Friday freed Hafiz Saeed from nearly 11 months of house arrest in the eastern city of Lahore. The detention had stemmed from the terrorism allegations against the firebrand cleric. Washington has been offering a $10 million reward since 2012 for information leading to Saeed's arrest and conviction. U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert promptly criticized Saeed's release, saying the U.S. was "deeply concerned." In a statement, she went on to say the cleric leads an organization that has been responsible for the death of hundreds of innocent civilians in terrorist attacks, including a number of Americans. "The Pakistani government should make sure that he is arrested and charged for his crimes," the statement read. The U.S. and the United Nations have both declared Saeed's JuD a global terrorist organization, calling it a front for the outlawed Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group blamed for carrying out the Mumbai carnage.

The New Delhi government had supplied Pakistani investigators with four intercepted phone calls in which Saeed admits planning and funding the Mumbai attack. Islamabad certainly knew Saeed was wanted by the FBI.

Why is Pakistan not on the US terror watch list? The US has provided Islamabad with $33 billion in foreign aid since 2002 to combat terrorism. Pakistan's security service (Inter-Services Intelligence/ISI) is complicit in the deaths of hundreds of US soldiers in Afghanistan due to its financial and arms support of the Taliban. The ISI also works with Afghan warlords to safeguard shipments of heroin.

Pakistan is a rogue state. They hid obl for years while pretending to fight terrorism. How a country that hides the world's most wanted terrorist is not considered a rogue state is unbelievable.

Pakistan should be added to the list if for no other reason the prevalence of Pakistanis in the UK that engage in sexual assaults and sex crime trafficking. The reason they arent on the list of 7 states is that unlike the 7 other states, the Pakistani government still cooperates with the US government in investigations and the vetting process...something the other states are unable or unwilling to do. Because the 'ban' is not a Muslim ban. It never was.

Pakistan really likes their F-16's. Aid has been falling for quite sometime even as Trump threatens to cut it. Last year it was less than a billion dollars.

We have to work with evil countries and leaders all the time. As long as we're in Afghanistan, we don't have much choice. Once we leave, I have no problem with designating them terrorists. It will come at a cost. Its nice to have a Muslim country as an Ally in that part of the world. The geopolitical land scape will change drastically in the next ten years.

It does and the Chinese have more influence than the US.
India is the partner for the US / Western Countries in Asia.
Pakistan is a failing State.

Problem with the ban is that it didn't ban terrorists. Trump didn't include saudi arabia, the country that attacked us and pakistan they country that hid bin laden. It was just a half hearted attempt to please his base.

Can't disagree with that. China is becoming a real threat, in many ways, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. What did we do to them when they hack the personal information of millions of people who have clearances? Nothing. Why? Because we can't, so we appease.

Eh...they cooperate and they don't. I'd characterize their overall cooperation as superficial at best and overall a net loss.

TPP would have given Asian partners an out while sidelining China.

It would've crushed our economy and working class more than is already happening.

Sure. But if Trump added Pakistan to the list the leftist would just **** themselves...again.

The list as constituted by President Obama involved nations that cannot or will not reliably participate in the vetting process. Nothing more. I suspect you know that.

There was no travel ban from Obama. That lie was perpetuated by the trump admin to justify the reason that his half-assed travel ban didn't include any actual sponsors of terror.

Who said that there was a travel ban from Obama based on the intel? No one. That's who. Perhaps you should get the facts straight before making up your own?

However the list was constituted by Obama due to the fact that those 7 nations were unwilling or unable to assist in effective vetting processes. Correct?

Nope. Incorrect.

Pakistan isn't an ally - it's a Frenemy at best, and a dangerous double-dealing backstabber at worst. They don't have the power to tell the US to go to hell, so they instead choose to "bend like the reed" - outwardly agreeing to support the US, while looking for ways to undermine the US agenda behind the scenes. Like Saudi, Pakistan has long depended upon fomenting the most barbaric militant Islam possible - but while the Saudis are now trying to back away from that path and switch to a more progressive one, Pakistan is still hellbent on its same dangerous path as always.

Pakistan releases militant sought by America over 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 168

Pakistan was very aware that Hafiz Saeed was wanted by the FBI for the murder of 6 Americans in the Mumbai attack of 2008.

The US has a $10 million detain and extradite bounty on Saeed. Yet Islamabad freed him unconditionally.

The US should just walk away from this failed ****hole of a country that has supported the Taliban since before 9/11.

Maybe we can go for isolationism? Build a nice shield and worry about our population for once.

Rogue Valley:

Fishking was right. The collective nuts of the US are in a Pakistani vice and you are trapped in this unholy mess. To walk away from a nuclear-armed and politically unstable Pakistan might cause a worst-case scenario in South Asia that nobody wants to deal with. Better to have some limited, albeit costly and unreliable, influence on this den of thieves and zealots than to have no influence at all and thus have to deal with unrestrained nuclear proliferation and a possible Indo-Pakistani thermonuclear exchange. You're screwed either way but just perhaps less screwed if you play ball.

Cheers and good luck.
Evilroddy.

We've played nice with the backstabbing Pakistanis long enough.

It's time to cut bait with this Islamist and unstable ****hole.

The Pak Army runs the country from the shadows, and they're able to summon mobs of fundamentalists onto the streets, in order to exert pressure on the civilian govt:
