Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort took at least 18 trips to Moscow during his time as a political operative in Ukraine, McClatchy reported Thursday. Manafort was also in frequent contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s allies for nearly a decade during his time working for pro-Russia political parties in Ukraine, according to the report. Flight records, provided to McClatchy by a government source in Kiev, show the extent of Manafort’s connection to Russia was greater than previously known. In addition to his trips to Moscow, the news outlet reported that Manafort also flew to Kiev 19 times, even after Putin ally Viktor Yanukovych was ousted as Ukraine's president in 2014. Manafort and his former associate Richard Gates were charged last month with conspiracy against the United States, tax fraud and money laundering in the first indictment to come from the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Lil Paulie really got around. Manafort and Rick Gates, together with Russian oligarch/Putin crony Oleg Deripaska, laundered ~$75 million through Cyprus banks. At one point, Manafort and Deripaska were partners in buying a telecommunications company in Ukraine. The deal went sour and Deripaska sued Manafort. It seems Manafort may have offered to trade Trump campaign insider information to Deripaska in return for Deripaska forgetting about what Manafort owed him from the bad business deal.

You just have such a high degree of anti-Trump animus that you project confirmation bias into anything remotely having to do with him, even if he's on the periphery by merely knowing someone and wasn't actually involved in said alleged crimes.

If you wish to claim he had close ties to this guy prior to 2016, let's see your case. From what I've seen, they at most saw each other in passing occasionally.

Your problem is that you blindly accept every vague "source" the media dredges up. Comey testified a few months ago that most of the stuff the media was reporting about Trump to that time was a bunch of bull****.

Unless anything new about manafort brings up proof against someone else, it is a literall nothingburger, for the simple fact every knew he was a russian stooge for quite a while, the trump campaign even kicked him to the curb when they realized how toxic he was.

But this is nothing new, wake us all up when something on manafort brings up info on someone other than those who were charged and everyone already knew would be charged.

Why did Trump have a Russian asset running his campaign and later appoint a foreign agent as national security adviser?

What's the benign explanation folks are going with? He's just an idiot? "Nothing to see here, he's just putty in the hands of foreign intelligence services" isn't much more reassuring than malice.

So normally you would consider anyone who you believe partnered with someone on X or Y investment over the years to be aware, culpable, and involved in any criminal activity the other investor does in that time frame?

At the very least, it demonstrates that the Trump team never vetted his appointments, and ignored the many warnings about Flynn.

A Foreign Agent as campaign manager and a Foreign Agent as his National Security Adviser.

Remember, Trump only picks the best people. He's said it numerous times. Manafort, Flynn, Jared, Jr., these are all people to whom Trump gave tremendous responsibilities. Don't you feel that reflects on Trump's judgement?
