German election: Preliminary coalition talks collapse after FDP walks out
Germany's Free Democrats have called off coalition talks with Angela Merkel's CDU/CSU bloc and the Greens. FDP head Christian Lindner said that after weeks of negotiations the parties could not find a "basis of trust".

Merkel said she regretted the breakdown of talks, noting that she and her conservative bloc believed they were "on a path where we could have reached an agreement."
"I regret, with full respect for the FDP, that we could not come to a mutual agreement," she told reporters shortly after midnight local time.
Free Democrats left talks
An hour earlier, FDP head Christian Lindner announced that his party had walked out of the negotiations after "reached compromises were questioned again."
"It is better not to govern than to govern wrongly," he said.

So, Merkel could not get it done. I am a little surprised that the Germans are showing her some spine.

What's next I have no idea.

You?

?

One has to wonder I think how much this has to do with the failure of the Green Energy programs, and their future.

From what I can hear, nobody has a plan forwards. It is constitutionally in the hands of the Bundespräsident (Steinmeier) to make the next move. He can ask someone to try to form a government again. He can call a new election, but he had indicate that he would prefer that the parties shoulder responsibility under the present mandate. This might put pressure on the SPD (Social Democrats) to retract their pledge to opposition.

Till then the now acting Bundeskanzler (Merkel) rules with a Bundestag (lower house) that did not give a majority to her. Major legislation would be nearly impossible, but on a daily basis the main parties are close enough to care take efficiently enough. Political discussion would be fractured with much more competition of ideology and ideas, however and this might make the major traditional parties nervous. Steinmeier is a SPD man, though he had to lay off membership as Bundespräsident. How this or his closeness to Schröder who enabled Steinmeier’s political career is unclear. After all, Schröder and he assisted Putin in nudging Saddam to resist in negotiations with the UN concerning wmd and Schröder now works for Putin.

Interesting....what do you figure are the point(s) they cant get to agreement on.....generally.....I said maybe the way forward on the energy mess, which is getting expensive with big problems still to come.

One has to wonder I think how much this has to do with the failure of the Green Energy programs, and their future.

Germany is one of the greenest countries on the planet, its green programs are wildly popular, aren't failing and had nothing to do with the FDP walking away from the table.

Don't just inject your own highly uninformed opinion into something you know absolutely nothing about. Climate change denial is a uniquely American phenomenon and everyone here thinks you people are nutters. They're right. Even the FDP admits climate change is real and should be fought by reducing emissions.

There is a feeling out there that Merkel might have planned this outcome. The FDP has been very clear on its unwillingness to sign off on the costs Macron of France appears to have agreed with Merkel on. Strengthening EU unity is the legacy Merkel craves and Macron promises her that, if Germany pays enough of French fiscal consumption and enables an EU military outside of NATO.

On the other hand, German per capital co2 emissions are not dissimilar to those of a number of US States and even higher than some, while internationally the are not so very good. On top of this, the country is a major producer of machinery like automobiles that emit much more climate gas than it had reported. Now wealthy regions would stumble, if the profitability of the automotive sector falls off, which is a reason for the extended fraud by that industry and why the efficient methods for co2 reduction have not been followed up. This might change, but the negotiations with the Greens did not give the impression that the green dream is going to be rapidly brought into reality.

It largely has to do with the Greens wanting more illegal invader types, and the CSU/CDU/FDP not wanting the Green’s suicide mission.

Merkel lost a lot of votes because of her moronic invitation to illegal invaders.

Thilo Sarazin (SPD) deserves a huge apology from the media and their followers.

Interestingly, The Greens in Austria have died as a party. They didn’t make it into the last parliament. Unforunately for Germany, the Greens here won’t disappear into irrelevancy any time soon.

Their green projects are heavily subsidized, and they have turned the country into a monoculture of corn/maize because the government subsidized a Biogasanlage (Biogas plants) heavily.

A friend of mine make a nice killing in that business, while it lasted, as when the subsidies died, so did that part of the industry.

As he told and then asked... it takes 180 to 360 Hectares of corn to supply one of these stations. Where is all the corn going to come from? Most likely they’ll have to import biomass like the Brits do... wood chips from Canada.

Germany is now a country that is basically a monostand of corn. Tell me how “green” that is for the environment? How wonderful that is for the ground water. It’s idiocy.

As for the FDP... and Germany in general, not everyone believed in the global warming hysteria, and it’s surprising there are detractors because:

1. It’s all you hear in the media. You never hear from detractors. With such a lopsided brain washing, it’s no wonder many believe the nonsense.

2. The FDP isn’t going to piss against the hysteria of global warming... not yet. They just recovered from some lean years; basically in the political wilderness.

3. Most people are uninformed followers in Germany, afraid to speak out against the crowd. They don’t want or need the grief.

The supposed “Green” success is about as believable as the German auto industry.

The collapse came as a surprise since the main sticking points – immigration and climate change policy – were not seen as FDP signature issues.

FYI...

The FDP... they’re not insane like the Greens.

Christian Lindner... good for you.

I'm still pissed at Merkel over the refugee business. I think it's destroying German culture in the long run.

What Merkel certainly achieved with the timing of her invitation to the refugies was to impact the voters in the UK towards Brexit making it more probable. One might speculate to which extent the Chancellery was acting purposefully, missed the implications for the nearing referendum or just didn't care. That one should doubt her qualities and intensions seems quite well advised.

I think she's just an idiot bleeding heart.

Germans aren’t the most tolerant for starters, and this influx of non-westerners is going to have distastrous long term effects.

These are not like the Turks who come to Germany to work during the industrial boom.

Oh, well, it’s hit the ventilator already, and will keep hitting it.

Any yet Co2 reduction is not happening, and yet there are all kinds of problems with how Germany under Merkel decided to go about trying to do it, with some of the biggest problems still to be faced. .

German electricity prices are high... and they are importing US Coal (see below)... despite their large brown coal mining operations in the east near the Cottbus region... and the environmental nutjobs are trying to close those down. It’s why the Swedish energy group sold their interests to Czechs and Poles... ROTFLOL.

Germany isn’t the place for renewable energy. It’s not sunny, has no major rivers that can be converted to hydro.

They’ve turned their farmlands into a basic monoculture of maize/corn... for biogas... which does wonders for the groundwater. These stations, which popped up like mushrooms during the subsidized years, require 180 to 360 Hectares of corn... where will it all come from? Likely from imported biomass like the Brits do... importing it from Canada. Now that’s green energy!!!

Second, climate change and energy. After Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant disaster in 2011, Merkel unilaterally decided to shut down Germany’s non-polluting nuclear plants and, in a country with unreliable sun and wind, rely on renewables. So Germany now imports American coal, has higher emissions and has hugely high electric rates.

In a state that thieves from its citizens mightily... let’s see the long term effects of their green idiocies and its high costs.

I have no idea what is in store for Germany, but I can guess that its going to get far worse. Before it even hints at getting the least bit better for them.

Merkel seriously damaged the country when she let all of those immigrants and refugees in. Its even more sad that we get to watch it happen and can share such information freely. While people over there can't even mention some of it for fear of getting sent to jail over broadly defined hate-speech laws.
