Woman who accused Franken says she accepts his apology

We used to be able to joke about everything, when we were better, it was good for us.
Maybe it's more funny when you're the one with the hands and not the breasts.

See my signature.

Girlfriend, you are preaching to the choir. I never figured out how someone who bragged about sexual assault on tape could get elected.

Yet now I see people giving Roy Moore a pass, and I am no longer surprised.

Humanity is officially in the toilet.

Can't help but wonder if this momentum happened before the election of things would have been different.

What an odd twist.

I saw her statement live. She seemed totally taken off guard when a reporter told her he had apologized. She decided to accept and then brought up a later encounter when he could have apologized. It was like he stole her thunder by not denying. Like she had a part 1 part 2 kind of plan laid out.

Then we get a second "accuser" shortly after. Not sexual, but the headlines make it sound that way.

I still tend to be a little suspiscious when a bunch of women pile on all of a sudden after decades.

Even with all the pressures to keep quiet it always seems odd that at least one didn't come out. Or tell a father brother or boyfriend/husband who raised hell about it.

I am amused that the left is turning on its dirtballs with lightning speed leaving the right with nothing to point to in defense of their dirtballs.

Are any of you thinking "who's next?" Jeepers...

This is a good thing. Finally it seems women are getting their justice and men are getting their education. Good -- it's about time.

Its not just women being harassed, the record proves that.

Usually we don't have photographs of it taking place.

It isn't a photograph of him actively groping her. It is a photo of him pretending to do it. Still horrible, but the photo isn't the big issue here. The forced kiss is the assault. The photo is stupid immature crap.

Wonder if the right will hold a senatorial candidate's feet to the fire like they are doing a sitting senator?

No

They already are. About half of Senate Republicans have called for him to step aside, and several prominent conservative publications have run articles condemning him and calling for him to step aside.

I am happy to see the Dems come down hard on Franken. Its just a shame the ***** grabber gets a free pass, for now !!

For those who don't remember, or were never aware, Franken left SNL under a cloud. The rest of the performing staff voted him out. Norm McDonald took his place. The former Air America DJ was told to "skedaddle" by Bill Murray. Apparently, Old Fish Lips put the hands on moves on two of Murray's girlfriends, spilling the beans to both about both. Jill Culhoda, one of those women, later got an order of protection against Franken, after a drunken brawl with Murray at Patrick's Pub (before it was burnt down and rebuilt, a site of many drunken brawls between couples) in Woodside Queens. Why she didn't get an order against Bill, who was a known abuser when drunk, I don't know. Yup, two heroes of comedy with a strong distaste for each other have histories of abuse. Both have histories of cheating on their spouses and companions. Franni Bryson, Al's wife, when once asked why she stood by Al for 40+ years, knowing his habits, said, "he stood by me when I fought my alcoholism." It was Franni who really won Al's senate seat. Those crazy Harvard kids.

Everyone has skeletons in the closet.

Franken really didn't do anything criminal. He never touched his accuser, and thought he was being funny. (I admit, I would have probably grabbed her, and pretended it was in good clean fun. I say probably, because I feared my wife's wrath.) This is why so many are disbelieving all these accusers, with many apparently blowing things out of proportion years after the fact, or not fact. Yes, I don't like Franken, and I'm defending him. Because this has all gotten out of hand, ridiculous and boring. Think about that. Abuse is a serious issue, and many, after all the headlines are now finding it blasé. A self defeating Crusade. Calling Don Quixote.

I think I'll go flirt with a 14 year old, no a 15 year old, my grandniece is having dinner with us tonight. She bringing her fiddle and her brother. He's bringing his mandolin. My guitars are already here. Bluegrass after dinner. She's been known to hit me if I get lost in a run, or blow the rhythm, or play the wrong chords. My wife likes that. Saves her the effort.

If we took office in 2009 what would an Ethics investigation look at? If he was a senator and she worked in congress I would agree.

By trying to criminalize our political system we look more and more like a banana republic IMO.

I look at it this way...

Yes, this is something that happened a while back and this woman basically wanted her public apology for Sen. Franken's rude and uninvited behavior. If this were a one-time deal, I'd say there's really no need to hold an ethics hearing. He had his fun, she got her apology, it happened in the past...let's move on. Same can be said of GHW Bush grabbing a little bum during a photo-op. He's a former POTUS, a[n] (dirty?) old man w/one foot in the grave. Victim had her 15 minutes of fame; everyone knows Bush, Sr isn't a habitual sex offender/sexual predator. He apologized for this one slip in decency. Let's move on.

Bill Cosby, Harvey Weistien, Kevin Spacy, Louis CK, Roy Moore...they don't get a pass. Why? Because their sexual deviancy was habitual and predatory and very likely unlawful (particularly in those cases where rape and sexual abuse is alleged).

So, a one-time incident that happened in the past and by all accounts was just guys being guys, kidding around and meant no harm, I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over that. The others...yeah, that's a big deal.

Yes.

Indeed ...The "kiss" is an unproven allegation...This is all political of course...Look for Fox and Hannity to be outraged and call for Franken to be executed

Well it shouldn't surprise you. By coming out they usually have more to lose than to gain when they do. So when one gets the courage to stand up and open the floogates on her own, you can often expect there to be a flood behind her.

Agreed. I thought the photo was sophmoric. But that unwanted physical bit... That's beyond the pale. I don't think the photo should be a reason for him to resign, but the forcible unwanted kissing may very well be reason enough.

Yes, you're right. Thanks for the correction. But I will say, though, the it's pretty much all men who are committing the assaults.

I honestly think that ratio will change. Men still hold the power positions and abuse that power. Women will gain equality of numbers in power positions and I'll bet that the assault ratios change with it.

Woman who accused Franken says she accepts his apology | TheHill

Apology accepted, but the ethics investigation should go forwards.

I'm so sick of investigations I could puke. The woman accuses Franken of these things and has proof through pictures, Franken apologizes, she accepts the apology, - what in the hell is there to investigate? It's like having an investigation to see if milk spoils if it is left out. Congress can't get anything done because they have one million investigations going on, many of which where there is really nothing to investigate. Mueller was appointed to see if Trump obstructed justice by firing Comey. We already know the facts. We already have what Trump has said. What the hell is there to investigate? Make a damn decision already. Apparently there was no solid proof that he was actually guilty of obstructing justice so they decided to widen the investigation to find out if Trump paid Russian prostitutes for golden showers. All of these one million investigations of both Republicans and Democrats are costing us millions of dollars and we are getting absolutely nothing in return. Meanwhile Congress doesn't get anything done. It's all political hogwash on both sides.

Not saying you're wrong, but I'm not convinced. Women are generally not driven by sex as men. We are wired differently.

You investigate to see if this is a recurring problem.

Agreed. I don't think that if women had as many power jobs as men they would abuse equally as much. Im just saying that as the numbers of powerful women increase so will the abuse of power as a total. Not as an increase in percentage.

I can agree with that.

Franken has admitted to the incident, apologized, had that apology accepted, and has called for himself to be investigated. He also has a lengthy history of pro-feminism and of advancing civil rights, including women's empowerment.

All of which is moore than either Trump or Moore has managed.

I would say particularly if more women come forward. One is stupid.. and while it appears to be a 'joke', it was in extremely poor taste, and unethical. If more come forward.. it's a pattern.

Yeah, if this is all there is I don't think he should be forced from office. But if anyone else steps forward, the guy could be in big trouble.
