Alleged Rand Paul attacker out on bail, facing low-level charge as mystery surrounds motive

WASHINGTON — The violent altercation last week that left Senator Rand Paul nursing bruised lungs and broken ribs began over a landscaping dispute between the senator and his longtime next-door neighbor, according to neighbors and three Kentucky Republicans familiar with what transpired.
Mr. Paul had just stepped off a riding lawn mower on Friday when Rene Boucher, a retired anesthesiologist who lived next door, charged and tackled him. Because Mr. Paul was wearing sound-muting earmuffs, he did not realize Mr. Boucher was coming, according to one of the Kentucky Republicans and a friend familiar with the altercation.

Well that was anticlimactic.

When I heard they were next door neighbors I immediately thought "this is some lily white rich suburbian HOA bull**** isn't it." I was pretty close.

All I know is that as of now I'm keeping my lawn trim AF.

Most municipalities have regs that are from late evening till dawn. Unless he was mowing at night.....
They do come with headlights.

without knowing more about this, it seems pretty strange. five broken ribs aren't a minor injury at all, and the charges seem fairly light, especially for blindside tackling a member of congress. i wonder WTF is going on here.
Could be Paul doesn't want to make a big deal. Very fishy indeed.

I would not be surprised.

They are calling it a "flora incident". :lamo :lamo

I can make so many jokes about that, but this thing reeks of conspiracy. Maybe they both agreed to do this for a bit of publicity for Rand. He's definitely enough of a hack to do something like this. Then his neighbor might have went too far....

Or it could have been about a different type of flower (yes that's one of the jokes I was talking about before.)

i wondered about that. however, when you blindside a dude and bust his ribs, it doesn't seem like it would require his permission to charge the other guy with something more serious than fourth degree assault. i suppose that it's a different legal system when money and influence meet up for tea, though.

Way back in the late 70, a one year baby kicked me while holding it and cracked a rib and I was surprised how much pain it would cause. Now in those days I ran marathons and was basically skin and bones so nothing protected my ribs except skin. But it was not fun - with just one cracked rib. Paul must be going through hell.I wonder if this whole thing does not involve something more important than just land or a property dispute? Maybe its much much more personal.

Loved the axiom quip, I gotta hope I don't say that kinda crap to my neighbors :p

This happened to my wife with our child as well. Baby I think moved around on her elbows while on her chest, and pop! She was in some serious pain, hard to breath without pain, coughing, sneezing were traumatic. She always rubs it in my face that I was all like "how did the baby break your ribs? Must just be sore!", but the xray said otherwise.

I don't understand why the police needed to be involved at all. This is government overreach, they should have just let the clearly visible fists of the free market sort things out.

OK, that is funny as hell.

Perhaps they should sort it out over a doobie.

Ok..here's another source...
