DNC: White Men Shouldn't Apply for Tech Jobs

In an email seeking job applicants for various positions, the IT Manager for the Democratic National Committee stated that straight white males need not apply:

DNC: White men shouldn't apply for tech jobs | Fox News

White men need not apply.

That’s the message from a Democratic National Committee data services manager, currently on the hunt to filll multiple vacancies in the tech department.

The political organization, which routinely makes grand statements about inclusion, recently sent an email to its employees looking to recruit people for eight open spots including IT Systems Administrator, Product Manager and Chief Security Officer.


Though the Oct. 30 email says that the DNC is looking for a “staff of diverse voices and life experiences,” it apparently doesn’t mean white men.

DNC’s Data Service Manager Madeleine Leader purportedly wrote in an email that the desire for diversity excludes “cisgender straight white males.”

Leader adds, “I personally would prefer that you not forward to cisgender straight white males, as they are already in the majority.”

Cisgender is a term for people whose gender identity matches the sex that they were assigned to at birth.


So basically, the Democratic Party has such a strong culture against racism and discrimination, that they feel quite comfortable in openly practicing - wait for it - racism and discrimination.

Not being a white male myself, I just want to understand how this party is able to get anything useful done, when they're putting so much effort into reinforcing prejudices into each other.

Maybe at failed businesses, successful ones pick the best person regardless of their race, gender or sexual orientation

Shouldn't the qualifications be to not get hacked?

If the DNC had qualified people in the tech department..... maybe they wouldn't be in the situation they are in now.

People need to understand when you work at a tech company, the good ones, they run like well-oiled machines. You see some engineers at Microsoft or Google, and its like they are robots.

Tech companies don't have time or money to waste on social experiments. If white men are the most qualified, then the company should just hire all white men. Diversity quotas are not helpful for these companies. That's why in Silicon Valley the majority of workers are white males.

The question people should be asking is why aren't more females applying for these jobs? It really starts in the beginning. Girls in this country aren't interested in tech when they young. That's not how they are wired. Western women are more neurotic/scattered brain and don't have the discipline to be in that field.

um no. I can't make any sense out of this statement. I assume there's some sarcasm involved, but there are so many potential strawmen implied, it's hard to see how it relates to what I said.

There is no reason to assume that encouraging diversity means hiring unqualified people. Generally speaking, there are multiple qualified applicants for most positions and the standards for differentiating between them are not objective to say the least. My guess is that the people working at the DNC are probably as qualified as any tech department offering similar pay and benefits and that if they actually made an effort to find qualified individuals that are a little bit different, they could find them.

Isn't that a shame? Hopefully we will judge by character, attitude and qualification instead of the color of skin..some day.

The problem is that, even all qualifications being equal, being a minority will work against you for really basic mathematical reasons. If an office has a finite number of openings (and it always will), then the majority of applicants will be the majority demographic. In that scenario, since the openings are finite then the odds are in favor of the openings being filled before you ever get a seat in the interview room.

Umm, you should re-read the post I was responding to. It was implying that hiring of white cisgendered males involves some kind of pampering or coddling of them.
