President Donald Trump is calling for the death penalty for the New York City suspected terrorist who killed eight people and is backtracking on his suggestion that he was open to sending the attacker to the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. "Would love to send the NYC terrorist to Guantanamo but statistically that process takes much longer than going through the Federal system…There is also something appropriate about keeping him in the home of the horrible crime he committed. Should move fast. DEATH PENALTY!" Trump posted in a pair of tweets Thursday morning. Trump also argued that the U.S. justice system takes too long and that authorities "have to come up with punishment that's far quicker ... than the punishment these animals are getting right now."

Doesn't Trump realize that all defendants are entitled to a fair and impartial trial in the US? Doesn't he realize that his inflammatory statements [as president] actually hamper the prosecution?

The defense lawyers for Bowe Bergdahl (pleaded guilty to desertion) are now arguing in court for a lighter sentence due to Trumps public comment that Bergdahl is a "traitor".

Wasn't John Kelly supposed to rein-in such stupid and ill-advised public tweets by Trump? Mr. Kelly ... consider employing duct tape and mittens.

Trump doesn't like or care about the United States justice system.

Just more evidence Trump is basically a 9 year old who is unable to comprehend the slightest advance in thought.

Most everyone knows you get a legal defense, a trial, and then a JUDGE doles out the punishment, if guilty.

Not some DC bureaucrat with Russia on his mind, hate in his heart, and a need to distract.

Charles Manson almost got a mistrial after Nixon basically declared him guilty. One would hope a president with a modicum of impulse control would refrain from such commentary. Unfortunately, we do not have such a president.

That actually didn't get far, because Trump said that when he was still a private citizen. In this new case, though, it is more likely to be an issue if he faces federal or military courts. I don't know the effect if he is prosecuted by NY State.

He will simply pardon himself. Not that he could do that legally - but he would attempt it just the same and test it in the Court - which he already tilted to his favor with the stolen ninth seat he snatched from Obama.

News Flash for you... The Las Vegas shooter is DEAD. Talk about an ignorant post. New York does not have a death penalty. The only way this guy gets the death penalty is if the federal government tries him. He has been charged with providing material support to ISIS, violence and destruction of motor vehicles. The murder counts will be a state charge.

Which is utterly irrelevant to the fact that Trump is tainting any potential jury pool.

"Saipov faces two charges, one of which carries the death penalty if the government chooses to seek it, Manhattan acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim said.

The charges are one count of violence and destruction of motor vehicles causing the deaths of eight people and one count of providing material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization - Islamic State, also known as ISIS."

They certainly helped arrange it through this foolish immigration quota. Immigration isn't owed. If a country's national commits terror against the US, then that country should be barred from sending nationals to the US. That'll light a fire under them to straighten out their affairs pretty quickly.

Quit whining! No matter what President Trump says, you will cry about something. This piece of **** deserves his fast and speedy trial, then a nice stay on death row in Indiana. I know the liberals have to defend him. They are always on the side of lawbreakers, criminals, and illegals.

Can't wait for Trump to bar his Saudi friends. Your notion of collective guilt has been tried before... More or less abandoned... Plus, the immigration bill was passed by both parties and signed by Bush I. Intended to increase number of Irish immigrants. Obviously democrats are to blame.
