Where's the hand? Heather Lind and Former President George H.W. Bush in 2014

Former US president George H W Bush has reportedly apologised for his "attempt at humour" after an actress accused him of sexual assault. Heather Lind, 34, alleged the former US leader "sexually assaulted" her when they posed for a photograph several years ago, according to a since deleted Instagram post. "He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side. He told me a dirty joke," she posted, according to the Mail Online. Ms Lind did not give any specifics about where Mr Bush had touched her.

In the Instagram post, Lind, who has starred in AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies, said the president touched her a second time and "Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say 'not again'." "His security guard told me I shouldn't have stood next to him for the photo," added Lind. The disclosure follows a wave of sexual assault victims coming forward to name their accusers, after similar allegations made against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

From his wheelchair? With wife Barbara standing nearby? Jeez Louise

Shocked at how some can't keep their hands to themselves. What happened to personal space?

Well at least he's apologised, which is more than Trump will ever do.

Not nearby - by his side - she would have witnessed the so-called assault. This actress sounds like a gold digger. What trauma did she suffer, that she feels she was assaulted, and now has to come forth about it after so many years?

I remember when I was a teenager working in a department store. There was this burly gal who used to pinch guys butts. One time I'm lifting something on to a shelf, and I feel her hand on my ass giving me a pinch. I looked over at her surprised, and see her grinning. Then later I heard some other guys talking about getting the same treatment from her. We all just laughed it off. She was a friendly person and not mean-spirited at all.

Women complain about not getting equal treatment in this world, but too many are so emotionally fragile.

I'm curious what the "joke" + touch was, but she didn't specify. Probably didn't say anything until now since people are speaking up en masse.

Got to point out something... Bush is old. Old, and getting decrepit.

Maybe some of you haven't dealt with really old people much, but many of them them get strange. They don't think clearly some of the time. Their behavioral regulators break down, and they may do things that they wouldn't normally have done... like grope someone.

We actually had such an incident at our most recent family reunion. An elder lady, my aunt, (pushing 90) has gotten a little senile. Sometimes she's fine, other times she's a little vague on who she's talking to or where she is. Well, my 40yo nephew in law got groped by her when they were sitting side-by-side, with his wife standing ten feet away.

She would never have acted like that in her right mind; she's always been principled and traditional and her behavior is simply inconceivable except that her mind is going and she wasn't fully aware of what she was doing.

We let it go and pretended it didn't happen; it wasn't worth making an issue of it. She can barely walk across the room unaided, its not like she's a threat to anyone. She probably didn't even remember doing it ten minutes later.

To me it is sad when elders get this way. It's not their fault, it is a question of brain function in decline.

If there's anything to this, I suspect this sort of thing is the cause.

What Goshin said.

Bush is really old. Even if he thinks clearly which he probably doeasn't it probably was a pat and an attempt to be nice. If this even happened.

H.W. Bush has vascular parkinsonism, which is why he is in a wheel chair. I read up on it. It is often caused by a series of mini-strokes and is sometimes associated with dementia.

He's never been known to act this way tmk, so I figure there's the explanation.

Not asking for any money, yet somehow accused of it by sanman.

It's assault by any definition of the word. She didn't "feel" she was. She was.

Great. The fact that you laughed it off doesn't mean that it's not sexual assault.

Man I don't now how much more of a sexist blame-the-victim attitude would even be possible than what's already in this post.

Those ex-presidents can get frisky.

Oh but..but...but Trump!

Now leftwingers are shamelessly trying to put the stink on GHW Bush.

Fully agree! When my mother was still alive we would periodically visit one of her oldest friends and her husband. We are talking a 60+ year friendship. Mother would always tell me that ‘Uncle’ Andy had tried to ‘get fresh’ whenever she got close. Andy was well over 90 by then.
Same vein, when my in-laws were alive, the missus and I would visit them in Florida two or more times a years. They were well off and lived in a multi floor condo in Pelican Bay with full dining and a mini wellness center attatched. One evening we were on the way down to dinner. We were my wife and I, her sister and husband and the two in-laws. Just before getting on the elevator, pops rips off a thunderous fart! No one blinked, we got on the elevator and went to dinner like nothing had happened. Later I told the missus that I couldn’t wait to get to the age where I could break wind in public and not get called for it!
If we all live long enough we’ll all get embarrassing!

BBC | George Bush Senior's second apology after sex assault claims

Former US President George Bush Senior has issued a second apology to "anyone he has offended" after a second allegation of sexual assault emerged. Actress Jordana Grolnick told US website Deadspin Mr Bush groped her in 2016 after announcing his favourite magician was "David Cop-a-Feel". Another actress, Heather Lind, had already come forward to say the former president had "touched me from behind". Mr Bush's spokesman said it was supposed to put people "at ease". She told Deadspin: "He reached his right hand around to my behind, and as we smiled for the photo he asked the group, 'Do you want to know who my favourite magician is?' "As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, 'David Cop-a-Feel!'"

Most likely due to the debilitating effects of old age (93). He probably doesn't even remember these incidents.

This and your other reply.

My parents are long time friends of another couple. He had a stroke, but survived for several more years. After he semi-recovered and came home, his behavior towards other women became a bigger and bigger problem until the wife wouldn't have a female nurse, housekeeper or friend come over. He groped them and said inappropriate things. It was mortifying to her, to say the least, but she couldn't be angry. She knew he wasn't in his right mind. And so she stopped having other women in the house.

I knew him as a real gentleman and his wife was the love of his life. Their marriage, second for both, was a great love story. He would never have disrespected her like that. It was very sad.

It seems President Bush might be suffering from the same kind of problem. Maybe the family should be more mindful of it and think ahead at events to prevent women from being accosted, and his dignity as well. Like my mom's friend.
