Do you always hand-wave attempted murder? If it was, say, Antifa people who shot at someone, would your reaction be the same?

F'rinstance, if the people at the stop had just ignored them, and they'd fired a shot at them anyway, then clearly that would be a case where entirely innocent people were put under threat for no reason.
But that's not what happened, is it.
Somebody had to be Mr I'll-Show-Them and,
in response to words, hit the car with a baton or club. That's a provocation, and an escalation. That's a physical response to words, its an act of violence in response to verbage.
Yes, an act of violence. Yes, I know it was against the car, but it is still a threatening act implying the next blow might be on your head.
What is likely to follow is entirely predictable. I've seen it so many times it almost bores me. At least this time is stopped before someone was dead.
See, hitting someone's car with a baton is a crime. It is vandalism at a minimum. It could be construed as assault in some cases if it was part of a larger threat.
Does that mean it was okay for the idiots in the car to stop, get out and shoot? Hell no. That was also a crime. But that doesn't mean the car-beater gets a free pass. He does not. He did something stupid that escalated a situation which would probably have fizzled out otherwise.
So... stupid met stupid, and stupid actions followed. If I had a dollar for every time I've seen it, I could retire.
Very little sympathy for any of them.
