Obama’s Name to Replace Jefferson Davis’ on Mississippi School

None of us know what part of his history? Anybody who doesn't know he was a black man who became President has no business posting here.

I bolded the part I was asking about.

Try to keep up, if at all possible.

You said "brilliant academic career".

Nobody knows what he got as far as grades go. He never released his transcripts.

The fct that he graduated does not mean he had a "brilliant academic career".

Harvard J.D. magna cum laude, president of the Harvard Law Review, what would it take for you to say 'brilliant'?

The New York Times > Page Not Found

Bush didn't release his records either, they were leaked. McCain, well, bottom of his class in a military college,
Wait a minute. Do you think you need to see Obama's grades to decide whether he deserved his position and accolades?

edit- Sorry the link doesn't work, it was a NYT report in 1990 about the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. Will you take my word for it that he was?

I think they should have renamed the school after Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, Nat Turner or some other black historical figure who fought against slavery. I think people on the left and right would agree those are good choices.

Perfection is the enemy of good enough. It's a step up, to be sure.

He is absolutely a good role model... I was simply thinking that making it Harriet Tubman High School or Booker T Washington might be more appropriate. Nothing wrong with Obama at the end of the day and students are surely more able to relate to Obama that people from the past.

I agree. I think I misunderstood your point a bit. Lots of good options, and many millions of better choices than a dead confederate, racist traitor for a school of mostly black kids.

Of all the people they could have chosen and the pick the worst president in American history?

He's not even the worst in the 21st century. In fact he'd be the best of that bunch....

Do you hold Obama to a lower standard because he's half-black?

He's bi-racial.

They're going to name the School after the President that did more damage Politically to the Democratic party and brand in 8 years than the entire GOP establishment could do in 30 years....I see buyers remorse in their future

You mad snowflake?

Mr. Fenton is spot on.
The Demos lost because of this dude and "his dictatorship"-style ideology. What they stand for was never good for America.
Our Republicans are here to stay, like it or not.
(walks away)

lol.

The Dems lost because they ran the only candidate bad enough to lose to a moron like Trump. And even then she still received 3 million more votes than the fat orange ape.

Do you hold Obama to a lower standard because he's half-black?

No.

Do you hold Bush II and Trump to a lower standard because you're comparing those white men to a black guy?

100% agreed.... and all good.

This was voted on by the students, parents, staff.
This was a democratic process really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks...good for them in doing it the way they did.

He's bi-racial.

Are you American? Do you speak American? Brown skin, big lips, broad nose, in America that makes you black. Foolish to pretend otherwise.

Doubtful that they would accept Nat Turner, but I like it. Nat Turner, John Brown, Denmark Vessey. Now there's ya some freedom fighters. But hell, the white supremacists get all snowflakey when a black football player takes a knee during "The Anthem" over unarmed black folk beng gunned down in the streets with impunity by the power of the corporate state.

They're going to name the School after the President that did more damage Politically to the Democratic party and brand in 8 years than the entire GOP establishment lkrf could do in 30 years....I see buyers remorse in their future.

Really? He put in place a healthcare system that dems dreamed of since Truman. Brokered a treaty with the major powers of the world to try to tame Iran. Joined 190 countries in a climate change agreement. When Trump can sing Amazing Grace during a national tragedy, we can talk. You may not like the consequences, but he was a consequential president. The republicans admit it and honor his legacy every time they say "repeal and replace" instead of just "repeal." Like they accepted SS and Medicare, they have accepted the democrats' agenda. Trump and the GOP plan to make Obamacare better, the Iran treaty better, and put together a better climate agreement. Glad to have you aboard.

Then that should make you happy, stop being such a snowflake.

Well Fenton doesn't want anything even remotely approaching all of us having access to healthcare, he would rather we subsidize Wall Street and the "job creator" class alone.

Jefferson Davis should have been shot as a traitor after the Civil War...Nothing should have ever been named for that piece of ****

Changing the name of a school from someone who supported the institution of slavery to someone who fought against the institution of slavery is a very suitable name change. And it would be a big middle finger to all the racists who want to see the south rise again.

But hell, the white supremacists get all snowflakey when a black football player takes a knee during "The Anthem" over unarmed black folk beng gunned down in the streets with impunity by the power of the corporate state

White supremacists most likely don't give a rats ass how patriotic or unpatriotic black athletes are and most likely don't watch a sport filled with black athletes.

Patriotic Americans of any race do care that athletes are being anti-American douches.

Anything other than Barack Hussein Obama... the first black President of the United States.

Changing the name of a school that honored someone who supported the institution of slavery to someone who fought against slavery is befitting and kind of poetic justice.
