Sessions, Franken get heated at hearing: 'The ambassador from Russia is Russian'

Jeff Sessions told Democratic Sen. Al Franken Wednesday that he had no "improper discussions" with the Russians in a tense exchange during the attorney general's hearing with the Senate judiciary committee Wednesday.

"Not being able to recall what you discussed with him is very different than saying, 'I have not had communications with the Russians,'" Franken said. "The ambassador from Russia is Russian. And how your responses morphed from, 'I did not have communications with the Russians' to 'I did not discuss substantive, I did not discuss the political campaign' and then finally going to, 'I did not discuss interference in the election.' That, to me, is moving the goal posts every time. ... By the end, we're going to a 75-yard field goal."​

Sessions seems to be incapable of giving a straight answer
 
At one point, I thought Sessions was going to break down and cry, and hold his breath. "Well I'm not gettin' as much time as Senator Franken."
 
Sessions sounds like a teenager trying to convince his parents that he didn't lie because of the way they asked the question.

It's not up to him to decide what improper, the dainty little thing, it's up to the committee.

Asked about the concerns at Wednesday’s hearing, Sessions told Grassley the Justice Department will take “appropriate” actions.


“I hear your concerns and they will be reviewed,” Sessions said, without responding directly to a question from Grassley on whether the Justice Department has also probed whether the Russians "compromised" the Obama administration to "smooth the way" for the deal.

“It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to comment on any ongoing investigation,” Sessions said.
 
Session's performance at the hearing was truly despicable.

The DOJ needs to function in a manner that is independent from partisan politics. It needs to serve the constitution and the rule of law.

Sessions demonstrated unlawful loyalty to "executive privilege" that was never invoked. He can be prosecuted for both contempt and perjury.

Eric Holder named a American journalist as a criminal co-conspirator under the 1922 espionage act so the DOJ could hack into his E-mails and phone records, Holder subpoenaing the phone records of 20 AP reporters and who can forget the tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton and Lorretta Lynch ?

Without even contesting the accuracy of your claims, the "he did it first" defense didn't work in pre-school, so what makes you think it's legitimate now?

I don't think i've ever seen an AG be so bold so as to tell congress that he needs to keep them in the dark to protect the president.

Janet Reno subjected President Clinton to the rule of law, while this feckless coward is running interference for the executive branch to explicitly and intentionally subvert checks and balances.
