Former President Barack Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations has testified that others made so-called unmasking requests in her name, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy said Tuesday.

“Her testimony is they may be under my name, but I did not make those requests,” Gowdy said of former Ambassador Samantha Power during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on "Special Report with Bret Baier."

Its one thing for a member of Obama's National security team to request the unmasking of American citizens caught up upstream searches, but for someone else to use Samantha Powers security clearances hundreds of times to disclose classified information ? Yes it is a big deal whether she personally requested the unmasking of hundreds of Americans or if someone was using her name to do so. The U.N. Ambassador is part of the President's cabinet. So just for security, one would have to go further up to the WH itself to accomplish such a thing. Was it senior adviser Valerie Jarrett or Susan Rice or others? To do such a thing would have to be initiated in the White House.

Why would someone need to use Power's security clearances and name to make hundreds of legitimate unmasking request ? Honestly, think before you post. The fact that she testified that all these request were made by someone else in her name using her security clearances pretty much debunks ANY justification the Lefts thrown out since the unmaskings were made public

Its a good thing Hillary lost, because had she won this would have been buried. But she didn't, and now we have Sessions as our AG, which means we'll no doubt be learning more about this

The UN Ambassador is not a member of the Cabinet. I would be looking at immediate subordinates of the Ambassador as such authority is often delegated down the chain.

That depends on the administration.US ambassador to the U.N. not always a cabinet level position.

The post being a cabinet-level position is on the prerogative of the President, with President Eisenhower first elevating it in 1953 and It was again a cabinet level during Ford administration till present Trump administration except in Bush senior and Bush administrations where it was not a cabinet-level position.

The post goes through confirmation by the Senate like all other Ambassador posts.

The post being a cabinet level position gives the Ambassador direct access to the President and the White House without going through the channels of the state department, of which the ambassador belongs.

The state department which is responsible for all diplomatic missions and international relations for the United States is headed by the Secretary of State who is also the highest ranking US cabinet member.

Whereas the UN ambassador heads a diplomatic mission ( United States Mission to the United Nations) and being a cabinet level post gives the ambassador some independence from the State department and the Secretary of State.

Actually there's been a update ! Susan Powers over 260 unmasking request were not made by her, or so she testified.

Someone, used her name and security clearance to make those request, and thats not only illegal, but it throws a wrench into the whole " it was done for legitmate National security reasons " excuse we've been hearing since this story broke.

Such requests explain why the unmasking is necessary and that explanation is conveyed back to the agency that collected the information. And if the U.S. person's identity is revealed, that identity is provided only to the person who properly requested it, not to a broader audience. This process is subject to oversight and reporting, and in the interest of transparency, my former office publishes a report on the statistics of how many U.S. persons' identities are unmasked based on collection that occurred under section 702 of the FISA Amendment Act, which I'll speak to in a moment. First of all, Power supposedly unmasked HUNDREDS of names. Now we find out it wasn't her who did the unmasking. That means SOMEONE broke the law.

Second, if those unmasked intel reports are included in the PDB, THAT report is available to dozens of...maybe over a hundred...people, since Obama changed the access rules.

Hard to imagine that it was anything else but. Obama was apparently quite fond of using all the national intelligence services and resources on just about everyone, especially political enemies and political opponents, the stuff that dictators typically do.
